Personality

In  demeanour, Sunflower/Gloria is a pensive sort of girl who will likely  be considered a stereotypical 'goth' by most, and may be thought of as  mysterious. She also likes to appear “different” and stand out, despite  being so introverted (she is not a shy person, but just more quiet).  These first impressions are true to the way she actually is; however,  one thing others will usually not perceive as a first impression is that  she actually has very much energy, especially emotionally, though she  would rather show it in her moods and dark, brooding attitude than in  actions or a loud, persuasive voice. Truly, Gloria is a very emotional  girl, and she appears to be always yearning for something, like Leroy,  though she is not exactly wistful as he is. Doesn't often control her  feelings because she sees no need to, though it is possible for her to  accomplish such a task when she does try. Another aspect of her  personality which may be evident either to perceptive people upon first  meeting her or by slightly closer friends, is the fact that she is very  showy and though doesn't possess charismatic confidence like Basil or  Mother Orchid, is quite self-assured. However, she still somewhat  secretly cares about others' opinions of her. Has many ideas that she  wishes to spread, but doesn't feel the need to make the effort, except  for those for whom she deeply cares (or deeply hates). Doesn't have much  of a sense of humour and takes most things seriously, though in a  manner that some people may ironically consider silly or overly  dramatic. May be a little ambitious. Upon letting her energy show  completely, she appears altogether transformed. The acknowledged queen  of Waltz.

History

The  Starr twins were born in May of 1967 to a rather ordinary newly-wed  couple, in St. Augustine, Florida, in the United States of America. From  birth, there was a noticeable difference in these near identical  sisters; little Susan Francine was always loud, passionate, and very  sweet, while Gloria Lara wasn't too fond of company and usually chose to  keep her distance. However, he two were extremely close; though they  fought over silly things often, they shared with one another and were  caring toward each other. Susan, later often preferring the nickname  Suzie, acted as the elder sister most of the time, keeping Gloria out of  danger. For her part, Gloria was the more observant of the two, often  giving advice to her sibling on how to better achieve something or  explaining how something worked.

From early ages,  the two both had a noticeable interest in music (possibly inherited from  their uncle who had been a decently famed singer in his youth), both  having joined little clubs in their elementary school after school hours  in order to practice. Additionally they both excelled at Music, always  getting higher grades that in any other subject Suzie mainly liked to  drum on things and would occasionally beatbox, preferring music with a  big percussive beat. Gloria liked this sort of music as well, but she  enjoyed softer and more emotional songs, mainly with the piano and other  similar instruments. In addition they both had decent singing voices.

During this period, the two were extremely close with one another.  They'd have a lot of friendly competition, which encouraged them to do  better. In the future, this is how it would be for many of their skills  and passions, and started here. For Gloria especially, this was an  outlet for her emotions, which she bottled up more often than her sister  did, and that she felt very deeply. Additionally Gloria was rather  introverted, and though she wasn't too anxious around them, she did not  enjoy talking to the other children much; thus, her sister was her best  friend and company most of the time, despite their small quarrels.

However, in 1978, once middle school began for them, things got a bit  more complicated. Suzie the extrovert began to make a ton of friends,  and though she still reserved time especially for her sister and for  music, (in fact, she still spent more time with her sister and precious  drums more than with anything or anyone else), Gloria began to feel  lonely with her new time deficit. She too made a couple friends, but  didn't really feel comfortable getting close with anyone; she was always  holding out for Suzie, and wanting to make herself available whenever  her sister wanted to spend time (this was rather arbitrary, though, as  Susan was a very spontaneous person and could never keep to a schedule  or plan.) This took a toll on her mental state and she began to feel  more dour, developing a somewhat bitter (though not mean) personality,  and often kept a good difference from other kids while at the same time,  desperately wanting more company.

Due to their  extraordinary talents for music and singing, the Starr twins were rather  popular in school. Often they were invited to many parties; Gloria  would go to them if Suzie did, though she was not a party person and  never truly enjoyed herself, thus always feeling exhausted, bitter,  overwhelmed, lonely and frustrated during them and when she arrived  home. Thus she and Suzie began to get in more fights, due to her sister  not truly understanding her situation.

Deeper troubles came in 1981; the twins' father, working for a stock  company, suddenly lost most of his stock and was fired. Therefore, the  small family could not continue to live in the expensive house they had,  and had to move out of St. Augustine into a cheaper house in the big  city of Miami. The girls took this especially hard, having grown up in  St. Augustine and truly loving their town; in the case of Susan, she was  distraught that she'd have to move away from her close friends, while  for Gloria, she was emotionally attached to her old home; however, she  was a little bit hopeful that perhaps, having to start all over  socially, Suzie would make more time for her, though she felt a little  bad about this and couldn't imagine what would happen if her sister  found out.

