About

Clothing: huge variety. Please make something up if you're feeling at all up to it!

when in costume/on-duty, he wears various very cool stylish villainy outfits consisting mostly of black, capes, boots, heels, latex, and layering baggy over skintight. his visor is required when in costume! but it can be any shape or design, or even replaced with a different type of mask/eyewear. sometimes he does schemes with a specific gimmick or setting and dresses up for that, like cowboy or fantasy or what have you. if you don't want to make something up, using anything in his gallery is 100% okay!

when off-duty, his civilian/casual outfits have a lot of variety too but tend to still lean alt. he still likes layering, black, latex, boots, and stuff like harnesses and straps and spikes. he can also go simpler: a band tee, ripped jeans, and converse? a slutty half-open button-down, nice pants, and dress shoes? anything goes.

he also accessorizes quite a bit. earrings are very preferred both in and out of costume! lightning bolts, triangles, knives, guillotines, snakes, anything you want. also sometimes slaps temporary tattoos on.

he has one (1) actual tattoo: the lightning bolt on the back of his neck. it is often covered by the high collars and capes he tends to wear.

sometimes wears eyeshadow and/or eyeliner, usually just in interesting colors, but sometimes more elaborate looks.

he does have impaired vision and normally wears contacts. you Can draw him with glasses instead as he sometimes opts for, but if it's a commission or trade please ask me first or give me an alt without!

notable features: sharp chin + jawline, pointy little ski-slope nose, optional stubble. lightning bolt pattern in colored part of hair is intentional; can be stylized/made more realistic but just know it's there!

the older versions of him you might see me draw are just that-- older versions, the future. his current/canon design is still the same! it isn't a redesign and he isn't middle-aged now, it's just me having fun drawing him at different stages of his life. if I'm commissioning you to draw him I mean his 24-year-old self, unless I've specified otherwise/the ref I've sent you is of an older version. if you want to draw gift art you can of course draw him at any age and I'll go insane for it no matter what

he starts working more neon yellow into his outfits as an accent color when he's older. not for any particular reason it's just a neat visual distinction. if you're drawing oldistaire feel free to consider this

Started out as a silly persona for my villaincore blog. His design is based on the Queer Villain Pride flag by distressedegg and his visor is a reference to korpspropaganda's RCGs. NSFW in both of those accounts.

supervillain who moved from a boring suburb to Silver City in his early 20s to take advantage of the unique culture there and go full-fledged queer-coded cartoon villain.

people who know him would describe him as... annoying. he tends to be polarizing; some people are drawn to his very... just A Lot personality and some (most) repelled, and there's very little in-between. he's loud, exciteable, enthusiastic, and spontaneous, and being his friend means being dragged on all sorts of bizarre outings.

has the ability to persuade electrons to move between himself and objects he touches, release those charges when he chooses, and "ride" releases of positive charge towards negative charge. this is a fancy way of saying he makes lightning and "teleports". his visor (engineered by Thomas) allows the wearer to see electric charges in objects, though he can also sense them intuitively.

the visor is also corrective for his vision. as mentioned in the drawing tips tab, he normally wears contacts when off-duty.

he's very touchy. he'll put a hand on your arm while talking to you, or across your shoulders as he passes behind you, or he'll grab your hands when he gets excited, or he'll put his legs on your lap when you're on a couch. he will do all this after knowing a person for .5 seconds.

he has synesthesia and doesn't know it. assumes his experiences are universal. it plays a role in the way he feels charges, and when he had Thomas make his visor, he was particular about which color each charge should appear. when he describes songs as shapes or what have you people tend to assume that's just alistaire being alistaire, incomprehensible and strange as ever.

if he ever finds out he has it he's gonna be so annoying and main character about it. for the same reason he wishes he was left-handed (he isn't. that ends up being a good thing).

his voice is high-pitched for a man and somewhat nasal. Ben Schwarz, Alex Hirsch, and Michael Kovach's Rocky (Lackadaisy) are decent examples

it's very hard to make him genuinely upset or angry. he takes almost everything in stride and lives for banter and silly arguments. he's bad at holding grudges, hatred is a performance for him, and he tends to value friends and enemies the same way. to him, someone you see often and think about a lot is someone who must be important to you, even if the reason you see them often and think about them a lot is because you are trying to kill them. this is why he's perfectly happy to clock out of villaining and go get smoothies with the hero who just foiled his plot and at whom he just yelled "CURSE YOU" five minutes ago.

he will generally follow the other person's lead for how out-of-costume interactions should go. if someone who opposes him on-duty is also hostile to him off-duty, he'll get right into the insults and pranks. if they compartmentalize it like he does and treat him neutrally/positively, then he'll only be the regular level of horrible he is to everyone all the time.

