Profile

AS A FANTROLL [Homestuck AU]:

Your name is OBEROS EKLEIP, and you are 8 solar sweeps of age, which plants you squarely on some inconsequential fraction indicating a rough parallel to 17 HYPOTHETICAL YEAR-LIKE LENGTHS OF TIME ON SOME AS-YET UNPLUNDERED PINK MONKEY PLANET. Despite being TERMINALLY INCAPABLE of feeling passion for anything, you have managed to develop a rather healthy interest in EXOTIC CUISINE, an interest which drives you to LURE UNSUSPECTING TROLLS INTO YOUR HIVE for the sake of creating fine dishes. In other words, troll meat isn’t just for holidays or special occasions. You spend a lot of your time on SCHOLARLY PURSUITS such as reading, and you have a plethora of self-taught skills thanks entirely to ALL THAT DAMN READING. You’re mostly into HISTORY TEXTS, and that doesn’t qualify you to give the best QUADRANTED ADVICE in the empire, but you end up dispensing a lot of it anyway.

You have discovered audiovisual files, apparently recovered from deep space servers, which depict a bizarre NEW-AGE MUSICAL MOVEMENT colloquially referred to as ‘1920’S JAZZ.’ You have a distinct fondness for this new musical movement and are disheartened that more do not share your interest. The richness of the instruments and the CLASSY DANCE TECHNIQUES of the bizarre hornless trolls depicted in these audiovisual files really appeal to you, especially to the part of you that is a HOPELESS ROMANTIC.

Your trolltag is overOblivion and you, Quite frankly, dO nOt understand why Others dO nOt speak as prOperly as yOu dO.

Symbol: A circle. Yup.
Age: 8 solar sweeps
Western Zodiac: Cancer
Eastern Zodiac: Earth Dog
Height: 6’
Blood Colour: Pale Cerulean [#94C7FF]
Name Pronunciation: Oh-berr-ohs Eh-Clay-P
Type of Troll: Cave-dwelling Highblood
Name Origins: Oberos comes from ouroboros, an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail and forming a circle. Ekleip is a root word for eclipse, another circular image, and itself means ‘to leave out, forsake, or fail to appear.’
Trolltag Origins: I chose overOblivion because, for one, the human OC off of whom Oberos was based used ‘Over Oblivion’ as their code name [It’s a long story :,D]. However, I really enjoyed the fact that overOblivion as a trolltag incorporated his symbol in a really obvious way, and I thought that it would be fitting given his theoretical aspect and class in SGRUB as a Mage of Void.
Lusus: A huge white hawk, with four wings - DECEASED.
Lusus Relationship: She was incredibly over-protective of Oberos and confined him almost entirely to her nest in the massive front foyer of his hive. After living in and basically never leaving this nest for 3 sweeps, Oberos got sick of ‘being babied’ and culled her.
Hive Location: A modest-looking rocky hillface. The front door to the hive is bigger than normal, but it’s set into a much larger stone bricked frame that Oberos added after he culled his lusus [since he no longer needed a massive archway to let her in and out of the hive]. This door opens into a massive [though largely unfurnished] foyer and former nesting chamber, and the walls are lined with a selection of doors. These doors open onto stairwells that lead down into the rest of his hive, which is located deep underground and can get very cold. However, it is very well lit with artificial lighting which runs throughout the hive, lending to it a much more civilized air. A few of the stairwells leading down from the main foyer end in deliberate dead-ends, and are designed to distract and confuse intruders or escaped captives. Oberos collects the horns of trolls that he has eaten and decorates his hive with them, primarily putting them to use as book ends and paper weights.
Personality: Deadpan, calm, unflappable, well-spoken, and pretty much boring. He also tends to be sarcastic and antagonizing, but in a very dry and calm way, towards those that he cares about. Oberos likes to be evasive when questioned, especially enjoying the process of selectively ‘mis-interpreting’ questions by taking them very literally.
Interests: His primary interests include butchery, exotic ‘holiday’ cuisine, and the new musical movement known as ‘1920’s Jazz.’ Although he’s a terrible singer he’s actually pretty good at solo swing dancing, but he never really does either of those things in front of others. He is also an intense homebody and neat freak, and enjoys the process of cleaning his hive thoroughly until it reaches an unparalleled degree of sterile cleanliness [whether or not he does this in aprons and cleaning gloves is anybody’s guess]. More out of necessity than anything else, he knows a lot about different injectable chemical compounds and drugs.
Dislikes: Crowds, leaving his hive, Insensible people, fatty or gritty meat.
Powers: Oberos is incredibly fast and precise with a needle, and is usually very sensible and intelligent. He also has the power to creep people out and hypnotize them with his ass, which is reportedly ‘fine.’
Weapon/Strife Specibus: His primary strife type is Syringekind, which allows him to use normal-sized syringes to either sedate or kill others with injections of venom-like poisons, other chemicals, or air. Since receiving military training he has acquired a new strife type - Bowkind, which he uses to fire [often poison-tipped] arrows with great precision.
Sylladex Type/How to Extract Items: A Ring- every item must be somehow related to the ones on either side of it in order for the ring to be maintained. If he removes an item and the ones on either side of it are not related somehow to one-another, the chain breaks and the items fall out. Luckily, Oberos makes sure that every item in his sylladex is meticulously arranged in order to allow for removal and addition of items.
Typing Quirks: capitalizes only O’s, and Q’s, and personal references of ‘I’ - O for obvious reasons, Q because it is an O that has been pierced by a needle, and I’s because they are themselves needles. He also refrains from using profanity, though he will calmly ‘quote’ profanity back to others when they have said it first. He tends to use a LOT of words with O’s in them. When extremely angry or upset, he will start to capitalize his E’s, turning them into a fist full of needles, and use less words with O’s in them and more words with E’s.

