Write-to-Adopt Dragons

Nexus dragons are the descendants of various open-species dragons that have had clutches and cultures together since at least 2003. They have their roots in Play-by-email Dragonriders of Pern RP's and Yahoo Groups, but many artists and writers have made and bred different species on different platforms since. Come join us by adopting, writing, drawing art for and breeding dragons!

Rules

  1. Participate in good faith. Do not sell any dragons you adopt from dray. If you breed your dragon with another and draw offspring, you may trade, gift or sell those offspring. Be sure to have permission from the owner of the other parent if its design is not yours.
  2. Do not write hate-speech, and please be respectful of sensitive topics such as mental health and bad upbringing back-stories. Flag any NSFW writing in a way that protects our under-18 folks.
  3. Read up on the current clutch info before submitting entries. Some clutches are FCFS, others are competitions for best writing.
  4. You can auto-buy dragons for the amount listed below each, but this is considered a courtesy if you support my work! I prefer to see writing.
    1. Donations must go through my Ko-fi account: 5cbed8a4ae2b88347c06c923_BuyMeACoffee_bl
  5. Remember, you rock! Do your best, have fun, and use your other OC's if it suits you. I want to see your best effort.
    1. Give me a holler if you continue writing more for your dragons. Every 500 words is worth one Silver Shell Shard, and these can be used to auto-buy future dragons.

Current Clutch Info

These dragons require a humanoid to bond their minds with in order to survive. At some point after they matured, their humans were killed, and powerful necromancers intervened on their behalf, scooping them from between space and preserving their bodies while they searched for emergency riders to repair their minds. Because of this, a few huge dragons sporting grim bones and scaley hood decorations have gone out into the universe to swoop up and kidnap likely candidates. When you write your entry to adopt, include your character's reaction to being snatched up by a large (13' tall) dragon and deposited in front of a preserved creature meant to be their new bond. Are they cut out for this? Can they ever go back to their new life with a draconic partner?

  • You can write to adopt or pay, and the wta word count is preferred but not a hard minimum for this clutch.
  • Entries will be FCFS
  • For every 500 words you write, you'll get 1 Silver Shell Shard, which you can use for later clutches (they get prettier and more complex, and may cost more!)
  • Leave entries as comments to this thread, and indicate which dragon you're applying for (either name or #.)

The Dragons

DRAGON #1

Name: Yryakserot
Worth: 1 Silver Shell Shard (500 Words or $1 USD)
About: Abandoned by her partner when she refused to do manual labour, she has a chip on her shoulder about humans.

14625047_auy46SjW2kUefYb.gif

DRAGON #2

Name: Scilserth
Worth: 1 Silver Shell Shard (500 Words or $1 USD)
About: His rider and he tried to fly without proper harnesses while trying some incredibly dangerous stunts. His rider fell, and Scilserth is feeling incredibly guilty about it.
Special Note: Scilserth has a special ability not noted on his page. He can naturally sniff out good candidates--humans who have a natural tendency to bond well with dragons, such as those with great empathy or even telepathic powers.

14624922_EdugKMA11OIhIn5.gif

DRAGON #3

Name: Roinserto
Worth: 1 Silver Shell Shard (500 Words or $1 USD)
About: Roinserto's partner died in active duty in a war on his human's world. Roinserto was badly injured and has been repaired during his stasis, but he'll have a lot of mental and physical recovery to do when he gets a new bond.

DRAGON SPECIAL A

Name: Iselkoso
Worth: 2 Silver Shell Shard (1000 Words or $2 USD)
About: Iselkoso's partner was a cruel lord who subjugated other humans using Iselkoso's superior size and firebreath to evil effect. Eventually Iselkoso rebelled, killing his partner and expecting to sacrifice himself in the process. He'll be very wary of humans once he bonds again.
Special Note: Among his species, Iselkoso is a rare shade of black, special amongst the usual ranks. Most dragons with Pernese or otherwise 'old world' blood will defer to his power of personality.

