Ashdawn and Blizzardstar's First Meeting

It didn’t take Blizzardsight too much longer to meet another cat after fleeing the burning camp. An apprentice called Ashpaw, an undersized calico who was from Daisyheart’s most recent litter.

“Blizzardsight, thank the stars, I wasn’t sure if anyone else made it!” He mewed to the duo. “Have you seen anyone else? I was too scared to go up or downriver to check.” Blizzardsight stepped quickly towards Ashpaw and rubbed against him, attempting to soothe the rattled apprentice.

“I was heading to the Tree Wall, but haven’t seen anyone. The others might’ve crossed the river, but I’d rather not check.” He mewed. “Stick with me. We’ll be safer that way.” The calico nodded.

“Do you think the others made it? My mother? Sootfur? Anyone?” Ashpaw mewed worriedly.

“Hush, Ashpaw. We’ll find them, I promise.” Blizzardsight mewed, looking down at the apprentice. “I will do all that I can to ensure that we find them all. For now, the best we can do it stay safe, and have hope.” Ashpaw took a shuddering breath, and then another, before he nodded.

“Isn’t there an abandoned fox set in the Tree Wall? We could stay there until the fire dies down?” Ashpaw mewed, voice shaking just a little.

“That’s a good idea. Come on, you can lead the way.” Ashpaw nodded as Blizzardsight spoke. He knew that the elder cat was trying to soothe him, but it wasn’t really working.

“Are… are you sure that others survived? The fire is still burning, and- and I’m scared, Blizzardsight. What will happen to us if we are the only ones?” Ashpaw mewed tentatively.

“Ashpaw.” Blizzardsight’s tone stopped the apprentice from moving. “Calm down. Panicking will get us nowhere, alright? Can you breathe for me. Deep breaths. I promise that we’ll be okay. We can work this out alright?” The younger cat looked at his elder, taking deep, shaky breaths. The silver tom stepped forwards and rasped a tongue over the younger’s forehead. “We will be okay.” The calico nodded, eyes closing as he leant into Blizzardsight for comfort, which the elder was willing to give.

“I- okay. Okay.” Ashpaw nodded again. “The set is this way. It should be safe.”
