God of the Between, Merritt is an ....interesting creature. Created by a pantheon that no longer exists, he nevertheless continues in his role as the god of the between. When a relative lies on the door between life and death, you might toss him a prayer to choose for them either way. Travellers at Crossroads might ask for his favour.
But his main job over the years has become guardian. An empty pantheon, a seat of power that lies open.
Many creatures have come calling over the years to Merritt's realm(s?) to try and sneak through the gaps, to take that power for their own.
So far Merritt has eaten each and every one.
But Merritt doesn't want to claim the throne, that's not his. His creators are long gone, but Merritt remains hopeful that they will one day return.
(or perhaps he's just waiting for the right new god.)