14625439_YyGHoIxpjYhJp4h.gif

DRAGON SPECIAL B

Name: Silokoth
Worth: 3 Silver Shell Shard (1500 Words or $3 USD)
About: Just as she reached maturity, Silokoth's partner accidentally impressed a second dragoness hatchling. Her species is terribly jealous about double-impressions and when Silokoth went to strike down the other dragonet, she was held back by the current clutch's mother. In all the fuss her human was grievously injured, and later died. Silokoth may be especially possessive of whatever human manages to break through her profound force of personality.
Special Note: Among her species, Silokoth is a 'queen', a rare egg-laying and brooding dragoness who has the word of law amongst all those who defer to her. She's ideal for anyone looking to start a Weyr or other dragon hatchery, as she can breed a number of dragons, including the standard green, blue, brown, bronze and gold, as well as the special red, white, purple, black and starry (in order of least to most rare.) She also has some hidden traits for rainbow and bicolour patterns.

DRAGON SPECIAL C

Name: Siassoth
Worth: 5 Silver Shell Shard (2500 Words, or $5 USD)
About: Siassoth was absolutely ruthless when bonded to her human. She had an iron grip on the dragons around her and dictated whatever she wanted. This caused the local villages to rise up. Her human was held hostage but, thinking herself invincible, Siassoth allowed her human to be killed. She will need an incredibly strong force of will to keep her in check after the trauma of falling from grace.
Special Note: Among her species, Siassoth is a 'queen', a rare egg-laying and brooding  dragoness who has the word of law amongst all those who defer to her.  She's ideal for anyone looking to start a Weyr or other dragon hatchery,  as she can breed a number of dragons, including the standard green,  blue, brown, bronze and gold, as well as the special red, white, purple,  black and starry (in order of least to most rare.) Price Conversions

1 Silver Shell Shard = 500 words of "write to adopt" story

1 Silver Shell Shard = $1 USD

Payments for batches of Shell Shards can be made via ko-fi: 5cbed8a4ae2b88347c06c923_BuyMeACoffee_bl

Dragon Prices

Prices for each dragon will range fairly significantly in complexity of the design and # of offspring within a clutch (eg: How many times I use a given template.)

Dragons will range from about $1 (1 silver shell shard or 500 words) to about $40 (40 silver shell shards, or 20K words.)

You can use shell shards earned from previous WTA entries, even if you didn't win, towards future dragons. You may even earn shell shards for writing more chapters involving your dragon, but this is on a case-by-case basis. TL;DR: The more you write, the less you pay. Time to get creative!

Closes in a couple of days; there's still space for entries. :D

ImASillyGorl

Just a question, I read the FAQ and I just wanna know if there's anything more to them, they just sound interesting and I just wondered if there's any other info that you never explained there.

dray

Heya, ImASillyGorl -- Hmm, for the purposes of adopting, I'm not sure if there's more 'need to know', but for flavour-text, they're the remainders of a litter born to a wanderer (Hiirin Kaal) who happened upon the gnarled mountain peek of the Bower and was half-charmed and half properly arranged a contract for kids with their father, Daenet. The litter grew up with a pretty matter-of-fact cubhood (their mom stuck around for long enough to wean them and their dad took over thereafter.) Most of their siblings decided to GTFO from the lava-fields of their dad's home community immediately, but these three came-back in their adulthood and are now looking to travel again. They each have little personality traits for further flavour text, if wanted.

-You can add them to any world you like, essentially. The original Nexus community had a strong OOC working agreement that folks could adopt one another's dragons, bring them back to their own worlds, and write stories about them or RP with them. Those days might be gone (or are they??) but I'm hoping to add flavour-text back into WTA adoptions. I have a few more clutches I'll run similarly to this and then I'll try some other avenues if folks are really not liking it.

-If you have any dragon clutch style adoptions (WTA or non-$$ oriented) or know of them, I wanna hear about them! Where my people at?

