Eventides family lived in Canterlot and that's where she grew up. Her parents and sister always tried to fit in with the elite and upperclass unicorns despite being bat ponies themselves. It had took a while but soon they fit in like a glove.... all except Eventide.... who spent her time collecting plants and rocks to try out runes and potions she read about in books that came from the local libraries. 

Her parents always tried to get Eventide to behave more like her sister but she was having none of it and when she got her cutiemark in potions and runes there was nothing her parents could do but watch as she packed her bags and moved out.

Eventide now spends her time traveling around equestria, selling her potions to make a living. All she carries is her saddlebags, her cloak, hat, and a staff that carries a very powerful stone.... she just hasn't figured out what said stone does. 

She does own some property by the edge of a forest but she hardly ever goes there, only when she can't make enough for a night at the inn, family members are visiting, or she just wishes to relax for a bit.

Eventide would gladly trade her wings in for a horn and one of her main goals is a potion/rune that would swap them out. 

Eventide does what she wants when she wants, fueled by an endless curiosity of the wold she often gets herself and others into trouble in her need to investigate all things good and bad.
