• Grew up in a semi-functional household in lower-class housing, spent her spare time in her youth (12-17) sneaking out to go to a nearby junkyard.

• Eventually her father grew pissed after realizing not only was she sneaking out to a junkyard, but effectively learning how to repair motor vehicles and other machinery while she was there; a "not-lady-like job" in his eyes.

• Basically forbade her from going; she still did but not nearly as much and not nearly as long.

• Her employment ultimately ended when the old man died shortly before she turned 18, and the new management was not as accomedating to allowing her to be present.

• She still retained the knowledge she gained, though, and a few months after turning 18 secured herself a job at a proper mechanics shop.

• She's worked at mechanics shops since, giving the guise that her job is at a hair salon to avoid suspicion up until she saved enough money to move out at 20; which she then didn't give a rats ass what her parents heard.

• Lives on her own now, with a passion project in the works in the background (and is studying basic coding as well on the side) and working at whatever mechanic shops will allow her. She also does freelance jobs but has yet to start a shop on her own effectively due to the limitations and overall costs of proprietary bullshit some car dealerships require.
