The Collapsing Mesa

It was around noon when Lux found himself out on the mesa. He’d heard it was a good place to be able to look out and see long distances, focus, and find a little more peace than normal. Frory was perched on his shoulder, seemingly oblivious to his own weight. Lux didn’t mind; Frory was a good companion. Upon making it up to the mesa’s top, he took a moment to settle himself on the edge, legs dangling off. A soft breeze rustled his blonde hair as he leaned back and giggled as he took in the view in. Frory chirped out in his happiness. It was a wonderful afternoon indeed.

The albino dragon paced evenly beneath the midday sun, his hood flared to keep him cool, the navy cat sprawled out on his back, dozing, as far above them, the barbary falcon soared, riding the thermals with ease. The mesa loomed up infront of them, a perfect, isolated place to practice the dragons magic. Reaching the base Zuri leapt from rock to rock, climbing the sides, his powerful hind legs propelling him; barely heeding the cats claws as they dug in for purchase. One last powerful leap and they were at the top; though Zuri almost tumbled back, so close to the strangers he was, folding his hood to appear less threatingly, he lowered his head. "Sorry.* He apologised. Meiron was now fully awake, but kept quiet for now, staring at the youngster and the small dragon.

“Oh!” Exclaimed the boy, clearly startled. “You came right out of nowhere, I’m sorry, you just spooked me.” The kid chuckled, clearly not actually afraid of the dragon. “Well, what are you doing out here? Do you have a rider nearby? Or are you an independent dragon?” He offered his hand for the dragon to investigate and sniff if it would like, basic animal mannerisms, probably an old force of habit.

Zuri flared his hood for a single moment, Meiron aware of excatly how the white dragon was about to respond jumped down, settling himself on a sun warmed rock to stare at the boy. "Brace yourself." He said telapathically. Zuri hummed deep in his throat happily, and ignored the outstretched arm, rubbing against the boy in affection. Zuri." Meiron said, aware of the dragons strength, both were still precariously close to the edge of the mesa. "So any particular reason your out in the middle of nowhere."

“Oh! Both of you can talk? Well, it’s nice to meet you both!” Lux scratched Zuri in affection too, surprisingly good at bracing himself, and Frory gave a good sniff in the direction of the newcomers before deciding you are cool. “I’m Lux, this is Frory. And we’re out here because we wanted to go sightseeing a little. We’re a bit newer to the whole chronoscape thing. Me especially.” Lux said with a smile. ”Just looking for somewhere with a little less inherent chaos.” Offered Frory. ”How about you?”

"What you thought i was a a random cat?" Meiron responded yawning. Zuri meanwhile ignored his riders snarky reply, happily accepting the scratches; Meiron looked out form the mesa spotting the falcon in the distance, tail lashing slightly as he felt something... off.. nearby. "The white pillow is Zuri, i'm Meiron." He responded, as Zuri dropped back a bit to peer up at Frory. "I'm young as well, and theres loads of interesting places around here." Zuri chattered, raising a paw and holding it to Frory. "Umm... well.... " He offered sheepishly. "We should be hunting, but a certain white thing doesn't like to hunt...." Meiron supplied, just as the earth shifted ever so slightly; he stood up. "I think..." at that point, the earth moved, shattering the mesa.

“I didn’t really think there was any other type of cat I should be aware of... is there?” And at the Mesa beginning to shatter, Lux’s eyes widened as he grabbed Frory and curled himself around the small dragon, deciding to use his body as a shield for whatever was about to happen. In that moment, Frory looked around and let out a panicked chirp, and nestled into Lux on alarmed instinct. Being a metal dragon, that means cuts, but neither seemed to mind. And in the chaos of it all, lightning crashed around them. Was that lightning always there?

Zuri yelped as the earth moved, struggling to find purchase amidst the chaos; Meiron shifted the cat like body becoming larger as feathers sprouted, the gryphon flaring his wings to slow his own descent, flinching as the lightning surged around him and concentrating on holding the gryphons form, talons outstretched to grab Lux and his dragon. "Magic, Zuri," He called out, silver shifting on his body as the lightning flickered closer.

Magic, how was he to use his magic, he'd never delved into it before never having a need, he'd seen others use it; the earth continued to fall into the massive chasm below the mesa, his rider would likely survive, but the young boy and his dragon.. Hopping onto a particularly large rock he flared his hood, concentrating on the rocks around them, loose shards of earth falling. If he could just... stick them together...

The white dragon started to glow green, and around him, numerous other falling rocks began to come closer, shunting into 'his' rock the jolt startling, but Zuri was to lost in the magic to notice, the green speading further and further as more and more rocks collided, creating a plate of rock, it was still falling... but at least there was somewhere to stand, veins of green running though the connected land.

Lux winced as he crashed onto the plate of land, but it didn’t hurt nearly so much as if he’d hit the earth further below. Not like the two are mutually exclusive. He found himself looking up at Zuri while wrapped around Frory defensively still, in a bit of awe.

Meiron landed folding his wngs back to his body, blocking out the green glow as the 'plate' continued to fall, far to used to earth magic to be bothered, his concern was next... they were still tumbling down into the chasm below. Zuri, blinked, hood still flared as he drooped, the magic tiring...

The green glow continued to spread, intelocking more and more earth together, but this time, it connected the plate to the sides of the ravine.... and stopping the descent. The glow fading, just as Zuri stumbled into the side of his rider, panting. "Well... not quite the view you were after then." Meiron commented, holding a talon out to pull Lux up.

One arm still locked around Frory defensively, he grabbed the talon with his remaining hand, mild anxiety clearly having ran its course. Lux was bleeding, though not from the fall so much as trying to wrap himself around the little metal dragon. Judging by the amount of old cuts and massive scarring on the kid though, he’d be fine, and has definitely had worse. After ensuring that Frory was, in fact, okay, he allowed the small dragon to clamber back up onto his shoulder. “Certainly not,” remarked Lux, “but it was quite the ride.” The kid looked around at the ravine and their spot within it, trying to process the past minute or so.
