The Forgotten Winds Prompts

"This place is so strange, nothing that I could ever imagine being possible." Hades' meow was nearly silent, the sound almost like a whisper of death. 

Nereus shivered, remembering only a few moments before had the brown tabby reared several skeletons from the earth around him, losing the lifeless look that clutched his frame. Now, the tabby was tall and well-muscled, carrying an air that told Nereus this cat was a king, let alone a diety. 

"It'll grow to become your home..." Nereus mewed in reply, realizing just how silent he himself was being. "Currently, none of us have to share caves with each other as our titles are different. But eventually, you might have to have a roommate.

"Let's hope it's a she-cat." Volos appeared out of the dusty earth to the blue tom's right, startling him out of his next sentence. 

"Volos, we've discussed this, we can't determine who is next to come here, I think it's decided once they die, and we're told to come and meet them," Nereus explained, his tone growing stern toward the excitable tom.

"Whatever Mr. knowitall. Hey! If you're so smart, how do we get more cats if none are decided when they die?" Volos challenged, his tiny paws beating the earth threateningly. Dust began to lift around them and Nereus hastily covered the earth in a soft sheen of water to help calm down Volos. The ground soaked it up quickly, leaving it just as dry as before.

"Why would you ask that?" Nereus asked, glancing briefly over to Hades, who sat quietly a few tail lengths away. 

"Because why not? Old man!" Volos spat.

Nereus flattened his ears, face beginning to burn with the first signs of embarrassment. "What?" He asked, bewildered.

"Oh, you weren't told that part?" Hades suddenly chirped, eyes growing bright for a brief second. Both of the older residents turned to stare at him in confusion.

"You mean you were told things?" Volos asked, nudging Nereus with his paw roughly, causing the blue tom to stumble. "This dummy had to teach me everything, which sucks considering I hate his lack of energy!" He grinned broadly, sharp teeth glinting in the sunlight.

"I was never told anything myself, I learnt it during the months I was here on my own." Nereus' face matched that of the earth deity at his side, and he looked up at Hades as if he suddenly produced the meaning of life. His eyes squinted, the flowing water at his tail drooping slightly as he focused.

The brown tabby beamed, sitting down. "I think what... whoever put us here, if we have a strong enough bond with another cat... we can, merge our powers with them to? create a new diety?" He sounded even more confused than the rest, and his meow dipped quieter and quieter. He flattened his ears and glanced away. 

Nereus took a step forward. "Why don't you go explore your cave? We can all figure it out later. Currently, none of us has a bond with another so we don't need to worry about that yet." He purred, giving the larger tom a reassuring nudge and smile. Hades nodded, eyes growing tired as he wandered off to the new addition of the canyon. 

"So like, any cats? Not just she-cats?" Volos asked, eyes screwing up as he thought. He shook his head, his folded ears flopping around. 

"I guess so, I don't think they care about sexualities here, it sounds simple enough." Nereus explained with a shrug, sitting down heavily, his tail growing full of flowing water once more.

"I didn't really care about the procreating part, I just wanted to know if we could have... mates here." Volos muttered, catching Nereus off guard as he turned to regard his... worldmate. 

"It's fine if you want one, it might be interesting considering we all have different caves though. Maybe we could merge caves for mates?" Nereus wondered, looking back at the small tom. "You are gifted with earth manipulation." He explained with a shrug. "Maybe that could be a ceremony?" he asked aloud.

Volos nodded, looking around. "Why don't we figure that out when we get to it? I like the ceremony idea though, and the merging of caves! I can give it a try when we get our first pair." He grinned confidently, thick tail whisking stray dust around his paws. "I'll take next watch, you must be tired waiting for mister Big to come up." He chuckled.

Nereus nodded gratefully, and wandered off toward his own cave. He had a lot of thinking to do anyway, he wanted to know how he could make courtship and mateship ceremonies work. It was an interesting concept that he wasn't quite sure how to make it possible, but he wanted to try.
