Dashtu

Sometimes they were always a robot. Sometimes they begged Sinclair to make them into a robot so their immortal boyfriend wouldn't have to lose them. Either way they end up a robot with a soft-cheeked and softer-hearted boyfriend.

Originally-a-robot version of Dashtu was built as a prototype for a "home companion" robot. Specifically, intended to be a housespouse, who cooks, cleans, rears children, and is sexually capable. Dashtu's programming failed, however, when they were unable to blindly love an owner. When tested with an owner being cruel and berating them, they did not respond with affection. Prior to being dismantled and recycled into a newer model, they escaped and went for the warmest place closely available when it began to snow. They ended up stowing in the engine room of a ship, a travelling restaurant, with a very eager and very kind chef -- Naoki Che. Naoki adopted Dashtu to his crew as a general helping hand and Dashtu's inherent affection for their owner became something more... legitimate, after Naoki made a strong effort to help Dashtu break their limiting programming.

Originally-Human Dashtu probably has a dependent personality disorder, with a constant anxiety of being left alone. They latched onto Naoki, who has enough love and affection for several thousand people at once, and who has been as adamant about seeing if Dashtu is actually okay with everything they agree to as he possibly can manage. He wants to make sure Dashtu's not just saying yes because they're afraid Naoki will leave otherwise. When Dashtu learned that Naoki was in fact immortal, Dashtu approached a friend of theirs and insisted on being transplanted into an android body, to try to not leave Naoki or let Naoki leave him. It's lowkey terrifying how adamant Dashtu was about this.