Though Gloria was indeed observant and  better at planning than her sister, Susan was the more practical of the  two, and more determined and strong-willed; thus, seeing the huge loss  of money and how much closer her family was coming to total poverty, she  came up with the idea of truly starting a band with her sister, and  getting a head start on a career in music, performing often to raise  more money. Elated, Gloria happily obliged, and at 14 years old, the  sisters began their duo, which they titled “StarrCrossed”, based on the  phrase, their name, and the constellation Gemini, symbolising their  twinship. StarrCrossed's music was typically pop at this point, with a  very slight disco beat thanks to this having been the sisters' favourite  genre of music during the 70s. With time their music became a bit more  rock, thanks to Suzie, and goth, thanks to Gloria, thus giving their  music its own unique sound. Primarily they covered many songs from their  childhood, but occasionally would write new ones (both enjoyed coming  up with lyrics and they often collaborated to pen their melodies.),  however, at its earliest stages, the music produced by the girls was  mostly vocal.

Immediately their duo was a hit;  everyone loved to see them perform, and they began to see the fruits of  their apparently successful scheme. Eventually they had made enough  money to buy good instruments, Suzie purchasing a drum-set which became  her prized possession, and Gloria saving up for a small keyboard (she  had let her sister spend most of the money due to the piano being her  main skill, an instrument the family already had and had managed to  keep). With the purchase of new instruments, their success and fame were  only driven.

However, all this pressure was not  good for the young sisters, least of all Gloria. Her parents, though  thankful for heir daughters' talents enabling the family to be better  off, they were often at their wits end and got in fights with their  children, often berating Gloria for getting emotional, moody or  depressed, which took a toll indeed on her well being and only worsened  the problems her parents saw developing. Additionally, the pressure in  high school of such difficult studies caused her to grow hopeless on  occasion; Suzie handled it better and often gave her sister advice, but  did not seem to understand when she could not grasp a concept. Thus by  the time they graduated, Suzie was a straight A student while Gloria's  grades were significantly worse, this humiliating her and causing her to  finally develop a great phobia of inadequacy. She sometimes began  acting like an entirely different person just to stand out more and make  more friends, which Suzie did not seem to like, the latter's motto  always being to be true to oneself. They fought on this often, but still  hung on to their relationship and continued to make popular music.

Also around the time of their graduation, in 1984, Star-Crossed  released its second album (their first being from when they were much  younger and pre-instrument). This was their major breakthrough; the  sales skyrocketed, and they were praised as being popular at such an  early age. Gloria was able to afford a keyboard, further helping them.  They also began to go on tour, eventually releasing a few more albums  and travelling to many parts of the world. (their family also received  many donations due to the sisters' outspoken nature on poverty and their  sadness over what had happened to them and others in similar  situations).

While  Suzie did not seem to enjoy travelling much, except to spread their  fame, Gloria loved it immensely, always having had an interest in  different nations and their cultures/music. One day in 1986, while on  tour in Europe, Gloria decided to visit a museum in Paris, having  recently gotten in a somewhat major fight with her sister, and feeling  distraught and that she must take a break.

While  at the museum, the young woman came across an artefact which intrigued  her personally; the diary of a noblewoman who had lived during the  French Revolution. According to what she could understand from on the  opened page under the glass and the few pages that were separated from  the book's main body, though popular, the woman in the story was rather  ill-tempered and without close friends, feeling constantly rejected and  betrayed by everyone. Though always wishing she could spend more time  with her husband and mother, the diary's author fought with them often  due to her (and the others') selfish and demanding natures, causing her a  great deal of sadness. Eventually, she realised that if she humbled  herself and repented of her selfish ways, perhaps she could mend the  broken relationships; however, she was caught and beheaded before she  could ever apologise or have a second chance.

Gloria immediately fell in love with the tragic and romance of the tale,  and related to it quite well. This inspired her to immediately go and  apologise to her sister, which managed to greatly help their  relationship and push them closer. Additionally, Gloria penned a song  called “A Tale of Apology” inspired by the story she had read and her  feelings toward her sister, which became StarCrossed's greatest hit.

However, over the next several months, Gloria began to feel a bit  strange … she was now, due to all the pressure and her growing anxiety,  falling victim to a fear that Suzie would eventually leave her, that she  was the weak half of the band, that she was not good enough for her  sister. This was heavily brought on from the growing pressures of fame  worsening her anxieties (which was never diagnosed, another problem for  Gloria as she didn't feel validated in her emotions) and by the  continual fighting brought on by this, and how the sisters' desires  changed as they got older and they both wanted to take their band in  different directions She began to become depressed, and stopped  pretending to be who she was not, though only to please Susan. She also  began to do everything she could to make her sister happy, and gave in  to her every whim, an unhealthy situation for both of them.

