WHAT ARE TERUGAMI ?

Terugami are beings born from a wish made to any specific god, their most defining characteristics being their multiple ears and fluffy tails. In rare cases, Terugami can be born from the flames of a lantern that lights a shrine. These Teru are formed from the essence of thoughts, feelings and emotions from humans, which is then gathered by the lantern flame until a being manifests. More commonly, Terugami can be born alternately from curses. These Teru are then called Aiziteru (see below). The gods are unable to directly interfere in the mortal realm, and the Teru are then left to grant the specific wish they were born from. They have one main purpose in life, to serve, worship and dedicate themselves to their gods. Teru also act as a bridge between the two planes of existence, the near shore, where humans reside, and the far shore, where gods, demons and other spirits. Therefore, Teru are able to exist in and travel between both planes.

TRAITS AND APPEARANCE ?

f1090b36_51d2_4e8d_9a9c_b2427980ff82_by_(please click on the above image to read more about the lore!)

Terugami are a species with multiple sexes and genders, not limited to what humans define as 'male' and 'female'.

They are just above a human average of 6'0" and it's very uncommon they're any shorter.

In general, every Teru has a set of tertiary eyes and a third eye located elsewhere on their face, most commonly the forehead. Their third eye allows them to see the far shore and it's beings, and the tertiary, the near shore. Because of this, some Teru choose to have their tertiary eyes remain closed to resist temptations from the mortal realm out of fear they would not be able to return to their gods. Every Teru also has a emblem or jewel floating above their forehead, which represents the god they serve. If the third eye were to close or the emblem to break, the Teru would die. Teru with broken emblems are outcast by their god and are looked down upon by other Teru.

Teru normally have long, slender legs, as well as wings connected to the lower spine and two sensory spots on either cheek or on their necks, which allows them to sense the auras around them, and also act as erogenous zones.

Skintones range widley throughout Terus, but white though rich brown are the most common. Teru's sense of fashion is mainly influenced by the location in which their shrine is located and the occupation of the god they serve.

Most Teru live on the near shore, alongside humans, maintaining their shrines and granting their wish. Despite their strange appearance, Teru are not often shocking to people they may pass on the street. Teru are naturally born so that, even though they are not able to hide their appearance, they are far less noticeable than normal humans to others.

Some Teru also choose to decorate themselves with talismans to ward off demons who may try to attack them.

AIZITERU ?

Aiziteru are a sub mutation of Terugami, created from curses on the other hand. Wishes such as for people to be murdered or such. These wishes then create minor gods of war and death, with little over 2 worshipers, which the Aizi then serve. Aizi have no emblem, as their god has no other defining purpose than to kill and create chaos. While Teru can only have up to one extra eye, Aizi can have up to hundreds, which often take up large portions of the face or abdomen, giving them a more Ayakashi like look. This is due to the fact that they are connected much more strongly to the far shore, as their god has little to no presence in the near shore and resides in the far.

Aizi also show vastly different behaviour in their demeanour, apart from their unwavering loyalty to their gods, and are often manic and obsessive (especially when it comes to 'love'). Most Aizi are hostile and do not interact well with Teru, as they enjoy killing them and humans for fun.

OTHER INFO ?

Teru are extremely loyal and devoted to their god, and see them as the only important thing in their lives commonly. Teru are usually peaceful but are known to be some of the best fighters in the far shore, especially when it comes to protecting their god.

Any other trait not mentioned (multiple wings, etc.) or mixing of species (centaur teru, etc.) are considered mutations and are a rare trait.

Do they have genetalia? Probably. I dunno man I didn't get that far----

One god may have many Terugami that serve them, but one Teru may not serve more than one god, it's physically impossible for them. A Teru may not take up a new emblem once they have fulfilled their wish or if they are exiled. Some gods may have up to thousands of Teru, as they only die at 1000 years old from natural causes.
