Pitch is a grouchy loner who's skilled at keeping to himself. He's a problem solver and extremely observant, and this makes him a good mediator in most situations he engages with. He'd rather stay out of conflict, but his adaptability and resourcefulness comes in handy when he does decide to get involved. He pretends he doesn't care- but he's got a heart too big for himself and his refusal to help is usually followed with a sigh before he shows up anyways without a word.
His actions speak much louder than his grouchy attitude.
He doesn't like being the center of attention, but has a great potential for leadership and confidence when he is pushed into that role and when he feels like it is his place to do so.
- Despite living on the seaside, he's not the greatest at fishing. He'd rather hunt on land, which the local hills and forest thankfully provide.
- He has an above average sense of smell and tracking ability, due to spending so much time alone and relying on it heavily. In contrast, his eyesight lightly suffers and he can't really see things that are far away well.
Pitch was born a loner, a single kit to his mother- a kittypet who was abandoned by her twolegs. Brought into the world and raised behind a dumpster- his start was never glamorous and every day was a fight for survival. His mother taught him only the basics, and showed him the bare minimum of affection- too afraid to get attached to this kit after losing many in the past. She was never downright cruel to him, but he was taught early that the world was a harsh place and that he should never truly let down his guard. He was abandoned as soon as he was old enough to do the bare minimum of hunting for himself, and he never saw his mother again.
He learned everything he knows through trial, and error, and from learning from other cats.....at a distance. He's a fast learner and great at observing and piecing things together as a problem solver. He did however, make plenty of mistakes and earned plenty of scars to speak for them. While he travelled searching for food and shelter, he only ever really dreamed of finding somewhere he could feel safe...once in a while, at least. He never sought for company or other cats or being a twoleg pet- he just didn't want to fight other cats for his every meal or sleep out in the open or have to cross thunderpaths every day to get by.
Eventually, his travels led him to the shore, near lesser-used twoleg vacation homes and an old abandoned beach and the hillock areas nearby. Since the twolegs there were very transient- no other cats were really around save for the occasional kittypets, and it made for a comfortable place to try to hide for at least some time.
He however, met Swanwhisker- an exiled old medicine cat from nearby Fernclan, who told him of a prophecy issued to her by starclan, demanding his presence. While at first reluctant, he eventually reached out to Starclan at her behest, and they came to him in his dreams, guiding him through their wishes- to save the clans who had fallen to their own traditions. And proclaiming him the new- and first leader of a new clan...Reefclan. Something he was definitely not prepared for- but accepted under the will to do good and help cats he had never met, and save them from a fate he didn't yet understand.
The first member of his clan (beyond Swanwhisker herself) was Aquagold, and the tiny Fishkit when he was thrown out and abandoned by twolegs before being rescued by the other clan members. Other cats soon began to join them, whether it was through starclan's luck- Pitchstar's determination, or Aquagold's charisma. The first new member was the rogue Runner- eventually Runningroar, who stole Pitchstar's meal and proceeded to insist on joining the budding clan as she sought safety and family.
It wasn't long after her joining that they rescued the injured Nightpaw, and his accomplice Inkpaw who fled from the other clans. Sparking a deep worry for Pitchstar of the clans discovering their presence and attemtping an attack on the clan or some other aggression. Despite this, he assisted the apprentices regardless and allowed them to stay in the camp.

Aquagold was a kittypet- one born and living on a twoleg water-nest [boat] where she learned to fish and swim thanks to her mother. She met Pitch when on land while the boat was being repaired. Pitch was at first annoyed-if-sympathetic for her kittypet lifestyle but she was passionately naiive and kind, insisting on helping him even when he tried to turn her away. Her determination and willingness to give up her home for the sake of starclan's prophecy touched his heart and he embraced her as a clanmate and friend. She's still got that kittypet naivety but he tries to teach her how to fend for herself and serve her clan as well as she wishes to.
"That old bat? She's smart as they come but starclan does she talk a lot. Wouldn't trade her for the world though."
Swanwhisker was the clan's first imprompteu medicine cat, and an exile from Fernclan who received the vision from Starclan that led Pitchstar to becoming a leader in the first place. He looks to her when first learning how to lead a clan- something foreign to him, and she's happy to share her wisdom and insight as an advisor.
She does tend to mother and nag him, often annoying him in the process- but he appreciates and honors her words regardless.
"I'm glad the kit doesn't remember how he ended up with us. It's a shame what they did to him. But he's a fighter and he'll make a strong warrior someday."
Fishkit was thrown out in a box as a newborn after his kittypet mother's two-legs tried to get rid of him. Pitch and Aquagold rescued him on behalf of the distraught mother cat-who was unable to do so herself due to being trappedi nside by her two-legs. The two were able to care for him with Swanwhisker's help and guidance and he became the first kit and apprentice of Reefclan.
"She's a pain in the paws...but she's always there when I need her and she really cares about the clan. I just wish she'd stop picking fights over her ego"
Runningroar is a passionate- but proud rogue who was one of the early members of the clan. Pitchstar initially found her annoying-though not threatening, and while the two bicker a lot, ultimately they came to see each other as earnest clanmates. He's often reeling in her temper before she gets into trouble, but he knows he can always trust her in the end to do what she can for the other cats of the clan. The two have a playful rivalry because Pitchstar's sense of smell makes him pretty adept at finding the sneaky rogue who's used to hiding from anyone else.
