Finch is typically a rather cheerful and forgiving person. Though of course, there are times where he's just irritable. He'll sometimes try to encourage people, even if there is no reason to or any reasoning to back up what comes out of his mouth.

When it comes to people he loves, he's rather open about giving and receiving affection, though he'll be embarrassed about it. However, he is sometimes dense and ignorant to affection being shown to him. There may be some times when he would do something bold without realizing it and then just get embarrassed afterward.

He is sometimes afraid to voice his thoughts, not wanting to hurt anyone or cause their opinion of him to sour. When he upsets someone, directly or indirectly, he might panic a bit and apologize repeatedly, typically lost at how to fix it.

• He will believe something fortunes until they're proven false. Fortune cookies, fortune tellers, horoscopes... until they're proven wrong, Finch thinks that they have the possibility of being true.
• He doesn't watch television. He doesn't own a T.V. because he doesn't see the need for one.
• He was born and raised in England until he was 15 and was homeschooled. His family moved to America near the end of what became his sophomore year in the U.S. He still retains his accent.
• Finch is very self-conscious about his covered eye. He doesn't show it to anyone unless he truly trusts them and even then, he may not show them because he's afraid that it'd scare them off or that they wouldn't accept him because of it.

Background

When he was young, his father was like a magician to him. Finch would always watch him make something out of seemingly nothing. And he wanted to be able to do it too. Finch would never ask his father how to do the 'magic' because "a magician never reveals his secrets', but he would spend every performance watching and trying to learn how his father does it. One day, Finch's dad decided to let his son in on the secret. Their family, on Finch's dad's side, is from a long line of witches and warlocks that dabble in black magic. His father was skilled in manipulating particles in the air. More specifically, his specialty was bringing the particles together to make tangible objects, making things out of thin air. He tried to train Finch in this, thinking that Finch would have a similar power. This ultimately failed. Finch could not learn to use what was in the air, but once after a long day of unsuccessful training, Finch sat in a shaded area and seemed to disappear into it. It wasn't because of lighting... He really just melted into the shadow. That was it! Finch's father decided that this was Finch's ability... Shadows... Shadow manipulation? Hiding in the shadows? There was no way of knowing yet, so despite their tiredness of trying to use magic all day, his father decided to start Finch's training in shadows immediately. They learned that Finch had power over shadows, mostly manipulation. He can control them and make them into tangible objects, the second part probably being part of what he inherited from his father. He trained daily up until recently, when his father decided that it was time for Finch to go into the real world and train himself, rather than have Finch kept up in their house for training. Now, Finch lives by himself, practicing when he's alone.

Once, when Finch was practicing with his shadows, he lost control. One of the shadows hardened and exploded into sharp shards. Several of the shards pierced one of his eyes, blinding him in that eye. It bled excessively and Finch was in so much pain that he couldn't stop the rest of the shadows. A shadows wrapped itself around his arm like a snake and started sinking in. He managed to shake it off, but it had already started injecting itself into his arm. It was going to get into his bloodstream, but it was stopped before it could. It did, however, cut through the skin and even a bit of the bone. Finch can no longer use his right eye and keeps it covered because of how much damage the shadows did to his iris and sclera. He can use his left arm and most of the wounds healed, but there is one that didn't... He now has a long scar running up his forearm. He covers it up because it's a painful reminder of how powerless he was.