ImASillyGorl

Nice, because normally I like using information to help me write (like if an animal liked sweet things, I'd make an oc of that animal like something sweet like candy or sugar) not because I need the help but I just kinda like doing things like that. Thanks for the info and if I have time I'll write for one later!

dray

Totally dug your story and Daesyt should be coming your way. Anyone else up for Niidun (a relatively rare silver dragon mutt) or Daehay with this gold->crimson fade and grey varnish?

Watch the first post space! Today's the deadline for this tiny clutch, but there are quite a few others from different clutches on the way. Once I've re-homed a few more clutches I'll get back to the newer, fancier varieties.

ImASillyGorl I'm also going to set up a token system "silver shell shards" -- since you wrote to adopt I'll note that you have an extra. Once I've given a few clutches out I'll set up a proper "you can WTA, or use silver shell shards... and either you can WTA to get a silver shell shard, or you can pay for 'em. So, just a token of thanks for participating. :)

New clutch is listed in the rules. Please enter by June 26th if you want to take one home.

Here's my entry!

Writing For: Siassoth/DRAGON SPEICAL C

Word Count: 2516 - 2522

Extra Info: Normally I leave all my WTA Entries as a "To Be Continued" (Since the WTA Entries can be major spoilers to some stories I'll be writing) so yeah, if you want me to have a longer WTA Entry I can do that, but since it's already like over 2000 words and fills up nearly half of this page I'll just leave it there. Also I see that not many people are entering and just asking for them, so try to advertise your WTA's on the Freebie Bin or the WTA and Freebie Request Plaza (I mean, this should really be more popular it's really fun).

The character they will be bonding with this time will be a character that actually has the longest bio out of all my characters, and the one that was mentioned last time, Hope. Now the main idea for this is that the story is meant to be a little repetitive, as Hope is a big pushover (like how I pictured Siassoth's old partner to be) and since Siassoth left her old owner behind and she turned out just fine, all she has to do is make sure Hope doesn't die and she'll just be fine. After all, they are all like objects or toys to her, and to her, her old owner and Hope are the same type of toy. But when things turn out not like she had expected (as Hope ends up becoming less of a pushover) she gets a little annoyed. Things end up going for an even worse turn... what is it? Be prepared to find out...

Siassoth (or SASSoth as some call her behind her back) is not only bossy and  terriffying to those around her,  but she is very manipulative as well, however she never really needs to be since most are afraid of her and will do whatever she says anyways (or in her personality section in her bio... or else). You might be wondering what "or else" means... Well she is much darker and scarier than just a normal bossy, mean queen... She has killed other dragon's humanoid bonds before, which is why many people are afraid of her. Even dragons that never needed a human partner do not dare to cross her path, for they will face her mighty wrath. She, being a queen, will have no trouble beating or hurting them without any consequences. Some wonder how she got a humanoid bond in the first place, it all started when they needed a bond quick, just like now, they found someone who could be manipulated very easily. She treated them like a slave, while still making them love her,  this went on and on until her dictatorship went too far and she started to hurt people... to kill people... the village was tired of this and rose up against her and her owner. They had many of their citizens and dragons killed just because of her and her owner (who never did anything but felt bad about it, the village thought they participated in the crime and decided to kill them too). The human and her were trapped in a prison cell waiting for execution. Then Siassoth saw an escape, but she needed a distraction for her to get there. So she used her fire magic to melt the bars. They ran off into the open wasteland and found the whole village chasing them, as according to plan. She then pushed her owner into the angry mob. The furious village leader shouted and threatened to kill her bonding mate.

