heartigans are made of both plush and fur!

  general

every heartigan is anthro and has at least 1 head, 2 arms, 2 legs, and 2 wings. they can be plantigrade, digitigrade or have a version for each! any of their parts can be colored or patterned as their creator wishes.

  fur

a heartigan's ears, any leg or torso that is visible, their tail and hair if any are all fur! their fur parts can be based on any mammal. the most common seem to be cats, dogs, or rabbits. they can have multiple tails if you'd like!

  fabric

their most prominent plush trait is their "cardigan", or the fabric shirt/dress on their torso. their cardigan can be as long or short as their creator wishes but the sleeves always extend to at least the paws as they and their arms are plush too! it can be shaped.

their face and socks are also plush as well as every heartigan's wings! 

their face can be functional (ie "real" eyes and mouth) or nonfunctional (ie embroidered nonmoving face) according to the creators wishes as long as at least 2 stitches in the middle are visible. in the case of their wings, they can be any shape or size as long as they are sewn to their shoulder blades. no matter the size though, these wings are always nonfunctional. 

they always have paws! their "pawpads" are not actually pads but rather printed onto the fabric of their plush paws.

  collar

a heartigan's cardigan fabric is sort of pinched around their head and pinned in place to their body by their collar. this neck accessory can be a collar, choker, scarf, ribbon, button or anything else you can think of as long as it covers the neck and is not originally part of their body! it cannot be removed.

  heart

a heartigans most important feature is their "heart!" no, its not in their insides! a heartigan's heart is located on the top right (viewer's right) of their head.

after heartigans are created they are immediately instinctually drawn to find and collect a meaningful item to keep forever. this heart gives them the energy they need to remain animated, and they often (but not always) change their appearance to reflect this item. this can be anything from their favorite food to a stuffed animal, a flower they picked on a bad day or a paintbrush to show their love of art. not all hearts are so "wholesome" though - some heartigans elect to choose more unconventional or unsavory hearts. once chosen a heart can never be changed!

a heartigan's heart can be almost anything!

- food: a food item, also includes drinks. anything that is usually meant to be eaten
- shape: a 2d or 3d shape, can be of any complexity or geometry
- plant: a living or dead plant, includes fungi
- tech: anything technological or electronical
- hobby: items relating to hobbies, games or pasttimes
- sentimental: extremely sentimental items
- animal: rare trait! pictured in the next section.
- misc: anything else that doesnt fit into the other categories (not pictured)

your heartigan's heart can also fit into two or more categories depending on what it is! for example, a camera could be both tech and hobby.

there is some restrictions though! these may change or become rarer traits in the future.
- it must not be a functioning appendage (ie it can not be a working wing or eye. this can be worked around by transforming them into nonliving items)
- it must be in the right spot and there cannot be 2 hearts! feel free to combine 2 items into one like our mascot dolce! (heart + rainbow)
- it must not be invisible or intangible (ie a "glitched" area or a concept. this can be worked around by transforming your idea into something tangible, like a screen displaying a glitch or a printed out poem)
- it must not be too big! it shouldnt be bigger than around the size of the top right half of the head its resting on. however it can be very small as long as it is easily visible.

🌟rare traits

rarely, a heartigan might display some more unique traits! as of now, this includes non mammal and non animal tails, extra wings / different wing placement, horns and halos, and animal hearts!

non mammal and non animal tails can include fish tails, spaded tails, bug tails, cloud tails, and most anything you can think of!

horns and halos can be as big or small as you'd like, and a rare heartigan may have multiple or both. 

even if they have 1 set of wings, if it's in a place other than the shoulder blades, this makes it a rare trait! rare heartigans can have as many sets of wings as you'd like.

lastly, a rare heartigan can also have a living animal heart! this creature stays permanently on their head, but is alive and is usually their best friend. it can be any creature that is small enough to fit on their head and can be mythical or fantastical!
