Will You Read Me A Story?
When a child abandons their plaything, what is to become of them? Most of the time they are simply left to rot in the garbage, but for some, they are infected by a magical parasyte. This parasyte enters through the torso or neck, it takes surrounding material, it sprouts out of joints and grows into the air, eventually forming a cross like structure. These parasytes developed this as a survival mechanism, by hiding as a simple toy, it is able to avoid detection and survive. In doing this, it gives the plaything life, making it into a puppet. The parasyte survives by taking resources from the puppet! The Puppet and the Parasyte share the same core, so if the puppet dies so does the parasyte, however they have different sentience.
Puppets
Early Life
When playthings first become puppets, they have no memory of the child that abandoned them, nor of the world. So they rely heavily on their parasyte to guide them. This is where the concept of Puppets being controlled by their cross brace comes from, many parasyte-puppet duos were not quite in sync yet, and ended up being spotted. Before this concept, marionnettes were strictly ornamental, hung up for display by their cross brace. The parasyte continues to thrive, and so marionettes designed to be controlled via strings began production, this further helps the parasytes survival.
Parasyte-Puppet Relationship
As Puppets grow used to the world, and sometimes even regain past memories of their child. They grow more and more dissatified with their controlling and demanding parasyte. As they become more independent, conflicts begin to arise between them, often resulting in a complicated relationship, often with them both consistently trying to get one over on the other. In some cases, the relationship grows particularly sour and the Puppet cuts the strings, essentially killing the parasyte. When a puppets strings are cut, they become a doll.
Dolls
Post-cut
After cutting off the parasyte, Dolls have varied reactions. Some simply throw away the cross brace and move on with their lives. Others grow regretful or sentimental and keep their cross brace, some decorate it with things the parasyte wouldve liked or things that remind them of their past. Some refuse to alter it in any way, and refuse to let anyone touch it. Some take it with them wherever they go. This can be a time of relief and freedom, or a time of pain and heartache. It very much depends on their personality.
Moving On
Many dolls find emotional freedom from their parasyte and their past by altering their bodies, creating a new person piece by piece gives them a sense of control. This phase of life comes to most dolls eventually, finally able to form their own sense of identity, seperate from anything else, be it child, or parasyte.