"If you don't surrender immediately, your owner will be killed... Surrender now, or suffer."
The village believed that no dragon would ever leave their partner behind, especially since they need one to survive, but yet they were wrong... And she just walked off yawning and left her owner behind... The village shot her bonding mate and she ended up feeling weak... And the down left her to die. She thought she was invincible, it is ironic, is it not? She killed the partners of so many dragons, it's only fair if she dies too she thinks. But yet a mysterious figure creeps out from the shadows and performs a ritual to bring her owner back to life, only now they are undead... And no longer serving Siassoth anymore... This meant that (since this was a hot and humid place with alot of bacteria (I mean the story is kind of a drag-pocalypse or just dragon apocalypse where dragons take over) the body would decompose in just a few weeks. Siassoth really had to find a new owner and fast too, if she didn't she'd die, it's almost like she has a second chance to live now.

She went and searched for a bonding partner for her to "connect" herself with, she searched far and wide, not many humans were alive after other dragons that weren't Nexus Dragons ended up killing alot of them, it doesn't help that her old owner's body can decompose in a few weeks so THATS FUN! She saw many groups, but alot of them never knew what Nexus Dragons were (Since my story was made by a glitch that happened that caused dragons from a game to appear in the real world and they were mostly confused about the concept of Nexus Dragons, as they are pretty rare in the world since humans are dying out and therefore they do too). Then she finally saw a group that had a Nexus Dragon, known as Daesyt Kaal) she didn't just go in and get a partner though, she waited to see who'd be the easiest for her to manipulate, the one that would fit her criteria the best, the greatest pushover or the nicest one (since they would be easier and faster to partner with). One day, while Hope was sleeping at night in her little home, her dragons were spending time with the other members of the group. This was Siassoth's perfect chance, she'd kidnap Hope, staging it to look like she saved Hope from a flaring blaze by burning Hope's house down and wake her up as she's getting out, creating the correct amount of emotional attachment for bonding. This was a great plan.

She followed the framework that Siassoth designed for Hope to feel just the right amount of bond towards Siassoth for their minds to join up, connect with eachother and become dragon riders. She carried out her plan, she kidnapped Hope and knocked her out cold, breathing a massive fireball onto her base, then bring her out of the burning house as soon as the house started smoking, then waking her up, and since Hope had great experience with animals and befriends them 90% of the time (also the fact that she is still quite young and naive, only being fourteen years old at this time in the story, but she's turning 15) she will clearly understand that Siassoth was dragging her out of the burning building, not even considering the fact that Siassoth coud have started the fire. The best part was that no one could say that Siassoth DID NOT save her since, as we said, her house was far from her group's houses... Except for one person... or dragon... Daesyt Kaal... Daesyt saw the whole thing with his two eyes... He knows this dragon... but from where..?-- Whatever! It did not matter to Daesyt, all he knew was that this dragon was dangerous and that she should be feared.

He spent the next few weeks spying on this dragon, who was she? Why was she doing this? Where does he know her from? He just got a very bad feeling about her, Siassoth wasn't meant to be here... They needed to leave... NOW before Siassoth caused anymore trouble. Daesyt attacked Siassoth, she cannot stay here any longer he thought. But yet, the others never saw that behind those shiny, beautiful, glistening scales lied a hideous monster who only cared about herself. Nobody knew why he did it, but Michael could tell something was wrong. Michael went to where Daesyt always goes, but they were never found. They looked everywhere, but yet they were missing and nobody knew where they went. Meanwhile, Siassoth slowly but surely became meaner and meaner, it was time their true colors were finally revealed. It was all part of the plan, it wasn't like it was luck or something, just part of a plan. The other dragons started to become more self conscious, they started to become more obedient and jittery. They were scared, they were afraid. Once again, Siassoth finally had her control, she loved it, the feeling of power as the dragons bowed before her begging for mercy. She became more evil than she was originally, and she could never be happier. She had dragons that would do anything for her, she had a human bonding with her that would do anything to save her, everybody "loved" her. Yet this perfect life would soon end, it became different, Hope started to notice her dragons become sadder and angrier.

