A Deal Is Struck

With the door closed behind them, Ladi was left standing in a room with three others. A man who was seated at the desk, looking about as enthusiastic about this all as he was, a woman who was seated on the side and didn’t look very happy at all, and the one who invited him in. Each seemed to have different opinions about what was happening, but they had still invited him here so whatever they wanted had to be important enough despite any conflicts they were having along the way. His eyes stayed on the female though, lips formed into a frown as she stared out the window at the moment.

“Don’t mind her, she’s just a bit displeased we didn’t pick one of her favorite scientists.” The man at the desk spoke, a more quiet voice that was almost soothing in a way. Ladi turned away to look at him, giving a nod as a kind smile as he understood that much.

“They would have been able to do this project, but instead you call in this outsider who--”

“Olivia, we discussed this. This project isn’t just another one of your pet projects to sink money into, we want actual results.” Rolling her eyes, she sat up and turned her attention back into the room. Displeased that she couldn’t get her way, but Ladi was having a fun enough time watching this.

“Not to interrupt, but could I get more details about the project? The file is informative but there seems to be purposeful gaps left, what is it you wanted to use the child for?”

“We were hoping to have a physical and digital hybrid created, that would work as an anti-virus for the world made for it to live in.” Getting hushed, the man at the desk seemed to be the one in charge as he paid no mind to them. “It's better to put the information up front, rather than to lead along someone left in the dark and unsure what they’re doing.”

“Yes but you could have at least led into something less... direct!”

“No, please, keep being as direct as possible. I don’t have time for beating around the bush and wasting my time with corrections. Growing lifeforms is a long and tiresome process for a person, let alone without one.” He could feel the female staring a hole in the side of his head, but he was used to this effect on people. He was here for curiosity only, and would rather not have his time wasted.

“Mmmmm, I think I prefer this one over Olivia’s choice.” The doorman commented, having a seat now as well. It warned a smile from the desk man, who continued on.

“I thought you might, I’ve only heard good things about Ladislav. We’ll discuss what we are looking for more in detail, but are there any other things you want to bring to our attention before we continue?”

“There is one, I have a clause in my contracts. I assume all of you are well aware of it if my own genetics are used for the creations.”

“We are indeed, we can work something out if it comes into play.” The man at the desk held out his hand, Ladi extending his own to shake on the newly formed deal that would soon become his ever waking moment for months to come.
