"W - what will happen to you? Your horn... Broke off inside that - that thing!" Owen wheezed, large chest mimicking the tides of a great sea. Never had she been more grateful for the soft grass around her shrine. "I'll retire." The girl in front of her pursed her brows. "R - retire?" She tilted her head at the little human in front of her. "Yes. My duties as protector of this shrine are over. I've done my job well for the past century. Soon I shall rejoin the others." "Join who?" Owen smiled. "The ones I left behind to serve you."

.

"Welcome back to Sihde, Owen." The Mother Tree was smiling. That was a good sign. "I am glad to see all my sisters again, but I am not so happy with the circumstances of it." Mother Tree just looked at her fondly, weeping willow locks pooling around her. "I understand, but you have done well. Protecting the child from the Questing Spawn was a worthy feat." But what did it cost, to give up her place as a Guardian? To give up her identity? She had been a guardian for so long...

The Mother Tree gently brushed her large, tangling branches against her fur. "Don't be too upset, dear. All Guardians must return one day." That was fair. Soon she would rejoin those who tended the glowing forest of Sidhe. To be with the others.

.

Rings of gold decorated her, ornamental holly's adorned her head and the embers of life glowed brightly. She had the marks of a True Guardian. One who gives up a piece of themselves to save a life in danger. As Owen breathed life back inside of a young sapling, surrounded by her sisters, she couldn't help but wonder. What came next? Who was she now?
