BACKSTORY

Alois was once a swamp-residing witch. Not the spooky kind with a pointy hat and a knack for mixing small children into a bubbling cauldron of bat wings, but one who preferred the peaceful quiet of her remote abode while mixing potions and medicines which she sold to travelers who were willing to trek to her doorstep.

One afternoon, the Stardasher was stirring up a new concoction when she bumped a vial of Burmouse fur clippings into the pot. This wouldn't usually be a problem, but something already in the mixture - perhaps a particularly volatile clump of swamp moss, or the over-ripened Chacao berries - reacted negatively with the clippings. The entire mixture burst into flames which rapidly spread, consuming Alois along with her home.

Luckily, the Stardasher's magical talents were top notch, and she was able to quickly weave a spell before being completely consumed by the fire. Upon dying, she was soon resurrected as a ghost. While it would now take more energy to take on a physical form to continue her work, her new form gave her access to even more types of magic. To this day, her most favorite of these is to conjure ghostly, tentacle-like appendages to help in her work.

Some who once traded with her for her concoctions grew fearful and no longer travel close to her home, frightened that the ghost that resides there is some malicious and possessed version of the helpful swamp witch, whereas those who still trust her know that she is still as caring as ever. Still, Alois has grown to enjoy playing tricks on those who no longer trust her by conjuring apparitions to chase them through the swamp, or tripping them into the muddy water with one of her ghostly tentacles.

• The ghostly tentacles are not a part of her, but rather a magical entity conjured from other ghostly-energies.
• Still, they typically protrude from her figure, as she controls them as if they were another limb. However, they can be detached safely.