Though Suzie began to grow more selfish, she also became uncomfortable  around Gloria due to what seemed to plague her more quiet sister. Gloria  seemed to not share as much with her sister due to being afraid to be  herself, in a different way, and not wishing to displease her. Suzie's  uncomfortable feelings only grew worse, and she evidently felt as if she  must somehow pay back everything Gloria had done for her.

One day, while on tour in the very busy city of Tokyo, the sisters are  attempting to cross a very busy road, the Shibuya. Not paying attention  to her surroundings, as per usual, Gloria had begun to cross he busy  road without looking. Suddenly a car came hurtling down the way; in a  desperate attempt to save her sister from danger, Suzie leapt in front  of the vehicle, pushing Gloria out of the way. The spectacle caused most  of the oncoming cars to slam their brakes for the falling Gloria, but  it was not in time to save Suzie, who was hit by the car as Gloria  witnessed everything.

Immediately the onlookers  rushed Suzie to the nearest hospital. Her sister, shell-shocked to the  point of temporarily paralysis, continued to watch in horror. She was  dragged out of the road and asked if she knew the girl who had been hit,  but Gloria was unable to speak or answer, and was taken to a different  location where they would attempt to help her get over the shock. While  there, she sank deeper and deeper into darkness, depression and horror.

Over the next few days, Gloria slowly recovered, though she had not  heard from Suzie since the accident, she began to plummet into a  terrible mental state, and worry constantly about her sister, preventing  her from resting or sleeping. She began to develop a paranoia as well.

She was eventually released from the institution and immediately  followed directions to go see her sister. Though apparently her ribs  were smashed open and she would have to undergo some surgeries, Suzie  seemed as if she would make a decent recovery. The injury dealt a great  financial problem to the two, however, their cushion of donations and  money helped to pay. Gloria did not even care about this, and stayed by  her sister's side for the entire time she was recovering. Though Suzie  frequently asked about the money, Gloria seemed dismissive, which caused  the beginning of a gap to grow between their relationship from that  point on, sparked also from their constant quarreling and Suzie's  apprehension over her sister's strange recent behaviour.

In the following year, though Suzie had miraculously made a near  complete recovery, Gloria had become only a shell of her former self.  She'd developed PTSD from the event (though Suzie had seemed to have  moved on rather easily and forgotten about it), and felt as if it were  her fault that the whole event had happened. She began to constantly  fear even more that she would be left alone, and began to hate herself  over what had happened.

Uninspired, weak,  emotional and even lonely, Gloria finally made a very difficult  decision; StarrCrossed was ruining their life. Sure, it had practically,  materially helped the Starrs, but emotionally and personally, she  thought they'd be much better off without it. Suzie could continue if  she wanted to, but Gloria was through. In late 1986, after a long and  exhausting concert, she put away her keyboard for the last time. Fearing  for how her sister would take it, but always having admired her strong,  honest and brave nature, Gloria decided to tell Suzie the news.

Unfortunately her fears were realised; Suzie was furious. Crying for  the first time since childhood, and yelling at her sister, she  questioned how Gloria could even conceive of such a dastardly idea.  Gloria, sorrowful at her precious friend's distraught reaction, opened  up, explaining everything she had been feeling. The conversation lasted  for hours, Suzie trying to deny Gloria's fears, saying she would never  leave her, they'd been through everything together, and why would she  turn around to even think of leaving Suzie? Frustrated by this, and on  the verge of a total mental breakdown, Gloria suddenly left the room.  She did not mean this as a signal that she was leaving StarrCrossed; she  wanted more to think it over later, but Suzie took it as a sign that  she was completely gone, and yelled as she left, that “if StarrCrossed  was bad for them, it was Gloria's fault, and that their relationship was  shot”.

Again heartbroken at the  end of her sister's cutting words, Gloria ran away, unable to think, not  paying attention to her surroundings, not looking where she was going,  getting totally lost. She fled into some woods, and there had a rather  mystical experience. Reality began to decay around her as she ran, and  before her very eyes appeared a strange figure; an extremely terrifying,  grotesque woman, invoking the fear of a great angelic spirit.  Horrified, Gloria began to flee from the spirit, but it appeared to be  running after her, wanting her to wait. Turning around to bargain with  the ghost, it beckoned for her to follow. Greatly afraid, but seeing the  world as nothing but darkness and terrified at her surroundings, she  follows the ghost until they reach a greatly illuminated room, a Garden  filled with the most beautiful trees and flowers the girl had ever seen.  Entranced, she attempts to enter the room; however, as soon as she  does, the girl comes to, realising in a panic that she has just taken a  step off a cliff. She fell, being cut on many sharp rocks; reaching the  bottom, she was losing a great amount of blood, and it was nighttime;  she had no idea where she was. She could have reached a hospital, but  was too despaired to do it, wanting only to die.

