Monuments and sight-seeing

Hey you! Got a minute? Come along and I'll show you a thing or two about our beautiful town.

Monuments

I wouldn't say we're overly religious here in Anthurium, but that doesn't mean we fail to give respect to the regional deities. Did you know that my parents encountered some of the deities when they were younger? I know right? It's weird to think of them as young quirlicorns!

Here, we mostly celebrate the deity Haukea. It should come to no surprise seeing that the town has been built in her icy region. Although, I suspect I'm the one who looks up to her the most. Where was I going with this? Oh right. Head to the town square and you'll find a life-size marble statue of Haukea. Notice anything? That smaller quirlicorn is actually me! You'd think my siblings would be jealous, but they just decided that it made the statue uglier. I wouldn't know. They don't have a statue of themselves with a deity.

Not quite satisfied with the view? You may want to check out the Shrine of a Better Tomorrow. Sounds fancy, right? Well, the buidling certainly is beautiful, but in reality, it's more or less a glorified library where you'll be sushed if you do so much as to breath. I can't blame it's users though; it's meant to be a silent place where quirlicorns can use their telepathy to reach out to their loved ones. There's also a seperate room for those who wish mediumship, but we don't normally advertise it in the open since not everyone sees the use of dark magic with a good eye. Overall, it's a comfy place with plenty of seating areas and reading material. Foals are encouraged to play outside while their parents use the establishement.

If you get especially bored (somehow), you can still go and check out the greenhouses near the town center. The farmers are unbelievebly proud of their work and will gladly show you their 'indoor gardens'. I can't really blame them: greens are hard to come by in the region and they're making a big contribution towards feeding the town. I think I've overheard my mother say she exclusively used their potatoes for her soup, and that's why it tasted so good. I tried asking my father about it, but he's sworn to secrecy. I'm hoping to conduct an experiment sometime next week by cooking two soups: one with imported potatoes and one with locally grown potatoes. (Edit: it's next week and I've successfully conducted the experiment. I tasted no difference and, when I confronted them about it, my parents refused to tell me what Mommy actually used to make the soup good!!!) So anyways- There's another greenhouse on the other side of town that belongs to a florist. She will ask you about the plants you bought from her if she meets you on the streets, and she will berate you if you aren't tending to them properly. Just sayin'.

Hmmm, let's see, what else? I'll tell you what: come by some other time and I'll tell you more about this place next time we meet!

Natural formations

The bestest thing about the Icy region is the snow! There's a yearly Ice Sculpting Festival in winter as well as a Snowquirl Contest in spring. If you're lucky and happen to come by during those seasons, you'll get to admire the beautiful works created by the townsfolk and visitors. If you're unlucky, you'll show up just in time for a townwide snowball fight and fall victim to one of my mom's formidable. slingshot toss. The town is wedged between two rivers which, in my experience, make excellent natural skating rings at all times except summer. Otherwise, they make pretty good swimming pools if you're brave enough.

Other than that, there's not much to see out of town. There's a lot of snow if that's something you're interested in. There are some trees around as well. The bunch is more akin to a savannah than a forest, though. There's no way you'll be getting lost in there. I definitely don't recommend you wandering out alone or without gear. If you absolutely need to go out there, call me! I know the way to any major settlement in the region, and I'm always up for a hike. If I'm even in town to begin with, that is! You've probably noticed by now that Anthurium isn't a very exciting place to be in (permenantly), so I like to run around and explore every inch of the region.

Just a tip, if you ever need to find me; if Haukea is there, chances are I'm probably nearby as well! I spend a lot of my time looking for her- I have my reasons! I'm not a stalker *huffs*.

Swing by later and I could show you what lies beyond the town. In the meantime, have a great day!
