Little bit of a big update! The lore/information website is now PUBLIC -- it's lacking almost all its image assets at the moment, along with some of the typed content, BUT there's quite a bit to read up on (including celestial/terrestrial traits and some sneak peeks or very obvious hints as to what else I have planned)! This species is going to end up being very lore heavy, but also extremely flexible in how they can be implemented in existing worlds! The primary storyline is that Earth and the Ulivari realms have been unexpectedly linked via the interdimensional magic that connects the two Ulivari planes (terrestrial/celestial), but this can also apply to other worlds/universes if it pleases you. Overall I'm trying to allow the greatest creative flexibility while also providing a compelling narrative to build off of! c:

This is a very important part of the whole project and gives a lot of context to the magic system, as well as some context for the belief system:
As part of choosing to follow a god and gain the powers of their domain, young Ulivari undergo a ritual in which they first commune with their chosen deity and establish their divine connection. It is customary for each Uli to receive a carved, painted hagstone representing this connection, crafted with care, kept for the entirety of their life -- even if they choose to later follow another god. It’s considered extremely bad luck to lose one’s stone, despite the lack of any tangible benefits coming from the stone itself. Heart Stone / Stone of Actualization “I choose the path of Pelefora… In so doing, I shall better understand the souls of my fellow Ulivari; I shall better see the ties that bind us as one, and how strife is sown among us.” By forging a bond with Pelefora, one gains the elemental power of fire, and the esoteric power of emotion; outside of being able to produce and control flame, this means that one may more easily read and understand the emotions and wants of those around them, create specific emotional auras, acquire or cast off desired/undesired feelings, and potentially relive the memories of others by way of emotional sensing, as well as projecting the effects of Pelefora’s gift across planes and dimensions. In its most dangerous form, the power of emotion may be used to force such great turmoil upon others that immediate death seems the only solace -- that is, if the overwhelming intensity of the feeling has not yet broken their physical body. Mind Stone / Stone of Revelation “I choose the path of Celanesra… In so doing, I shall better understand the minds of my fellow Ulivari; I shall better grasp the fabric of the universe, and how we belong in it.” By forging a bond with Celanesra, one gains the elemental power of air, and the esoteric power of thought; outside of being able to produce and control the winds, this means that one may to some degree manipulate the physical world around them through mental will alone, explore the current thoughts of those around them, immediately gain a basic understanding of unknown concepts and entities upon becoming aware of them, and potentially draw knowledge or experience upon contact with a person or object, as well as projecting the effects of Celanesra’s gift across planes and dimensions. In its most dangerous form, the power of thought can be used to steal or plant memories and ideas in others, forcing them to forget their personhood or act to one’s will. Life Stone / Stone of the Creator “I choose the path of Ghilavyr… In so doing, I shall better understand the lives of my fellow Ulivari; I shall better imagine the future ahead of us, and how we might create it.” By forging a bond with Ghilavyr, one gains the elemental power of water, and the esoteric power of creation; outside of being able to shape and control water, this means that one may learn to create something from nothing -- drawing material into being where once there was none, alter the properties and states alchemy-like of that which already exists in the world, supplement or heal the life forces of the sick or dying so that they might survive, and potentially even breathe life into that which is no longer or has never been alive. In its most dangerous form, the power of creation can be used to overwhelm and overtake through sheer force and persistence, until there is no longer space for life to flourish or survive, nor room for new existence to take place. Death Stone / Stone of the Keeper “I choose the path of Frignilfyr… In so doing, I shall better understand the deaths of my fellow Ulivari; I shall better reflect upon our existence, and how time flows around us.” By forging a bond with Frignilfyr, one gains the elemental power of earth, and the esoteric power of decay; outside of being able to shape and control the earth, this means that one may draw on entropy and the natural and necessary destabilization of all matter to either hasten or slow the process, dematerialize that which exists in the physical world, draw physical pain and suffering out from the body of another, and potentially manipulate the flow of time around a particular space. In its most dangerous form, the power of death can be used to destroy to excess, or eternally preserve that which demands destruction. ----------------------------------------- While all Ulivari tend to feel called to one particular god in their youth as a part of their coming of age, it is not unusual for some to feel drawn to another god later in their years. They may choose to instead commune with and serve this god, respectfully severing their connection to their previous patron deity and losing the powers of that domain as a result of joining a new one. It’s customary for Ulivari who have chosen a new path to keep their old stone alongside the new one they receive. Though incredibly rare, it’s also not unheard of for an Uli to still be able to maintain the connection and powers of their previous domain as they move to a new one... These Ulivari are considered to be Chosen, but for what reason or purpose remains a nebulous concept even to elder followers of Celanesra... |

There's going to be quite a bit more lore to read since I've started to work on a designated weebly site to house all the Uli info, since it's a lot more aesthetically pleasing and easier to organize than just keeping everything on DA, hah -- still have to do a lot of art for the site before I'll be able to publish it publicly, but it'll probably be released before the whole opening event (free MYO, raffle, and adopt batch, all that stuff)!
I'll have to consider calling them abyssals honestly... it's not something I considered, since I was more just drawing from the angel/demon aesthetic than anything else -- maybe it would be a bit more distinctive that way? In any case, thank you for the input and interest!
Popping back in now and then to see the first post updated is neat af, the variety of examples in the size/stature part is giving me fresh struggle feelings of thinking of future designs lmao. Ok the gods thing? The figuring them out then impacting on what you have? That's the good struggle there, it's such a good feeling to realise the trickle down and how it all fits together. Using the term Abyssal for demonic looks sit good in my grubby little D&D loving heart

I've been updating Ghilavyr's finished design on and off as I add stuff to my list of ideas for traits and whatnot, so there's a big back and forth between the gods reflecting the regular Uli and regular Uli affecting the gods as well! I think it'll be nice to have them both reflect each other in different ways but also be distinct, hah. Still considering using abyssal, potentially, though I fear if I ended up bothering to change it I might miss some instances of terrestrial, plus I'd have to go through and manually correct any text spacing messed up by the change Decisions
All the domains also have some Secret Traits, and there will also be some Secret Faction-Specific Traits that will end up being released with or after the full trait sheets sheets, so keep an eye out for those too!
Well obviously there's only one solution about the abyssal name: keep it under wraps for now and reveal the secret eldritch alien deep sea abyssal ulivari sometime in the future. i'm looking forward to the angler fish/lamprey/space whale god!

PeekayLove okay okay you joke but that's kind of genius actually and you're giving me ideas.... It would certainly be something that'd come up as an event far in the future after the group has gotten running but... I am jotting this down in my info doc as a potential future concept... I've been on a bit of a cosmic horror bent recently so the concept of some cosmic horror entities entering the world & introducing new conflict and physical mutations, possibly new magic, would be a real fun thing to tackle
It's a continuously proven fact in my life that all the best ideas start off as a jokes before going "well... actually..." and I hope you have fun scratching that eldritch horror itch. Sometimes you just want a gooey thousand eye monstrosity.
Ah new updates on the skim! Lovely new banner, some updates to mantis parent Fig, and some halos huh? I dunno if it's intentional but I'm seeing the eye socket shapes on the skull as kinda petal shaped. The note on eye colour and heterochromia has been there awhile but I like the potential from it being free combined with the halo morphing when changing domains as a mark of an uli's personal progress in how they define themselves and their chosen god.
PeekayLove There's a significant bit of Secret Content I've been working on and keeping on an unpublished website that has quite a bit to do with interesting morphology for Uli, fun traits (as I mentioned in a previous response!), and fun flavor text for the world, and I'm excited to get to share that once I've finished everything :0
