Personality

Hotaru is a laid back gamer girl, enjoying spending hours of her time playing videogames, watching Anime and other cartoons and just spending time relaxing on the internet. She's proud of her nerdy ways, and doesn't let others talk her down on it, even shows off her figure collections, pillows, doujins, manga, Anime, anything she has gained and put on display to show for it. Some of her favorite games to play are more competitive fighter games or fun multiplayer games that she can play with others nearby, finding it more fun to participate with others than playing alone. However, she is known to keep to herself for days or weeks at a time binge watching her favorite or new shows or dumping hours into new or favorite games. Spamming memes to all her friends on any of her chatting platforms, she loves to have a good laugh anytime, especially when trying to cheer herself up. She likes to look over forums now and then, looking for things to entertain herself, and she doesn't find trolling others beneath her, but she does have a limit to how far she will go. On occassion she will play card games, but she prefers video games in the long run. She can often be found snacking on Pocky while reading Manga or eating a bowl of ramen while she watches Anime on her tv. She likes to wear comfy clothing, going with her laid back and lazy personality, but she can be empassioned to work on new cosplay outfits when she finds characters she likes, going to any length to make sure the costume is as accurate as possible. She hardly takes off her collar, as it's her favorite thing to wear, only removing it while cosplaying or bathing. Occasionally she draws fanart, and fancies herself an artist as a hobby, but considers herself a full-time gamer weeaboo. Her hair color tends to change every now and then depending on what she wants at the time, but she tends to like keeping her hair long and sometimes tied back.

Hotaru loves to spend time with her good friends when she can, but she's actually a bit socially awkward. Because of this, she has a hard time attaching to new people or those she feels she's offended, so she tends to cling more to the ones she trusts deeply. This doesn't mean she isn't nice to others though, she always tries to be nice to others so long as they don't become rude to her. She will get snappy with people who aren't nice to her or her friends, becoming very feisty and defensive, but she does not like to be this way on a normal basis. Though she does enjoy to tease her friends jokingly on occassion, Sea Foam being her favorite target because of how he reacts to her jokes and pranks, but she only does this in good fun and does not mean to upset anyone or over-step boundaries. She also has a hard time feeling emotions regularly, often coming across a bit apathetic. There is empathy towards those close to her, but she has a hard time processing feelings and often doesn't feel many emotions unless something makes her feel strongly one way or another. She can also detach from others emotionally if she is pushed hard enough, making her feel nothing towards them.

Powers

Cosplay Hotaru Loves to cosplay any chance she gets and takes pride in having some skill at sewing. She often will at least plan or try to make her cosplays herself first before resorting to buying pre-made costumes unless they are just too silly to ignore. Being a bit of a perfectionist, she can't help but be picky about how the details looks and how things are made, always attempting to get as close and accurate to what the real deal would be as she possibly can. Sometimes her commentary can make her seem like a snob to others about how she views cosplay, but that's not what she means to be like, she just gets very caught up in accuracy and pride for doing what she does.

Artwork Fancying herself a free-lance artist, Hotaru loves to draw any free chance she gets and often gets antsy anytime she wants to draw but can't. She enjoys drawing online for others, sometimes foregoing her own interests to make other people's day with her art. Always seeking to improve, she likes to try all different things if something new catches her eye and see how it works out. She owns a small Cintiq and many sketchbooks as well, but really likes to have a steady work environment when drawing to help her concentrate, often listening to music or playing shows she's watched many times over as background noise to help her focus and give her a distraction if she needs a small break.

Story

History

Hotaru had always been very independant and a very free spirit since she was young, so much so that her parents sometimes had a hard time keeping tabs on her. She was always getting into a little bit of trouble and, though shy around people she didn't know, very good at making new friends or at least making others laugh and smile around her. Often times her friends moved away, so she started to have a hard time attaching to people too much, not knowing if they would stick around or not, but never felt lonely or abandoned: she just turned to reading books, playing with her toys or doodling and making crafts to keep her mind occupied. The one friend she always had no matter what throughout her childhood was Tera and Byte (the head on Tera's tail), whom she love to play video games with and snuggle up with. Enjoying watching cartoons a ton, whether meant for boys or girls, she found the action ones her favorite to watch over all and often day dreamed herself as different characters in differnt scenarios for each series she watched. Being fairly reclusive but not incapable of making friends by the time she reached high school, she eventually found Clover and became super close friends with her and then found Sea Foam, who she loved to tease in good fun once she found out he was a little easy to pick on. When she found out that Clover was going to the same college as herself, she decided to ask if they could be roommates so they could always hang together. They stayed as such the entirety of their college years, Hotaru often keeping Clover on track and helping each other through their classes and homework.

Present

Continuing to be roommates ever since leaving college, Hotaru can't imagine being apart from her close friends other than for her own personal time. As an aspiring artist and crafter, she tends to spend a lot of her time drawing or sewing, but she can't deny the call of the internet or videogames either. She does have a habit of getting caught up in playing games instead of doing her artwork and crafts, but she tries to pull herself back into proper motivation to get done anything she needs to. Spending so much time with the internet and videogames did pay off for her though in the form of MCC, having met him through playing online games and a little bit of posting to different sites. Ever since having gotten to know him, she fell for his nerdiness and felt it meshed well enough with her own that it felt natural when they finally started to date.

Tera and Byte still come over to hang out at her and Clover's place, making it a sleep over usually, but she does sleep over at Tera's place now and then too. They often have gaming marathons throughout the night or just hang out and watch shows together that they enjoy, just having fun with each other's company. When she can, she finds time to drag her friends to conventions with her and often get the group to do entire group cosplays so they all have fun together with everyone included, even at the protest of some of those in the party. Though she can't deny she enjoys once in awhile just getting to do a couple's cosplay with MCC and just spending some time with him at conventions as more of a date when there's an opportunity. Conventions are also great places for her to make new friends, having lead to her meeting her friend Atlas, whom she hopes to bring into some of the group cosplays as well as have him come over to hang with the gang sometime!

Onward

It's likely that Hotaru will continue to bring others into her antics as she can, enjoying making some new friends here and there. There is hope that one day she can make her artistic endevors a bit more noticed and more of her job, but, until then, she will continue to earn what she needs for her job and enjoy the company of her wonderful friends.

Relationships

Tera + Byte Tera and Hotaru have been close friends since grade school and always enjoy spending time playing games together. Hotaru even loves to cuddle up in her tail and play with her tail mouth, Byte, often petting him and feeding him treats.

Clover Clover is Hotaru's close friend and roommate that she loves to hang out with and get to dress up. She often has to keep an eye on Clover as there's a tendacy for her to stop paying attention to her surroundings and mindlessly waltz into dangerous situations. Despite this, they love being around each other and tend to rely on each other even.

Sea Foam Sea Foam is a good friend to Hotaru and often times the main subject of her teasing behavior. He's almost too easy for her to pick on with great reactions that she can't help it, but she always does it in good fun and will apologize if her pranks and jokes do go too far. He's often around since he's Clover's boyfriend and he doesn't distrust or dislike Hotaru per se, he just always tries to be wary for the next prank that might get pulled.
