❝ Hogwarts castle is a vast building that stands seven stories high. Supported by magic the castle reveals to one hundred and forty two staircases throughout its many towers, turrets, and very deep dungeons. Being built in a valley area of the Scottish Highlands, mountains are part of the landscape. The Great Lake is to the south side of the castle, the Forbidden Forest extends to the west of the castle, and sloping lawns give way to multiple exterior greenhouses and vegetable gardens. The school is, of course, protected by many magical wards such as the Anti-disapparition Jinx. Hogwarts is home to four houses: Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin - all of which have separate house quarters with bed chambers and common room, as well as separate dining tables in the Great Hall. ❞

Melanie's story takes place in her sixth year of Hogwarts, which is very much an AU where the events of J.K. Rowling's actual sixth year didn't happen. (Or at least, they aren't written in.) So Melanie and Draco have been together for as long as she can remeber - first as best friends and then as a couple. Naturally their families know each other and that's how they met. And Draco was nice. When they met. When they were younger. Hate This and I'll Love You doesn't specify when Melanie first started being abused but I've always imagined it would begin in fifth year, leading up to the results of sixth year as a result of Draco's stress and how I'd imagine his father treats his mother.
