Profile

Leila's statsComes from a world where living skeletons and ghosts and all sorts of undead creatures are already granted life, so her career path is considered useless. Still, she’s a magic prodigy so that helps her a lot!

     Appearance

She's a short living skeleton at 146 cm, her anatomy differs from a human skeleton in several parts, especially in how big her skull is compared to the rest of her body, and that it doesn't seem to have any connection lines on top. She paints her teeth in a way that it looks like she's got lipstick on. She also has a faint blush on her cheekbones but it's hard to tell if that's on purpose.

She wears dresses and boots, is mainly fond of black and yellow color combinations. She also usually wears a yellow flower on top of her skull.

     Personality

She's a nice introverted girl. A NERD who believes education is one of the biggest blessings, virtues and rights of every thinking being. She's polite, empathic and friendly, though she's a little awkward herself when it comes to other people; she's not very skillful outside of her job and interests, but she's never cutting and tries her best to not seem distant.

Is a little innocent, or at least she would love for things to be more fantastic; she values the power of friendship, destiny and all that. Because that way tends to be mocked or criticised, she developed some generalized anxiety. She tries to pretend she's not like that, but certain things that make her anxious, especially socially, sometimes make her so nervous she lies on impulse. She can get to the point where she makes up fake stories in order to hide she's anxious.

Has a peculiar way to be afraid. It's hard to scare her superficially. Not because she's brave, but because her culture feels fear in different ways. It's possible that her reaction to surprise scares would be to burst in small giggles.

     Powers/Skills

As a living skeleton, she's relatively immortal. She can see, feel, smell and hear despite not having any organs for it. She maintains conscience even if she's separated, and her bones act like magnets if they're close to each other after being separated, this way her structure doesn't fall off easily. She can't arrange her skeleton in a wrong way, but she can rotate her bones in their place all she wants. She has an instinctive ability to track down dead and dark things, and she can act in a terrifying way, but she doesn't do it that much (at least not voluntarily). Her pain tolerance is high as long as her bones don't break; she can withstand slightly more extreme temperatures than normal humans before they affect her health, but she feels heat and cold as if she had skin.

As a magicologist, she has memorized a good amount of different types of spells. Nonetheless, she relies on her grimoire (made by herself!) for most of them. She especializes in necromancy and healing magic, and, as it is its base, white and black magic. She can only perform very basic elemental magic. She has many tricks up her sleeve of some other faculties like making stuff levitate, translate, clean, etc.

Her necromancy works to reanimate anything that has perished, granting it a temporary soul if it doesn't have one or drawing its own soul to obey its current summoner. Out of respect, she doesn't reanimate conscious people because they wouldn't have a real conscience and Leila knows it can be hurtful for their loved ones. Her interest is magicological and she doesn't use her magic to gain advantage over others most of the time.

With some effort she can reanimate people and maintain their conscience relatively intact for a short period of time. It's util for official investigations, though it's not very used in the necropolis.

She can also use necromancy magic or black magic to heal others in the case of serious wounds. It's not always successful, but if a wound is severe enough, she can try to reanimate the dead tissue. Said wounds have to be treated with outmost care so the effect of the magic won't spread. Her healing magic is much safer as opposed to her necromancy-induced healing, but she doesn't heal severe wounds.

She isn't physically strong, but she's skillful enough to defend herself with magic if necessary. Up to this day she hasn't needed it much, but she's prepared in case of any danger one can be put into in a prison.

Also, as she is a prodigy, she's very quick to analyze and understand things as long as they have to do with her field of job.

     Backstory

Comes from a world of undead populated by living skeletons, zombies, spirits and other types of dark manifestations tied to death, and the beyond. The thing is that they actually live in a society similar to a human one, only their life source is spiritual and magical. Throughout the years it has been discovered that a connection between their world and the world of the living exists, and in fact that their barriers can be crossed under certain cirsumstances.

Among the undead they tend to retain a huge amount of features of their 'past lives', despite not being able to remember them. It turns out that their souls stay the same at the core, but they transform after the moment of death. What humans interpret as the cycle of life, such as corpses decomposing and nurturing the earth and from that plants get their nutrients and animals feed from them and everything repeats, it's the same for souls. Once their souls abandon their bodies, they travel to the beyond.