She tried to help them but it was no use, their queen was watching them from around every corner and almost all of them developed extreme anxiety, except for Daesyt, who is still missing. The dragons had their sleepless nights, Hope was upset at this, she tried and tried and tried, nothing ever worked, she ended up becoming sadder aswell. She started to see that Siassoth was the only one happy and that these dragons only became like this when Siassoth came. She watched Siassoth abuse her dragons... just like how her bullies abused her... She was FURIOUS how could this dragon do this to her? She trusted this dragon with her heart and soul, they became dragon riders together! Why would Siassoth do this! She took Siassoth out of her newly-built home (which she now knows that Siassoth burnt down her old one) and threw her out... This was one of the first times she has been stood up against, the only time she ever felt like this besides now was when she thought she was invincible but she really was not. What was this stupid human doing? She wondered. This was not part of the plan, this was unexpected, this was different. Were not all of the kind humans the same type of toy? No not even a kind human! This human threw me out after I... Oh... She felt a little bad then, for one of the first times, but whatever- as long as she was still "bonded" to her human, she was fine... But is it really a bond if you hate eachother? Siassoth started to feel weak again, she fell on her knees and everything hurt... She was alive, but everything started to hurt. This was her karma, this left her wounded and hurt, but unable to die (by not having a bond, that is) this wasn't like the necromancer situatiom, it was worse.

Every step they took felt like sharp needles through her heart both physically... and emotionally. She fell over and every breath she took felt like she was breathing in toxic waste. She did not want to live like this anymore, it hurt so badly. She stumbled over on the cold, hard, rocky land. Nothing could help her now... she was alone... this was it... this was her death... tears rolled down from her eyes and she accepted her fate. Suddenly, Daesyt Kaal comes over there and sees her wounded on the ground. He unexpectedly brings her into his cave where he was living for the past few months. She laid next to him near the little fire he made while he went to get some medicine and materials to help her wounds. Siassoth felt intimidated by him, he knew something. He went over and gave her some bandages and healing powders.
"I know who you are." He said in a monotone dragon rawr.
"Yes, the most beautiful creature on this terrible planet." She replied, she doesn't look very thankful, even when he saved her life.
"Ah, we have Little Miss Attitude over here. I think you've met her before." He growled, clearly annoyed
He sits there and eats his food, while Siassoth just lies there.
"You know, your partner has been worried about you." She says
"... I know that ..." He says in a quiet voice
"Then why did you leave?" She asked
"You should not be here, you were meant to die- no offense, but you were."
"What! Why? Oh I get it! It's because I'm such a terrible person is that right? Yeah! I've sort of realised that by now!" She shouted
"No, no it is not that... Well okay, maybe it is a little...- But that's not the point! You were not meant to survive, your old partner died but was brought back from the dead because of some necromancer." He explained
She snapped...
"How did you know that!" She shouted
"I know you, I lived around that village... And that's also where I bonded with my partner. After you came, they made a law that all dragons... Must be killed."
"Oh... That's..." She could not think of a reply
"I know but eh, you've done worse."
"... Yeah ... I have ..."
They both looked at the beautiful sunset, night will begin soon. They were out where no dragons were, so the stars would shine brightly tonight (Because dragons normally create smoke, it blocks the sky from ever shining). It was even more special tonight since it was a meteor shower. They watched it together and fell asleep. It turned to morning and as they woke up, they looked up at the beautiful, yellow sun.
"Wake up!" Daesyt shouted
"Huh? Oh what now?" she said, half asleep
"We should get back home." He replied
"Wait... what do you mean 'we'?"
"You're part of our group too, you should not just stay here..."
"But why? You have seen me, I treated them terribly and there's no way my partner would take care of me now."
"You won't survive like this, if you can't even walk, how do you expect to hunt for food? Or even move for that matter! I might not be there. What if a crazy dragon hunter wanted to kill you! You can't run..."
"... Dragon Hunter..." Those words triggered the memory of her old friend's death, Siassoth left them behind...
"Then I deserve it... As you said, I'm meant to be dead and also that I just left my old bonding mate to die from them... I know I should not have done that, but I know that if a dragon hunter were to try and kill me...
I should pay for my actions..."
"No! Your past does not indicate who you are now, tell me, would you have left them behind now?"
"Of course not... I'd never again!"
"Then?"
"But this still doesn't excuse me for leaving them, or even killing other dragons and their partners!"
"Nowadays, killing isn't as bad as it was before, food is scarce, water has dried, blood has been spilled. Everyone has killed at some point and those who haven't have died. I know it might be hard, but you must pull through, we can get through this. I know that you haven't killed for good reasons and you can never bring them back, however you have changed, and I believe you'd never do it again. You get me?"
"Yes. Thank you for being there for me..."
"No problem. Lets go."
Siassoth and Daesyt go back home, Siassoth wasn't sure why Daesyt left in the first place, but never questioned it. She went back home where she saw Hope sitting on the ground...

