Loyal, Calm, Insecure, Deceitful

Sakuya is a no-nonsense type of person who completes her work with a high level of perfectionism. As long as she’s adequately paid, she will carry out any request to the best of her abilities. Her faithfulness to her employer lasts until their money runs out. After that, anything is fair game to her. She won’t hesitate to backstab a previous employer, especially if they slighted her somehow.

Although Sakuya usually keeps her emotions in check, she also knows how to use them to manipulate others to her advantage. For example, she may pretend to be weak when facing an enemy to get them to lower their guard, which allows her to go in for the kill. The only things she can’t control are her insecurities. Sometimes she thinks her skills aren’t enough, that her small size limits her, or that she’ll never be truly happy. For now, all she can do is ignore her worries and move on.

BACKSTORY

Sakuya was born in a small village to a family of swordsmiths. This was the start of her love for swords and their beauty. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to learn much of the trade before her village was raided by bandits. She had snuck out to practice with her sword that night, and then she returned to a terrible sight. Her home, her family, everything was lost to a fire. As distraught as she was, she had to look for work if she was to survive.

Not too long after she left her village, she was noticed by an older nobleman. He decided to take her in as he had a son around the same age as her. Sakuya wasn’t sure how to feel about the sudden opportunity, but she figured she had nothing to lose. She was trained by one of the bodyguards in order to become the nobleman’s son’s personal protector. The son was more comfortable around her and they got along well, though she pitied his stressful position.

Over time, the son became more and more rebellious. Instead of studying, he’d always be out wasting his money on alcohol and women. Sakuya tried to get him back on track, but he wouldn’t listen to her. She became even more desperate when the head of the family passed away, knowing that the fate of the family rested on him. When she approached him more firmly, he lashed out back at her, going on about how he only kept her around because she was a pretty face, how she couldn’t possibly protect him. That was it for her. She put on a fragile facade to draw him closer to her, then turned things around. She left him tied up in an embarrassing position before she left him and the house for good. 

While working for the noble family, she became acquainted with another bodyguard, Evren. At first she couldn’t take him seriously due to his arrogant, talkative nature. However, she started to respect him after seeing how hard-working and skillful he was. As such, she let him know she was leaving after her confrontation. He decided to join her since there was no more money left there anyways. Together, they are wandering mercenaries traveling to find work.
