Something of an odd duck amongst the likes of Marigold in her mild manner, her patience and sociability prove useful in business dealings and deescalation. But despite her outwardly sweet appearance, she’s very capable and dangerous with a weapon, with a particular proclivity for knives and armed close quarters combat. Stubborn to her core, she rarely turns down a challenge in the interest of proving herself just as able as her associates. In her free time, her hobbies include oil painting and sketching, botany, reading, and bird watching.
Evelyn Sweeney, for all intents and purposes, was a fairly normal girl in her youth. Of Irish descent, her family were farmers before they moved to St. Louis, seeking a change of pace. But when her parents fell into sudden, debilitating debt, she resorted to crime to support them when a man, having heard about her situation, convinced her to join up with a small-time gang with the promise of good pay.
Only two years into her career of desperation, Evelyn’s father succumbed to tuberculosis, and her mother followed soon after, the husband’s death proving too much for the widow. Rife with regret and grief, Evelyn continues on with her bootlegging work, feeling as if she is too deeply entangled now to escape and live the normal life she thought she would have when she was young. While she puts up an upbeat, glass-half-full front, an oppressive sense of sorrow and discontent stews beneath the surface.
