Background
Once upon a time, a distant civilisation faced imminent destruction, their World Tree, Irminsul, wavered, yet they were smart people. They used their technological advancements and an offering of their World Tree, its very core, akin to a seed that carried Her power to fuel a perpetual flying machine. They amassed resources, ground, water, whatever they could manage and built it around the machine, slowly forming a flying fortress that would defy both the powers of the earth and the Abyss that threatened to swallow it.
They were prideful of their achievement and begun to look down on those who still struggled against the Abyss, for either not being smart enough, or deliberately choosing to not stray from earth. Irminsul herself regrew into a new being and ruled as deity alongside the human rulers, circulating the power of the fortress and keeping it afloat.
How long her powers will last, no legend would be able to tell.
