PAYPAL E-MAILS:

To be updated as they either dump PayPal accounts and make new ones or more are found. Beware if any new adopt seller sends an invoice from any of the following PayPal addresses or asks to be paid into any of the following PayPal addresses. Due to the sheer number of scam accounts made and potentially more to be made, keeping track of them through DA username is not feasible nor practical. A slightly more persistent username will be the PayPal addresses used to deposit money. If you have paid out to any of these addresses and been scammed as a result, report it directly to PayPal as having breached their TOS by demanding friends and family payment for a business transaction. Hopefully with this information in the open, even new accounts created on DA to further scam will find it difficult.

WHAT:

Selling stolen characters/art across multiple DA accounts. New accounts will be added to the list as they crop up. Please be aware of who you're buying from these days! If it seems too good to be true, it almost always is! I also cannot stress enough the importance of paying ONLY THROUGH GOODS AND SERVICES. There is never any reason--literally never--for an artist to request payment through friends and family if they're providing art in any form.

Apparently a prolific scammer. Targets lesser-known Japanese artists through their unwatermarked art on Twitter. List of accounts and affected artists will be updated as more are unearthed. Thanks to pax and Mercer for helping.

DETAILS:

Just gonna copy and paste my post in the general PSA thread. Making this its own individual thread for anyone careful enough to go through this PSA section for usernames before buying. Fairly messy since I wasn't directly affected and I might come back later to organize this if it actually becomes a bigger problem, but I continue to see people purchase from the scam accounts so hopefully this helps stem that flow of ill-gotten cash.

Side note: this one’s maybe one notch above the average scammer in that they heavily watermark the art they steal so reverse image searches don’t work. They also steal from lesser known Japanese twitter accounts, making finding the original artist more difficult.

For example, the Fluxionz account stole art from https://twitter.com/oruzitte (https://gyazo.com/4b9e02f2fca75c23225192580afd3fde and https://gyazo.com/2e4c19b822602f196af46df64f64f1bf, compared with https://www.deviantart.com/fluxionz/art/ADOPT-10-CLOSED-804553028)

Out of curiosity, I asked them for a .psd screenshot of an adopt so I could see if there was any legitimate workflow, and what they gave me was a screenshot where they had cut out certain sections of the original image and layered them into folders to mimic the actual workflow. (https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/577997834675290113/578000625405526016/unknown.png) So somewhat trickier than the standard fare scammer and quite invested in wasting time and energy pretending to be an artist rather than just learning how to art.

For anyone reading this and was scammed, if you sent the payment through goods and services, I recommend charging back as this scammer has a series of accounts doing the same thing and these are just the ones people have found. Make sure to escalate your PayPal dispute to a claim or the case will close against you and you will lose money to the scammer.

They steal a lot from https://twitter.com/oruzitte, https://twitter.com/umeame_kikaku, and https://twitter.com/kikakubonko among many others that people haven't found yet.

If anyone can speak Japanese and inform these artists (and possibly advise them to add heavier watermarks to their works), it'd be much appreciated.

They had a TH account briefly. (https://www.deviantart.com/flakia/art/Adoptable-02-CLOSED-802871186 notes their TH account as 'Flakia') and https://toyhou.se/flakia (account has been closed).

Glad to have you here as well! Your journals have been very helpful!

That's an interesting account they got there. The listed username is AudiomachineForLife and, while it is indeed disabled, you can still google their username and pull up individual deviations.

It's pretty much all image macro memes. Like good god that's a lot of image macros.

If that is actually them, it seems like the most genuine account they've owned. I dunno man, it'd be nice to find out who this guy is.

Quick edit: This also popped up and it's uh... a lot. I'll just leave it here. https://atrociousdeviants.miraheze.org/wiki/AudiomachineForLife Like jesus did they really just identify themselves? Who knows if it's actually them, but man they seem very into internet drama so I'm not at all surprised by the idea that they'd have the nerve to constantly scam like this.

Edit x2: I see it has since been taken down. Thankfully with this fella I've always archived anything relating to them, so here are a couple of corresponding archives. This isn't worth bumping the thread for, so I'm leaving it as an edit for later viewing.

- Their TalentedDeviants article (the live references of this article have also been archived)

My god that’s a trip. Disregarding how nonsensical that page is, the user just seems, frankly, delusional. This just means there’s no talking to or reasoning with them. Better to disengage once they’ve sent their standard bad screenshots/fake proof and go hunt down whichever poor artist they’ve stolen from this time. This one’s just going to keep this up until they find something else to be interested in.

Mercer

It might be prudent to keep an eye on this account.

I don't want to assume every thief is this same guy, so for now it's worth a watch. I've preemptively done some archives for later.

January

I’ve suspected this for a while, but Digiphase has always been aware of TH and likely has a TH account by now that they aren’t publicizing since the last one (Flakia) got closed down. It’s possible that since people linked this PSA several times on several of their accounts that they’ve gotten around to reading it and are modifying their general presentation.

Because I get the same vibe from this account with the overall randomness of the descriptions and the vague disjoint feeling in the way they phrase things: ‘I want to give this girl in good hands’. If we assume senpu-adopts was another of the Digiphase fakes based on how much effort they went through to generate that fake sketch layer, it’s possible they no longer try the same tells.

If anyone’s purchased from him and knows the current PayPal accounts, that would be great for comparison and potential reporting to PayPal. Unless he’s cycling multiple bank accounts as well, it’s generally difficult to create new PayPals that link the same bank.

January

Anyone recognize the “taksinty” artist on DA or can confirm the artist has that DA account in particular? I see a FB page for a “Taksin Ty” when Googling the username, but the art posted there doesn’t look at all like what’s visible on DA and I’ve had friends tell me they’ve seen some of the adoptables on that account elsewhere. If it turns out to be nothing after a bit of collective brainstorming, I’ll redact the name in an edit.

Mercer

I took a peek and sadly I can't exactly confirm much. At the very least I'm not sure our friend here speaks Thai.

I agree the account seems strange and my initial thought was the FB and dA are unrelated, but a search of taksinty adoptable brought up a facebook adoptable market group and they're definitely the same user.

I'm not sure how I feel about it because in some ways it feels consistent, just like there's some style experimenting. But who can tell these days. I'm not at a PC currently so maybe someone else can find some certainty through this group.

January

@Mercer Thanks for checking it, it seems consistent so far, so it’s probably nothing to worry about. Likely the people who saw the adoptables elsewhere might have seen it from the FB group in that case.