IF HE PLAYED SGRUB:
Title: Mage of Void
Planet: Land of Depth and Silence
Dreamer Of: Derse
Trickster: Spearmint
Why This?: Players with the Void aspect struggle with recurring themes of futility, obfuscation of their sense of identity and/or purpose, the persistent irrelevance or unimportance of their deeds, submission to and manipulation by others, and the fathomless unknown. Players of the Mage class are shown to be capable of deeply understanding their aspect, and as a defensive rather than an offensive class, use that aspect to protect and assist members of their own team. All of that is perfect for Obie.

ANCESTOR:
THE IMPERIAL GUIDANCE / OROBOROS / OBERON EKLEIP
The Imperial Guidance was the personal advisor [and secret matesprit] of a highly-ranked Seadweller within Her Imperious Condescention’s fleet. The Guidance served his master faithfully, and took great pains to conceal it when his lord began to make heretical plans to overthrow the Empress and take control of the empire. When his master’s plans to userp the throne were discovered, the scandalized seadweller immediately blamed it all on the manipulations of the Imperial Guidance, saying that he had been the one to convince him that he could become the Emperor. Rather than betraying his master and lover, the Guidance wordlessly accepted the blame that was thrown onto him, and was culled for heresy. However, his master was culled immediately thereafter.

Influence From Ancestor: Oberos has read the history of what happened to The Imperial Guidance, and because the Guidance’s willingness to cover for his obviously guilty master was well documented in the historical text of the situation, it’s obvious that the Subjugglators knew before they even culled The Imperial Guidance that he wasn’t actually guilty of what his master said he was. However, while the texts described the Guidance’s self-sacrifice as hilarious, pointless and idiotic, Oberos found it to be incredibly noble and romantic. Despite being aware of how poorly it ended for his ancestor, Oberos has deliberately sought to emulate him and follow in his footsteps. After some attempts to emulate his ancestor's choices led to heartache and failure in his earlier sweeps, Oberos began to question the wisdom of emulating his ancestor and, indeed, even began to wonder if the Guidance was every bit the fool that the history books made him out to be. After abandoning his romanticization of his ancestor's death, Oberos went on to forge healthy quadrants with others, including a thriving kismesissitude with Seiren.

