Shi Yamato

Formerly a human boy, Yoshiya was manipulated by an evil organization, "Team Harmony," into 'evolving.' However, the experiment only proved that humans cannot evolve. The end result was Yoshiya's entire existence being corrupted, and him becoming a Missingno.

At his core, Yoshiya is a kind and loving person to a fault. He's an example of when 'put others first' can turn you into your own worst enemy. Since he was young, Yoshiya has been taught to be ashamed of himself: His white hair is 'unnatural' and 'death coloured,' he's very unlucky-- 'cursed,' actually,--- he must be very stupid, and he's not good at anything in particular. And since he was young, Yoshiya has willingly eaten up these lies about himself. The result is someone who puts others first because he understands himself as being put last, and being someone who will give everything he has away because he doesn't seem to deserve it. The resulting person is also quite happy this way. Even when Yoshiya catches himself being upset and bitter, he actively chooses to love instead of hate. He's a positive person, but severely brainwashed by his early mental abuse.

Marion was born as an only child to Margaret Kiniro, a young woman living in Unova. Her boyfriend and her where confused when their son's hair grew out white, when both of them had naturally black hair. The confusion soon turned to answer and accusations of Margaret sleeping around. By the time Marion was five years old, his parents had broken off their relationship. Margaret became a hateful person, often blaming her son for ruining her happy relationship. So one day, she took him on a trip to a Johtotian beach... and left him there.

Little Marion understood a frightening amount of his situation. He knew his mother hated him and deduced she was better off without him. So he accepted his abandonment and actively made an effort not to be brought home to her. He played dumb, acting like he didn't know anything about himself, and given a new name while in Foster care: Shi Yamato.

What Shi did not realize was that his mother had not simply abandoned him. She had sold her son to an experiment called 'The Fated Project.' From that moment on, Shi was part of an experiment to manipulate a human into evolving into a Pokemon. The theory was that humans had such potential-- being descendants of Mew and all-- and it was demonstrated with the energy they gave off for Mega Evolution. The experiment would test if Shi could be made to believe he was a Pokemon and evolve: So to start, they had to manipulate his mind from a young age.

The village that Shi was raised in was no accident. It was a small fishing village near Olivine City. The people there were highly superstitious and easily controlled through village gossip. A rumor spread that Shi was a 'curse' sent to the village by their Ocean Deity, Lugia. His very existence was a punishment and ill omen. This was supported by how horrendously unlucky Shi was. Every house that took him in was struck by disaster: Horrible accidents, house fires, electronics exploding, and physical harm to the families that loved him.

It was very hard for Shi not to buy in to the rumors. He did not realize that his aura was already damaged by the Fated Project and that his negativity caused psychic flare-ups, which caused the disasters. His curse began to follow him to school, where his classmates would bully him into cutting class and not cursing them.

He eventually caught the attention of one of the village's older sailors: A kind widow named Aomine. Aomine took up homeschooling Shi and would teach him about sailing in their downtime. He fully intended to adopt the little boy, whom he affectionately referred to as "Shiro."

However, that never came to pass. While fearlessly teaching Shi to operate his boat, the little boy's out of control aura cursed him. No one realized that Shi had damaged the navigation equipment and sos radio until Aomine's boat was out at sea. A storm struck, drowning everyone on board. The only survivor was Aomine's Lapras, who returned home on her trainer's order. She was sworn to protect little Shi, but he would be too scared to accept her until he was older.

This was the last straw for Shi. No one in the village actually knew his age, so he lied and claimed to be two years older. Though he knew he was actually eight, Shiro got a trainer's license as if he was ten. The villagers were very happy to get rid of him and set him on his way with a Tentacruel, Tina, whom Shiro had befriended months earlier. He used the name 'Shi Yamato' on his trainer card, but he began officially using the nickname that Aomine had given him. Shiro quickly realized he was, on top of everything, Nuzlocked.

Battle was hard, but it was the only way Tina and him could make money. Shiro eventually chickened out of battling, leading to him being mostly broke and very miserable. He camped outside every night and gathered food from the ocean. It was on one day when he was collecting fish that 11 year old Shiro was ripped away from shore by a cruel tide. The ocean dragged him out deep and held him under, where his young Pokemon couldn't reach him. Right as Shiro had accepted that he was going to drown, he heard a song and was rescued by a Lugia.

When he woke, safe on the shore, Shi was still awed by Lugia's song. He felt renewed and hopeful, even after all of his cursed existence to that point. Filled with hope, he decided he would start fresh. He told himself that 'Shi' had drowned that day, and that he would be reborn as someone better. He chose the name 'Yoshiya,' and set out to live a better life.

Yoshiya was certainly a much different person. He went back to the village to retrieve Aomi, and was given an ocarina that Aomine had apparently made him. Yoshiya began learning music as a hobby and became very good at it. He realized that he had a pristine memory and talent for picking up new skills very quickly. Yoshiya had no way of knowing that this was all part of the Fated Project: He was becoming more like Mew as he shifted to a new kind of existence.

Around this time, Yoshiya met two very important people in his life. One was the Unown, Kateri: They were on board with the Fated Project, and though they played the role of his friend they were actually manipulating him. Kateri was the first person he thought he loved, and she started a lonely train of desperate reaches for affection. Kateri was pretty quick to reject him, leaving Yoshiya with the impression his love was a burden. Which meant that he never told the second person, Lucas Silverwing, about his crush.