"Siassoth..?"

That was a fun read ImASillyGorl thanks for the tips as well. :D I've added to your shell-shard count and if your entry wins (at this point 'when' I think, though in future maybe there will be competition :o ) I'll pass her over on the 26th.

Yay, thanks for entering! I really enjoy reading people's creative writing. You're taking this all in a direction I didn't expect but I'm looking forward to reading more, if you decide to expand on it. Any writing that features any of the dragons you've adopted for me will get additional shell shards for the portions of the story they're in, as well, so let me know!

Renatus Melomar

Hello Dray! I am trying for Roinserto. Please see my page for my entry.

(ooc: I hope I am doing this IC posting right. Haven't tried it before. If you would like the story copy-pasted to this post, let me know! Thanks!)

ImASillyGorl

dray I made the overall story idea with my friend a while ago, but after I lost contact with them I stopped doing it. Also the fact that the thing we wrote on paper has vanished, This WTA actually gave me motivation to rewrite it! I thought oh cool, dragons, hey I remember when I made a story about dragons- Oh some need humanoid bonds too? Woah, this is actually perfect, you know what? Lets write it.

I will expand on this soon enough, I write fast so it should be easy, I'm afraid since we got kind of far along in the story the dragons might not appear until chapter 4-6, but I literally wrote a chapter now so it shouldn't be very long and I've already written the lore! I have the first chapter in my literatures now! Everytime I write a WTA I can guarantee a new chapter.

As for the dragons themselves, I cannot give you a definite answer on whether or not they'd have a happy ending or how it would end in general (unless you ask however it might spoil stuff), but I will expand on their stories and they will have their endings revealed.

dray

Melomar I've been playing around with whether entries should be in this thread or in character profiles. I think either can work, so long as I get notified in some way. (It's always nice to bump the thread to show activity, but I'm not overly worried about that! :B) I have always loved your puns and tongue-in-cheek writing style. It's good to have connected again!

ImASillyGorl I love it when inspiration strikes! No worries about spoilers and ends; I'm happy to see where it goes, in time. Congrats on getting so much more done... that sounds like a lot got accomplished.

Melomar

If you do decide you prefer them posted up here, I will definitely get the stories moved over but kept in both places. Incidentally, I found my old site and am putting it up (again). I will be putting up Bower dragons as a matter of fact, and will get those links messaged to you (is it PM or DM?). Oh! Last thing. I wanted to clarify something. In the rules it says one dragon per person. Is that "you may only try for one dragon," or "you may only win one dragon," (or both of course)? I know, I am really glad we have connected again! I can really appreciate your style as well! And, I had forgotten how much fun this is.

Kivuli Melomar

I am here to bond with Silokoth, or to befriend Iselkoso. If that is not allowable then I will wait until another clutch comes. Thank you.

dray

This clutch is now closed! I'm preppring for a camping trip so my online activities will be a bit sporadic, but I'll do the moving and transferring ASAP.

Thank you!