All of this is influenced by their ties with the rest of the living. They say that if a soul is remembered by the living it will never be able to travel to the world of undead. A lot of families are forgotten as generations pass, so in terms of people, chronologically this world is populated with people that were alive around 50 years back, at least.

Skeletons are one of the species that take the longer to appear in the undead world, because they need to fulfill the full transition of being buried and decomposed, in optimal state, to be inhabited as an almost entirely new being. Leila's 'body' is a couple of centuries old, but she as the being she is right now has a lot less conscious. The transition from dead bones to living skeleton based on magic also causes her body structure to change lightly to a more sustainable for her.

Because of this, it's a little complex to know exactly how old she is, or who she was before. She does know her name is Leila and that she has been brought to life lucky that her 'family' was with her in this world. She didn't remember anything about her past life, but she knows she had ties with them (her family) and while she couldn't know how similar they would be with the past ones, she decided to accept them as her amily. She has always been curious about how her history was in life, but she has never been able to know anything beyond her own tendencies and that, because of the location of her city, she was an Andorran citizen (even though she doesn't remember anything about that country)

The cities of her world are named necropolis and they're all around the world. Every city has a mayor and most of them are usually very lively, ironically.

Growing up, Leila shower her potential as a magic prodigy. Even though her main interest was in how life works, normally she was mocked when she mentioned she wanted to practice necromancy. Of course, in her world, that would be pretty useless. Corporeal and incorporeal beings that already possess an independent soul in them are immune to necromancy, since this is based on reviving something to turn it into a servant. Nonetheless, Leila has never been interested in control, but she was fascinated by the possibilities, to understand and experiment on life.

She followed several studies, impressing many beings around her. She studied numerous fields until she became a respected magicologist, though it wasn't her ideal profession, she's still comfortablle with it. It was what sustained her credibility, a lot of her superiors expected her childish and fantastic interests to vanis with time. In the long run, they gave up on trying to maintain a serious Leila and assumed she would be that peculiar always. This didn't mean she would receive sympathy, she received disdain and very little attention. They listened to her when she talked about more possible things, things that matter to society, and not what she's passionate about.

Because of this and her nature, she didn't make a lot of friendships. She has a group of friends who are nerds like her, but nobody has the same talent for magic like Leila. Her professional life is entertaining, despite everything, and her personal life improves with the freedom to practice her passion all she wants.

She lives in a house in a community of green areas, or as gren as they can get in the necropolis, with a bunch of reanimated pets she has brought to life in the borders between the world of the alive and theirs. She doesn't have too many because the neighbors won't allow her.

Due to her academic achievements and the consistent proof that she excels in her area, she received an invitation to work in a prison. It probably wouldn't be her typical job, and she took a while to accept, but something told her it was special. Something told her she would find something good in it. And she wasn't wrong! When she knew about the prison, she found out about its potential. She knew how needed she would be there and all the possibilities.

So now she works in the ethereal prison by demand of her magical prowess. She's pretty new and doesn't exactly like the idea of having people incarcerated, but justice is justice, and her magical curiosity is incredibly excited!

      Other

  • Doesn't need to eat anything, but she takes calcium supplements to keep her bones strong. These come in bars or drink, and most skeletons consume them.
  • She has birds, cats and dogs in her house. She practiced necromancy on them and the plants in her house, making the house most 'full of life' of her neighborhood. The neighbors don't find it too fun.
  • She has a small hole in her skull, which makes her want to hide it with something. Usually she uses a flower, but sometimes she wears bows or hats.
  • Horror genre makes her laugh. Not because she makes fun of it, but her culture regards 'scary' things as comedy.
  • Despite not liking darkness very much, she has slight photophobia. It's normal in her species, but somewhat apparent if you compare her to humans. Her world is several times darker than the alive's and she doesn't have any pupils to adapt to light. Regardless, it's not much issue unless she's under the midday sun on summer.
  • When she talks about biological topics she's painfully technical, since a lot of organs aren't in her body she studies the theory almost in its entirety. Regardless, it's possible that she might be mistaken sometimes by a calculation error.
  • She wanted to be a veterinarian when she was a tiny little skeleton.
  • She's autistic, diagnosed as an aspie.
  • Her grimoire is a big comfort item for her, she's always carrying it, even if she knows a lot of its spells.