SOUNDTRACK:
Mosquito Song by Queens of the Stone Age: Basically Obie’s themesong, in all seriousness. Best listen to this one with headphones, in order to get the full experience. Also, yes, these lyrics are heavily suggestive of cannibalism! 8D
Ice by Lights: Mostly just hilarious. I picture this song being from the point of view of anyone fruitlessly attemptuing to get close to Oberos.
Maybe Someday by Splender: I kind of picture this as being from Oberos’ POV, in regards to Nyxzel. It’s one of those songs that has a very up-beat sound, but has pretty dark or suggestive lyrics when you pay attention.
Hell Bent by Kenna: I dunno why, really, but this song makes me think of Obie and Nyxzel. :I The lyrics don’t really fit, like, at all… but I think it’s the feel of it that speaks to me.
Atlantean Twilight by Kevin MacLeod: Okay so. If I could make videos, I know exactly what images I would create in what sequence to go with this song. This makes me think of Obie’s childhood, when he was longing to leave his nest and being kept inside against his will, and then when he eventually killed his lusus.
Change My Name by Trading Yesterday: OKAY JUST BACK OFF I KNOW IT’S GAY BUT. It makes me think of when Obie was blinded and dishonourably discharged from fleet training and maybe thinking about Nyxzel.
A Comet Appears by The Shins: Another depressing song for Oberos! But, really, this one fits so nicely. The ‘chlorine light’ the colour of his blood, the line where he suggests that they maim his face and ‘start with the eyes,’ the bird chirping, the reference to the long and hard work that only cemented failure, the singer’s somewhat loving reference to lonely people as delicate things… it’s just pretty perfect.
Something About Us by Daft Punk: Sad songs about Obie’s love life.
Love Ridden by Fiona Apple: More sad songs about Obie’s love life.
Blue by Seatbelts: Makes me think of the blueblooded castes in general, but I like that it’s about seeing the beauty in the moment of your death. Maybe good for the Imperial Guidance and the Stargazer?
Obedear by Purity Ring: ‘Obedear’ sounds like ‘Obie Dear.’ :I
The Horror Of Our Love by Ludo: A lovely and utterly perfect kismesis song for Oberos and Sairen, since I feel like it captures how ardently he loves her as he hates her.
No Light, No Light by Florence and the Machine: This song feels to me like it has an awful lot to do with Oberos’ void element, especially the first verse. Obviously it’d be coming from someone else’s POV.
3 Little Words by FrankMusik: Pretty applicable to Kyprin and Oberos’ ill-fated redromantic courtship. Especially the line “We didn’t even start before we reached the end.”
Your Boy by FrankMusik: The lyrics for this song seem to fit Kyprin’s interpretation of his courtship’s end with Oberos, especially describing him as ‘a person who seems to be void’ and as loving things that make his heart ache.
The Moment by Safety Suit: A better summary of Oberos’ feelings towards Kyprin after he started to be more clearly vitriolic about bluebloods and made it clear just how thoroughly Kyprin did not understand him. Sung by Makoen’s voiceclaim!
Believe by Safety Suit: Makoen’s voiceclaim singing to Obie, ahhhhhhhhhh it’s perfect just let me drown myself in how wonderful it is-!
What Makes You Beautiful [Cover] by Bun Day: Obie’s headcanon voice [even if he sings poorly canonically]. I imagine Oberos having a very even tone with barely any inflection or fluctuation, well-enunciated words, and a voice that’s evocative of his symbol - smooth and ‘round’ in the sense that he has a surprisingly low pitch given his pointy appearance.
Watch The Sky For Me by Powerman 5000: I imagine this as Obie’s singing voice. Off-key, breathy, and awkwardly not-quite-right, as though he doesn’t project his voice as confidently as he does when he speaks.

EVENTS THAT OCCURRED IN RP AND HEADCANONS:
• Obie’s hawk lusus was originally the lusus of another pupa fresh from the trials. That pupa - either because of injuries sustained during the cavern trials, illness, or animal attack - died, and her distraught hawk lusus went in search of a new charge largely out of grief. This hawk lusus killed the male snake lusus that was ‘courting’ with Oberos, and took him as her charge.

• Hawkmom kept Oberos confined to the nest because she genuinely loved and worried about him - however, she was definitely abusive in her over-protectiveness, and would peck Obie into submission if she caught him trying to leave the hive or stray too far from the nest.

• Hawkmom’s feathers - both those shed in life and those harvested from her body after her death - fill Obie’s home.

• Because Obie feels little in the way of positive effects from rests in his Recouperacoon [since one of their primary functions is to ease the violent passions of trolls, and Obie doesn’t really have passions of any sort], he often takes naps or sleeps in nests of his massive lusus feathers simply to spare himself a messy, goopy dip in sopor slime.

• Oberos briefly felt flushed for a greenblooded neighbour in his youth. However, when they spurned his advances, he quickly fell out of pity with them. He culled and ate them soon after.

• Although he initially agreed to it only because he was humouring him, Oberos became the ‘servant’ of a seadwelling troll named Nyxzel, and eventually grew to take the role very seriously. Obie’s tried to be rather private about it, but everyone and their lusus seems to know that he’s not-so-secretly in deep pity with Nyxzel.

• Nyxzel and Oberos had a falling-out when Obie signed himself up for imperial combat training. Despite wanting to have proper training so that he could more adequately protect his friends and his master, Oberos knew that the imperial army would be suspicious if a seadweller were to professionally train one of his personal servants for combat, and that they may cull Nyxzel if they decided that he was trying to usurp the throne. Therefore, Oberos enrolled himself as a sovereign troll, and Nyxzel interpreted that as being abandoned. Nyxzel broke off Oberos’ left horn during this confrontation.