Lucas Silverwing was a fellow trainer that Yoshiya met when he was 13/15 years old. Lucas and him were almost identical, with white hair and bright blue eyes, and they were even the same age. At first, they traveled together simply as friends. When Lucas learned that Yoshiya was an orphan with no where to go, he convinced his own family to give Yoshiya a place to stay.

Yoshiya was hired to be Lucas' personal valet and body double, which led to him realizing his best friend was very rich. Lucas was also beloved by his parents. Mr Silverwing took to Yoshiya quickly and treated him like a second son, even though no formal adoption had taken place. He paid tuition so Yoshiya could attend school with Lucas and arranged for Yoshiya to be trained by professional Pokemon trainers, so as to help him overcome his Nuzlocke.

Mrs Silverwing, on the other hand, felt threatened by Yoshiya's existence. She saw that her husband planned to let Lucas escape being the Silverwing heir (something Lucas was vocal about wanting to escape,) and adopt Yoshiya to be the next heir. Yoshiya was smarter, more talented, and more tactful that Lucas. She hated that in her son's doppelganger and treated him coldly as a result. It was around this time that Yoshiya dyed a strip of his white hair blue, because he wanted to make it clear to Mrs Silverwing that he wasn't trying to be Lucas.

All of this came to a halt when Lucas and Yoshiya were caught in a boating accident. Yoshiya was, once again, saved by a Lugia and taken to shore. But Lucas was not so lucky. His friend nearly drowned and was found comatose next to Yoshiya. It was a horrendous scandal for the Silverwings, who were already struggling to keep the heirdom passed to Lucas and not one of his cousins. Thinking Lucas would wake quickly, Mrs Silverwing blackmailed Yoshiya into being his replacement. The family acted as though it was Yoshiya in the coma and that Lucas had walked away unhurt.

But Lucas never woke up. Months turned into a year, and 'Yoshiya' was still 'Lucas.' He heard from mansion gossip that the doctors thought 'Yoshiya' would never wake up... and as time went on, he realized that his schooling was not preparing him to be an heir. There was talk that the Silverwings would give it a few more months, then do something to bury Yoshiya and their secret.

It wasn't as if anyone wanted Yoshiya to live anyway. He had to watch the surreal reality of his classmates being GLAD that the ultra perfect genius was gone, and saw even the other employees of the Silverwing family hated him. He decided to let 'Yoshiya' die and simply devote himself to the illusion of being Lucas.

Though he acted like he was resigned to his Fate, Yoshiya did make one last attempt to struggle: He joined a volunteer group called Team Harmony under the alias ' Yoshiya.' Team Harmony wanted to raise awareness regarding a type of human-pokemon hybrid called a Sacred Child. They were trying to bring Pokemon and humans closer and save the world through Harmony. Yoshiya met many kind people through Team Harmony and held on for their sake. But at the end of the day, he still planned to go quietly when the Silverwings killed him.

That changed abruptly when he made a chance decision to get tea with a stranger. 'Lucas' had just wanted to soothe some momentary boredom when he invited Humra Reed to tea. Instead, he was struck with love at first sight. Her fun personality and common interests left him wanting to talk to her more and more. At the time, he was trying very hard to squash all traces of Yoshiya and maintain the facade of Lucas. Humra changed that. It wasn't long before he revealed his secret to her. When she accepted 'Yoshiya' anyway, his Fate was sealed.

Humra led Yoshiya to meet a number of new friends. He found a family that wanted him and people who loved him, flaws and all. Yoshiya learned to struggle against his misfortunes and about the value of strong bonds. Above all, he fell harder for Humra every day. For the first time in his life, he wanted to give someone all of his cursed heart. They started dating, first as 'Humra' and 'Yoshiya.' But before long, they both revealed and accepted their true selves; As 'Hana' and 'Shi,' he was finally whole and happy.

Then his whole backstory came back to bite him. Yoshiya learned that Team Harmony was not a kind organization, but a puppet group controlled by the Fated Project. They wanted to control Humra's mother, the Sacred Child of Giratina, and now they could use Yoshiya to manipulate her. Yoshiya started to get very sick as the last stages of the experiment sunk in. Despite all of the love he had been shown, Yoshiya still came to believe he was a curse. He had led an evil organization to his lover's family and even led to Humra's siblings being kidnapped and brainwashed.

At midnight on New Years eve, Yoshiya 'Distorted.' He was pushed far enough to 'evolve,' but it backfired. Humans could not evolve. Instead, Yoshiya became a mess of potential energy: A Missingno. His transformation also pushed Humra, who lost to her Shadowed Heart. The strain of the entire ordeal eventually led to Humra flat-out dying. Without hesitating, Shi used his potential to revive Humra. He traded his place in the world for hers and died.

WE COULD HAVE BEEN DONE WITH THAT, BUT NOOOO. Shi was visited by a miracle. Because he was so loved in that world, Shi was able to 'return' to them. He seemed to revive from the power of love, but it was more complicated than that. The Shi that returned to Hana's side was an embodiment of her love for him. He was anchored to the world of the living because his loved ones couldn't quite let him go yet. And he couldn't let them go either.
