History

⇀ Background

After Fah and her sister were mysteriously abandoned with a small and forgotten tribe, Fah as a mere baby and Aash as an innocent 2 year old, they were left with no one as the tribe leader refused to take in the outsiders. However, a mourning mother, who had lost her only infant to a disease that had swept through the tribe, took the two girls in and embraced them as her own- in secret. She hid the children on the outskirts of the tribe's land, resolving herself to an isolated lifestyle for her two new daughters. She lived just before the sacred forest, where they god that was said to breathe life to the land, the wind and magic itself lived. Though, none were allowed to set foot beyond the treeline, as it was sacred ground and belonged to the god and the god alone. The tribe, though they worshiped this god, they also lived in fear of him. Their mother, however, was never afraid of him. She told stories of how he was the force that made the branches sway, the caring touch that made the birds sing, the loving heart that made the flowers bloom- he was a powerful god indeed, but a caring and compassionate one. The sisters lived for these stories, Fah and Aash often running to the treeline, carefully peeking between the branches and bushes, hoping to catch a glimpse of the wonderful god that she spoke of. The lived peacefully by the trees, away from the tribe, who still had no knowledge of the two beautiful girls.

They were quite different back then, so different from their beautiful blonde haired mother, with her deep skin tones and caring brown eyes. Fahmwalay was a moonlit pale girl, with deep green eyes and long brown hair, deep and rich as the earth below their feet. Aashkeelay, had always carried elegant and lovely features, soft and innocent, with glowing blue eyes and flowing auburn hair, striking against her own pale skin. They were vastly different from all the tribe members in fact, who soon came to find out about the two sisters, after another disease swept through the tribe and they came to ensure that she was alright. The leader intended on banishing the two girls, exiling them from their lands, but their adopted mother, daughter to the late leader, spoke for them. She swayed their hearts and persuaded them to stay, declaring them her official daughters and that if they were not to accept them and banish them, she too, would leave. Left with no choice, the tribe leader allowed them to stay, and the girls quickly won their hearts, Fah especially with her kind and gentle nature.

The tribe was soon greeted with a long and peaceful time, their harvests were plenty, the weather was fair, and their children and elderly remained healthy and happy. It became a wonderful home for the adopted girls, who were no longer seen as outsiders, having been granted their official tribe spirits. Fahmwalay, with her empathy and caring heart, she knew the people of the tribe through and through, at times it was almost as if she could see their ever changing paths of their futures- The stars whispered their wishes to the seer and she bestowed upon her, the raven totem. The raven, though sometimes seen as an ill omen, the tribe took it as a sign of foresight and knowledge, a totem that very few receive. Aashkeelay, with her strength, her bravery, and dedication, was seen as a loyal warrior. She was a protector, she had become a woman of great strength and dignity, with loyalty beyond compare. She was gifted by the stars and the seer, the wolf totem. The wolf was seen as a loyal protector, an omen that one would feel honored to be witness to, as it would mean that they were being watched over, that no harm would come to them. It was a fair and happy time for the girls, but as good things, they must end.

A disease soon ran rampant through the tribe, taking the children and elderly first, gnawing at the hearts of their loved ones- Aashkeelay, one of the first. Many were passing on into their next lives, leaving behind mourning family members, Fah only able to watch their mourning and turning to her own sister, wondering when she to would leave. Fearing for the worst, she took to her sisters side, refusing to leave, sleep, eat or function until she became better. However, Aash only slid deeper into her sickness, her pale skin almost transparent with illness, her stunning blue eyes dulling everyday to a grey slate. Their mother wept at the fate of her daughters, knowing that in losing one, she would lose them both. She begged on her knees, every night at the forest's edge, to the god that lived in the forest. She begged him to save her daughters, that they were the only thing in this world that she had to live for, the only thing in this world that was good and pure to her.

Fah, unable to lose her family, approached the forest edge herself one night, clutching tight to her ravens totem. She tired to see the right path, to find what she was supposed to do, believing that her sister had held on the longest out of any of the sick tribe members for a reason. She too got to her knees, though she did not beg. She asked him for knowledge, spoke with him as though he were a friend, because to her, he had always been. Throughout her childhood, she spent many a day at the forest edge, talking to the god that never answered back, telling him the wonders of her world and the hopes she had for her family. She had never expected a response, but on that night, she demanded one. She took to her knees and placed her totem to the ground, before standing and demanding the knowledge she needed. No words were spoken, just a strong gust of wind, rolling her totem past the tree line, before falling silent once again. Taking that as her sign, she went to Aash and whispered her goodbyes, telling her that she was going to find the god, that she was going to demand that he heal her. Aash, having always been the strong one, the one to protect her, gave one last attempt at protecting her sister. She begged her not to go, knowing that the tribe would execute her for a sin so great to their beliefs. But Fah had to go, leaving in the night whilst they slept.

She roamed the forest for a full day, and found nothing of any sort, not even a forest animal. The forest was quiet and dark, no bird song to greet the day, no scurry of a squirrel, or the elegant sighting of a deer- it was as though the forest was holding it's breath. She was lost, afraid that her sister had passed on without her and that she was already too late. It was only at the sighting of a raven, it's croaking cries adding to her ominous feelings, did she have a tingle of hope. She followed the raven, what she believed to be a representation of herself, and came to a small clearing. It landed on the ground, waiting for her to come closer. Next to it, lay a wolf. The two greeted each other as though they were friends, laying beside one another without a care of the world around them. Fah knew what they were telling her, she had taken her journey alone, when what she needed was her sister.

It took a full nights journey before Fah was able to return home, finding her sister, thankfully, still alive. Fah told her sister the stories of the forest, that the raven had lead her to her path and showed her what she needed to do. Even in her agony of worry for her sister, Fah had been excited to have received a vision. She packed another bag and pleaded with her sister to find the strength to join her in the forest, that they didn't have to go far.