At once, Gloria noticed that she had tripped on a piece of rope, now  wrapped around her leg. She suddenly got an idea, but was unsure of  whether or not to take the change, whether or not it was truly her time.  For the whole night she stayed awake, arguing with her emotions, trying  to convince herself not to do it, that she knew better. However, she  could not help but remember everything; her life, her parents and how  they had berated her, her sister's accident and final words, the  under-appreciation she had felt her whole life, he tale of the French  noblewoman, the Tale of Apology … so much had happened, too much. She  could not hold on any longer. In the early hours of the morning right  before dawn, Gloria Starr climbed up the side of the cliff, tied one end  of the rope to a jagged rock, the other around her neck, and leapt,  eventually suffocating. Her sister was right, it had been her fault, all  her fault. She was only ever a burden; this was the day she'd give  Suzie her final gift of appreciation for all she had ever done, all the  sisters had been through.

However, as she  went, Gloria felt a tug at her hand, at her hair, and a woman's voice  whisper in her ears … she denied it, her final act, but she know; her  story had not come to an end, not yet ...

In the Garden:
Gloria  was destined by New Eden to be killed in the car crash. However, when  Suzie saved her, it messed everything up; New Eden's "gate" had been  "opened" to Gloria, but because she had not died  yet, the gate remained  open for far too long, and began to merge with the current world;  additionally other sentient beings, mostly spirits, slipped through the  gate, acting as a stopper in the gate and keeping the timelines bridged  together. One of these ghosts was the vengeful woman who is now  continually possessing Gloria. Not native to New Eden, the ghost somehow  remained trapped on Earth and is awaiting the moment to re-enact her  final plans ... but what's special about Gloria/Sunflower? Is anyone   else involved? Who is this woman, and what are her  goals?

Relationships: -Gets along decently with Wisteria, though she finds something about the latter to be unsettling.
-Finds Rosalisa to be too nosy, but otherwise gets on well with her.
-Understands Amaryllis well and the two are good friends, though at first they both think each other strange.
-Very  close with Black-Eyed Susan/Suzie, though the two have continual  trouble forgiving each other for the last moment of their lives
-Becomes good friends with Leroy/Erable, though at first he doesn't like her very much.
-Because  Suzie is, she is decently friends with Basil, Tsubaki and Amanita,  getting along the best with Amanita out of the three.

Fun Facts:

-while  Suzie's main musical inspiration was Madonna (though they played at the  same time, she was always a fan of Madonna), Gloria's was Siouxsie  Sioux.

-Sometimes she dresses up as a southern belle, loving an 1800s aesthetic and anything vintage.

-Though  she often sings in a midrange voice or one deeper than her sister,  Gloria has naturally high pitched and breathy voice as opposed to  Suzie's loud, clear sound.

-She hates the story Alice In Wonderland, as it has given her nightmares since childhood.

-StarrCrossed  still performs in the modern timeline, but discreetly and in disguise,  because they would be recognised too easily. However, music is a passion  the girls simply cannot give up.

-Considers St. Augustine as her home more than Miami

-Her favourite place she visited on tour is France
.

-Very adamantly, her favourite colour is gold. She has somehow also amassed a big collection of golden jewelry.

Confusing details:
Kind  of like Amaryllis, she has deep rope burns and gashes on her throat  from the sharp rocks and the hanging. She usually wears that cravat to  cover it up, but don't draw her without  it, and bonus points if you  draw her bleeding/dripping blood from beneath it. >:3
-Her  head does bleed, but only from her left (our right) side, due to the big sunflower growing there.
-All of the sunflower petals on her head, including those hanging lower, are from the same centre.
-The  leaves/petals (NOT WINGS) extending from his back (not the ones around  his neck, as those extend from his coat) are translucent and very, very  light/delicate.
-Her  kravat is made of silky material, but not petals, so it's different from Amaryllis'
-Yes, that's black ombre.
-Her  eyes are very light hazel, and basically yellow, and she is wearing  colourful makeup, especially purple eyeshadow and liner.
-DON'T FORGET THE FRECKLES
-She has yellow gloves on under the pink fingerless gloves.