the colors in his hair are not dyed. they're permanent and grow that way. it may be possible he could dye them black, but he has never tried because he loves them.

as such, he doesn't have a secret identity. he is Alistaire 24/7. this makes it somewhat difficult to go grocery shopping, but he's done hiding.

his hair streaks and irises glow in the dark if he has a charge active. he often forgets about charges he's set up when he gets out of the range where he can feel them (which is also out of range of his being able to release them), so sometimes there is the frustration of being unable to sleep because his hair is lighting up the room. the more/stronger charges he has active the brighter it is.

sometimes he does it on purpose -- charges up a random lamppost outside the club so he can have cool rave hair

they glow under black light, too, but not for powers reasons; just because they're that bright.

very extroverted. no this does not refer to his outgoing personality that's not what extroverted means. it means if he doesn't See People for a few days he gets in such a weird mood.

steals money through elaborate heists or normal bank robberies often enough to keep him afloat and afford all his outfits and tech and rent. outside of that, he pours himself into ridiculous but fairly harmless schemes a la doofenshmirtz.

doesn't think about the future, and tries not to think about the past. lives for the now. what does he see himself doing in five years? [shrug] "more of this?"

hopeless romantic

doesn't really drink. doesn't like the taste of alcohol and really just feels like anything he could get out of an alcoholic beverage he could get out of fruit juice. he'll occassionally drink socially and get whatever is the fruitiest thing they offer. erm, I meant that literally, but... yeah, both ways.

favorite animals are cats and snakes-- he wants to own them as pets but knows he isn't responsible enough for it to be a good choice. he spends a lot of time out of the house, so a cat would be bored and lonely, and he would be too squeamish about feeding a snake and would want to bring it everywhere as a cool accessory which he knows is not how to treat an animal.

listens to girlboss music, some ska (if it's upbeat and youthful and punky), little a new wave

Grows up queer, always seeing himself in the villains in comics, tv shows, and on the news. Comes to idolize them for their unabashed self-expression and drive to realize their goals. Becomes disillusioned in adult life by the monotony and dreariness of the surrounding world. He tried college and jobs, and all he could think (while narrowly scraping by classes and being told he had "so much potential" hundreds of times) was that he just wasn't cut out for it all, and that it was depressing he'd have to resign himself to this for the rest of his life. He hated playing the dress-up game of uniforms and business suits, hated the performance of interviews and customer service, hated hiding and toning down parts of himself to fit into something he had never asked to participate in. So, as long as he had to dress up and perform, he might as well have fun with it, be the excitement and bright color he wanted to see in the world, cause some chaos and disrupt the status quo.

Around halfway through the first semester of the third year of what was supposed to be a two-year degree, he dropped out, and things snowballed from there until after an Inciting Incident, he fully used his powers for the first time, causing the streaks in his hair to appear. During the ensuing outbursts he electrocuted his dad, leaving him with a scar and impaired motor function + tremors in his right hand. He disappeared almost overnight to start his new life in Silver City under a new name.

There, he and The Gunslinger are work acquaintances for around half a year (the “work” in question being supervillainy). They don’t really know each other at this point and The Gunslinger’s impression of him is largely “nuisance”.

When The Gunslinger re-debuts as an antihero, Alistaire is 24 (this is the canon’s “present day”). The two form a weird sort of relationship where mostly Alistaire psychologically tortures Charlie, who puts up with it until he doesn’t, he punches Alistaire really hard in the face, and after that they’re friends.

In around five years from canon’s present day, there will be a High Stakes Battle in which Alistaire loses his arm and accidentally electrocutes Charlie while he’s trying to help. He gets a cool robot arm out of the ordeal.

The incident drives his parents to finally seek reconnection with him -- they've been keeping tabs on him in the news, but didn't want to violate any boundaries; but seeing him seriously injured pushes those reservations aside. the reunion is. messy. they work on their relationship over the next several years.

collection of physical changes: at almost 25, charlie shoots him by accident and he gets a scar on his side. at 26, an impact to his face causes his visor to cut into him, giving him a scar across his nose. at 27, he gets a left eyebrow piercing. at 28, he gets a forehead scar that interrupts his hairline, and he shifts his part a bit more to the left.

age 29 is when he loses his arm and gets the robarm.

at 32, he gets a right nostril piercing. throughout the rest of his 30s and 40s, he gets ear cartilage piercings and lets his facial hair go a little scruffy.

he probably also adds to his tattoos over time but I want them to be significant and related to specific things that we haven't figured out yet

at around 34 he and Charlie move in together, which does not whatsoever help clarify public perception of whatever they have going on. he finally gets to have cats though (since there's Another Person for them to depend on just in case, and since living with someone makes him overall more responsible for stuff outside himself) so he gets two after Charlie talks him down from four. their names are Skeletor and Enemy of The State.
