↳ birth
the joy of biting into a waffle, the satisfaction of eating the last strawberry on the cake, the relief of drinking sweet lemonade on a hot summer day, the comfort of your grandmother’s pies…
candycreams are little creatures born when such emotions overwhelm humans ; some call them sweet fairies, or guardian spirits. once born, they usually find a little bakery or a kind human to welcome them, and settle their workshop there ; their purpose is to make sweets to reciprocate the feelings that gave birth to them. essentially, they want to make the people around them happy through their delicious creations !
as time passes, as new desserts are being created, new kinds of candycreams are also brought to life. these days, you can easily spot an old-fashioned charlotte candycream alongside a trendy bubble tea candycream !

↳ essence
candycreams can be born from different emotions ; these are called their “essence”. as of now, 6 main emotions have been identified as such ; love, self-acceptance, hope, belonging, joy, and comfort.
candycreams’ essence can be easily identified by the pattern on their paws and on the fur on their chest. the 6 afore-mentioned emotions are represented by a heart, a planet, a star, a moon, a sun, and a clover.

↳ sugar crystals
candycreams all preciously carry a jar in which they keep their sugar crystals. sugar crystals are emotion-infused magic crystals that humans produce when eating or drinking candycreams’ food. the magic contained in them reinforces candycreams’ abilites and allows them to make even more delicious sweets !
once they collect enough sugar crystals, candycreams are able to give them up to grant a human’s wish ; usually the one whose emotions gave birth to them, or the one caring for them. of course, these wishes have limitations -they can’t bring someone back to life or grant them infinite riches-, but they can allow someone to move on from something that hurt them, or give them the courage to accomplish their dreams.

↳ sugar jars
sugar jars are, along with their wands, a candycream’s most priced possession. they hold all the work they have made efforts towards throughout their lives, and each crystal represents a success and a precious experience for them. for this reason, candycreams usually hide away their jars in places only they know, mostly to avoid humans accidentally knocking them over and breaking them. since sugar crystals are so fragile that they can only keep their form inside sugar jars, a broken jar means a candycream will have to start their sugar crystals collection all over again.
there are as many jars as there are candycreams. they’re the one to choose the recipient, which doesn’t really have to be a jar : it can be a perfume bottle, a candy box, or any other recipient that can hold the crystals safe. they can come in all colors and shapes, but they rarely exceed the size of a candycream. the bigger the recipient though, the more crystals it can hold, and the bigger the wish the candycreams are able to grant to the human of their choice.

↳ lifestyle
candycreams are little floating or flying creatures akin to fairies, and follow their favorite human around through their day. they are able to communicate with humans and form deep bonds, and usually end up settling with one in order to give them the support and friendship they think they deserve.
candycreams feed on sugar and sweet food, and given their small size -no more than 20cm-, they can sleep and live anywhere, usually by their human’s side. they wear clothes, usually handmade from scraps of fabric given by humans, or sometimes doll clothes that fit their size. they are little cheerful and sweet life companions !
candycreams cannot really die per se ; but if for some reason they are unable to form a bond with any human, don't indulge in baking anything, don't collect sugar crystals and do not feed on sweetness, they'll lose their energy and fall asleep indefinitely. a candycream that's gone to sleep can be woken up by being fed sugar.

↳ appearance/personality
candycreams come in all colors and shapes. they usually have some animal characteristics -bunnies, cats, wolves, bears...-, supernatural characteristics -wings-, and dessert characteristics, such as the ice cream buns on either side of their head. they don’t age and they don’t have sexual characteristics, though they can change over time and can use any pronouns.
candycreams have as many different personalities as humans do, though most are kind and cheerful, and it is rare to meet a cynical or an asocial candycream. candycreams that may appear cold on the surface might have difficulties expressing themselves or doubt themselves, but they care deeply about humans, as all candycreams do.

↳ powers
candycreams’ powers become stronger as they grow and develop their baking skills. all are capable of basic telekinesis, which they use to make ingredients and recipients float across the kitchen -their size would indeed make it difficult to carry a bowl over to an oven.
candycreams are not born master bakers ; just like everyone else they have to learn, usually by an older candycream’s side. however, they do have a natural way with recipes close to the dessert or drink from which they were born.
rare and legendary candycreams, born from stronger emotions, also possess stronger magical abilities. most are even able to take on a humanoid form !
other powers candycreams can develop over time include spells that can summon sprinkles or chips, re-heat or cool down desserts, or even give life to sweets or candies.

↳ wands
candycreams all carry with them a piece of magical tablewear that serve as wands, and allow them to cast their magic. they can be either a spoon, a fork, a knife. spoon-bearers tend to be the kindest and sweetest candycreams, fork-bearers are usually the cheerful and easy-going ones, while the knife-bearers are typically the most practical and wise.
the wands come in different materials ; wood, metal, silver, gold, or even diamond or other precious gemstones for the rarest specimens. they are adorned with a magic stone which shape represents the candydream’s essence, and which color matches the pattern on their paws and chest. as a candycream grows more powerful, other gems and trinkets can appear on their wands as well.

though extremely rare, it can happen that a candycream comes to life from a negative emotion. a discarded valentine chocolate, a cup of tea thrown away with anger…
such specimens are called candyscreams ; though they don’t particularly strive to spread evil and misfortune, they’re usually bitter about other candycreams’ happiness, as humans see them as failures or bad-luck ridden and usually refuse to form a bond with them.
candyscreams’ essence are of different nature, such as "heartbreak", "loneliness", "self-hatred", or "anger". the pattern on their paws and their tokens come in different shapes as well, such as broken hearts or tears.
candyscreams are also born with wands, however their materials are corrupt as well ; this usually means black rusted metal and broken crystals. however, they usually don’t possess a jar, since they are often unable to produce sugar crystals themselves -they are unable to understand the positive emotions that come from baking and eating together, and therefore cannot infuse it in their cooking.
candyscreams usually prefer to stay alone, and can either give out sweets to people in secret, or cause mischief out of spite. there have been occasions of candyscreams stealing sugar crystals from candycreams, as they are often unable or reluctant to produce them themselves -this is another reason for regular candycreams to hide away their precious jars.
however, these acts are done out of frustration, jealousy, or loneliness, due to their status of "corrupted" species and the treatment they receive. none of them are evil by nature, as they are a species who ultimately thrives to make others happy.
