Eliot Durant

○ REALISTIC // However, Elliot is not entirely a dreamer. He is burdened with humanity’s history and knows that ‘happiness’ for one person can have flip-side negativity for another. He is not a fool, though he sometimes CHOOSES to be a fool.

○ SCATTER-BRAIN // In order to maintain his sanity, Elliot periodically wipes his memory. Sometimes this means forgetting things about modern living, like automatic doors, or important-yet-trivial facts, like who his best friends are. Because of this, Elliot can sometimes come off as flighty, forgetful, and stupid. But it’s a small price to pay for his continued mental health.

○ KIND TO HUMANS // Many immortals in Elliot’s universe look down on humans and their short lifespans, but Elliot finds them fascinating. He is actually quite the fan of humans. He enjoys interacting with them and supporting them as best he can.

○ LOVER OF THE ARTS // Partially to cope with boredom, also because it’s his duty, Elliot is a huge consumer of the arts. He is obligated to read every piece of literature he finds, but enjoys reading more often than not. Elly also likes to observe paintings and other art forms, and is a fan of music. He does his best to support human creativity and is the type of person to dump his wallet in an artist’s tip jar. To Elliot, the expansion of art forms and their immortal value is comforting and gives him a reason to keep living.

○ CHILDISHLY HAPPY // Despite being immortal, Elly behaves quite childishly. He loves to get excited, he loves to experience new things, he loves to meet new people, he loves fun, he loves happiness. Elliot can come off as very immature because he wants to spend as much of his long life, and his human friends’ short ones, being happy.

○ “SPLIT” PERSONALITY // When he unlocks his living library, Elliot’s cheery personality vanishes. He becomes bogged down by all of his knowledge and turns into a pessimist. Though he struggles to keep being happy and keep believing, his Library Personality is doing just that: Struggling. He’s very unhappy and constantly losing the fight to be optimistic. Elliot finds this ‘weakness’ disgusting, which is why he tries to limit his interactions as the Living Library and locks his memories as quickly as possible. He’s a strong person, but not strong enough to deal with them.

○ Elliot was born in the Georgian Era ( like every other Vampire OC I’m so sorry. ) He saw the worst of humanity in those days, but was able to find a place with the Durant Family thanks to his photographic memory. Elliot quickly became a page boy and was moved to France.

○ The Durant Family tested Elliot’s memory by having him memorize every book in their personal library. Once it was hugely clear that his memory was no joke, the thirteen year old was presented with a strange ultimatum: He would become a Vampire at age seventeen, or be killed. He spent the next four years growing out of his skepticism and training to become a “Living Library.”

○ Once he was turned, Elliot’s duties began in full. He was expected to memorize any and all literature, art, science, math, etc. that he could get his hands on. He reported to French Immortals and gradually made his way back to England.

○ Throughout this time, Elliot would invest in publication companies, libraries, and art galleries. He did so not so much under many aliases, but by hypnotizing humans into using his “anonymous donations” to set these things in motion. Elliot became quite successful and would pocket some of the revenue.

○ As modern weapons became more developed, an organization formed which aimed to destroy Immortals. In their early rampages in the 1900s, a large number of Living Libraries from before the 1800s were murdered. Elliot was named “a world heritage site” as if he were a physical library. He was to be protected at almost any cost, and even given a number of formal guards.

○ In the 1890s, Elliot was approved by the Immortal’s Council to move to the Americas. He wanted to participate and experience the rise of American art forms and literature. He continued his investing hobbies and traveled America as much as he could. By the late 1990s, he was settled in California.

○ Recently in his history, Elliot’s thirst for knowledge brought him across a “forbidden book.” This book supposedly gave anyone who read it the potential to become a powerful, omniversal being. The Immortal Council would normally kill anyone who read this book, but they could not kill a protected World Heritage Site like Elliot. Instead, he was sent to “Immortal Prison.“

○ Which is code word for SENTENCED TO HIGH SCHOOL. Elliot was sentenced to live out one four-year High School period, and expected to graduate or face consequences. Because his crime was so severe, Elliot was also expected to apply for university, get into one of his top schools (and he accidentally set the bar rather high,) get a degree, and then go on for a Master’s. Then repay his student loans. Really, it was about the worst thing that could happen.