• Oberos’ eyes were prematurely showing-off his full blood colour. This was a genetic defect that was passed down from his Ancestor, and it results in eye pigmentation beginning at roughly 1 sweep of age and slowly deteriorating quality of vision. His ancestor failed to live long enough to discover any auxiliary health issues associated with this defect, and Oberos’ eyes were replaced [at military expense] with state-of-the-art experimental optics [painted the colour of his blood] not long before his 8th wriggling day.

• Oberos ended-up serving directly under Namor Ezara in the imperial army, primarily as a strategist and long-range soldier. He had not intended to see combat, however, he owed Namor a debt for hooking him up with those robot eyes, and he didn’t exactly have anywhere to go as he couldn’t yet confront Nyxzel again.

• After an indigoblooded Imperial Accuser named Jadrek attacked and maimed his dear friend Caeli, Oberos deserted his duties at the imperial training base and went to seek revenge. After they fought and despite injecting Jadrek with potent poison, Oberos was badly beaten. Namor sent a messenger to retrieve Oberos from the scene of the fight and return him to the base, where he was forced to rip out and return his own robotic eyes before being dishonorably discharge from the military and officially listed as the slave of Nyxzel Mahkra.

• Oberos was dumped off at his hive, and after several days without medical attention he was picked-up by Estacia [Caeli’s matesprit] and flown back to her hive. His wounds were tended to by his moirail, and then he stayed around the hive and received care from Caeli, Estacia, and Caeli’s bird lusus.

• Replacement eyes were manufactured and installed for Oberos by a troll named Kahdri Sprout. This arrangement was made by Aequus Gemowe on behalf of Caeli, who now owes Aequus a debt for the hook-up.

AS A GHOUL [Tokyo Ghoul AU]:
► NAME:
Gesshoku Oboro. His nickname with the CCG is ‘Mosquito,’ a name which he earned when someone remarked on his quick, flitting, ukaku-propelled flight on captured surveillance footage.
► GHOUL OR HUMAN?:
Ghoul.
► KAGUNE TYPE:
Ukaku. Oboro’s kagune manifests itself as something that looks like a sort of segmented beltloop that passes into the skin of his upper back on one side, and out on the other. He can ‘spin’ the beltloop at a high speed and use it for quick propulsion and maneuvering, sort of like a nonplanar wing. The beltloop can be broken at any time, and segments can be fired off like darts or needles before the ‘belt’ rejoins for further movement.
► HUNTING AND FEEDING HABITS:
Oboro is not an incredibly strong ghoul by any stretch. He’s incredibly fast, but has low stamina like any typical Ukaku user, and when he hunts humans he relies mostly on sudden ambush. He prefers long-distance ‘sniping’ with one of the segments of his kagune, but if face-to-face with potential prey he will speak to and charm a victim into lowering their guard before delivering a sharp blow. However it goes, he rarely does more than stun or knock them out initially, and once he's retreated to a more secluded place he will begin to harvest meat from their body, either killing them in the process or once they regain consciousness and attempt to resist. He enjoys, whenever possible, cooking human meat much the way that humans cook THEIR meals, making sausages and steaks and other respectable, dine-from-a-plate dishes out of it.
► POSITION/ALIGNMENTS WITHIN GHOUL SOCIETY:
Oboro tries to keep his head down, paying respect to higher-ranked and more powerful ghouls within the wards that he occupies. He happens to LIVE in one ward and commute to a human job within another, and arrangements have been made for him to hunt strictly within the ward where his place of employment is located, since his HOME is on more aggressively guarded turf.
► PROFESSION:
Because it is a career wherein no one would expect to find a ghoul - and because he personally enjoys doing it - Oboro has become a chef at a rich and prestigious [and very much human] restaurant. Human food still smells and tastes disgusting to him, but he is uniquely skillful in handling the cooking and preparation of meals that his human clientele describe as unique, and exquisite.
► PARENT[S]:
Unlike many ghouls, Oboro had the lucky experience of being raised to maturity by his father, who provided him with the security and support that he needed to pursue an education and career within human society. Although neither Oboro nor his father have ever felt terribly conflicted about hunting and eating humans, it was easy enough to recognize that they had a better chance of not only surviving, but thriving if they could only manage to pass within human society. His father works as a medical doctor, and although they were not often together even BEFORE his graduation from culinary school, Oboro has not seen much of his father since then, only occasionally phoning or crossing paths with the older ghoul.
