JMD Revamp Guide

Welcome to the official JMD Revamp Guide!
JMDs have three revamp tiers. This allows a range of staff inclusion to ensure speed and accuracy with revamps.
Each tier tab is a dropdown! Within those, each edit category is a dropdown as well. Not sure how to handle medium marking revamps? Click that category to read the info.

Minor Medium Overhaul

Minor Revamps
Minor revamps include simple color/marking adjustments, trait additions/removals, trait additions up to UC, and trait reworks.
Minor revamps can be directly submitted to the revamp guide for approval. It is recommended to go to staff if you are unsure!

Minor revamps allow for a small degree of color changes, mainly under the idea of tinting the existing colors. EX: You could not turn an all pink JMD into a royal purple, but you could make the pink cooler-toned and possibly even lavender (depending on the specific design). For existing gradients, you are able to alter them and possibly even remove certain colors. As long as the overall palette feels similar to the original (keeping the aim of tinting rather than full changes), it should be acceptable.

Marking changes at this revamp tier are generally simple alterations. You can change the shaping of markings or increase/reduce complexity to a degree, but for the most part, they should share similar levels of complexity, direction, and overall shape flow. EX: You cannot add swirls to stripes, but you could make stripes more curvy.

Minor revamps allow for trait alterations, and trait additions/removals up to the Uncommon rarity. That means any traits that are Common-Uncommon are perfectly fine to add at this revamp tier! If you just want to swap some traits around, add free/common traits, or restyle existing traits, that is all allowed. Keep in mind that more drastic trait changes or higher rarities would be consider Medium tier changes.

Medium Revamps
Medium revamps include trait additions/removals/swaps, moderate color/marking changes (still recognizable; cannot completely change patterns and hues), and trait reworks.
It is recommended to DM staff for consultation before submitting for approval. You may be asked to make adjustments to remain within limits.

Medium revamps allow a fair amount of color alterations, however generally speaking: shade values should be similar, and complete color deviation is not permitted. As shown in the example: colors can be given new hues and gradients can be changed, so long as it is a reasonable alteration. The rainbow becomes more sunset-oriented, and the greys gain a purple hue. You would not, however, be able to take a completely pink JMD and turn them all green. Purple, red, or desaturated would be more reasonable hue-shifts for a pink JMD's revamp.

Medium revamps allow for more range in marking changes, but there must be some sort of visual familiarity to the original. The example above in particular shows markings that keep the same general flow, direction, and vague layering. You would not be able to completely change the markings, EX: changing horizontal stripes into random leopard spots.

Medium revamps allow for most trait alterations. You can add or remove traits, or alter existing traits. This includes moving a trait rarity from one section to another! EX: Rare fluffy ears are reduced to standard ears, but the rare trait can be applied to the body for rare fur.

Overhaul Revamps
Overhaul revamps include trait additions/removals/swaps, major color/marking changes (still recognizable; cannot completely change patterns and hues), and trait reworks.
There must be some recognizable elements to the original to prevent these being used as custom slots.

Overhaul revamps require use of an Renewal Statue and communication with ElementStar to ensure standards are followed. This allows for a JMD to be redesigned almost entirely.
