General

Zoey Hakton is a main character in The Story, introduced in Season 3. She serves as the moody goth character and is Zack's sister. Despite being a member of the Hakton family, she is not a Hacker and refuses to participate in any of his shenanigans... mainly because she can't be bothered.

Personality

Zoey is your typical, rather cliché goth character. She is very moody and often can't be bothered to do much of anything. She spends her time scrolling through Twitter and various other sites on her phone, ignoring anyone who tries to talk to her. When she does actually participate in things, she acts rather bored and wishes she was doing something else. She also exhibits a more tomboy-esque personality, not afraid of being crass and physical if she needs to, something that contrasts with more feminine personalities like Amber or Sarah. While she may share an abrasive side like Sarah, the two have different ways of dealing with things. There are times where her personality can be rather inconsistent and she's seen with a more sunny disposition every now and again. While obviously just a fault of my own writing, an explanation was given to cover this. She's actually a happier person deep down, but is forced to act dark and moody to hide her true feelings.

Appearance

Zoey is a girl of average height and slender build with black eyes and long black hair that extends down her back. Unlike Zack, her eyes are not simple and beady. Her outfit in the novel is identical to Zack's, consisting of a yellow t-shirt with sky blue hems, blue shorts, and black shoes.

Her redesign for modern artwork consists of some kind of black shirt with long sleeves that are striped yellow and black to include her original yellow color along with black jeans and black boots. She could be drawn wearing accessories like a choker, bracelets, or earrings in more of a gothic style, though nothing extreme as she would keep it simple.

History

Unlike most characters in The Story that are based off of actual people, Zoey was an entirely original character created by the real-life Zack. When I was experimenting with new characters to add for Season 3, he suggested I make him a sister. I liked the idea of him having some sort of counterpart and doodled a rough design of her along with several other ideas for new characters. While a few of these new characters were added at the very beginning of the Season, Zoey was the only one to stick around until the end. Early drawings have her with shorter, shoulder-length hair, but eventually I changed her design to give her longer hair to further contrast with Zack.

In the novel, she stuck around for all of Season 3 but there were times where she simply didn't appear for long periods. This was because I always struggled juggling too many characters (a good example being all the dogs in Season 2) and would often forget she existed. While she periodically appeared in Season 4, it wasn't anything noteworthy. She was later removed for Season 5 because I felt she didn't really contribute anything meaningful to the novel as she was, instead opting to introduce characters such as Kotaro and Alex who had a bit more personality and could have better chemistry with the others.

It's also worth noting that, when Dennis was introduced, she seemed to develop a distaste for him. It's never explained why, but the two always find themselves fighting or arguing whenever they interact. In fact, it's possible that he's the reason she opted to remove herself for most of the chapters in Season 4.
