Do you count your art toward a character's worth?

I've seen both sides of this argument and I wanted a general consensus on it. Would you count your own art toward a character's monetary worth? You have put in time and effort into it, but it costs you nothing economically. I'm conflicted on it and I'd love to know opinions!

Usually, yes, I count my own art towards a character's worth.
For value keeping purposes as I like to track the numbers, I have a 'commission worth' and a 'total worth' the commission worth is purely what amount of money I've spent on a character, and the total worth includes my own artwork.
Here's a pretty good example of that https://toyhou.se/16639129.faraday/17248620.worth-log

Recent artwork [within the past two years] is added via the current worth of my commissions at the time. I don't assign a value to older artwork because my art back then wasn't being sold nor do I think it's got much value.
I don't add quick sketches or doodles to the overall value, just artwork that's either an option on my commission sheet, or something that I've put a lot of time into.

When it comes to reselling characters, I usually add in the value of my own artwork *unless* the designers terms of service say my own artwork doesn't increase the value.

MARSFAUN

yes. making art for my own characters is basically just me commissioning myself LOL

Yes because in the end the other person, if you sell, is getting more product (your art) so that adds value. If it's a shitty doodle then you ofc can say that value is 0 or a buck or whatever.

It depends for me, if its a quick sketch / doodle I probably won't count it (unless it's like a sketchpage or a ton of doodles) but if it's like an entire painted piece / etc, I'll definitely count it.

I said depends because personally only would count fully effort polished pieces. It's not often I sell characters will plenty of art though, hah. I would't count

my low effort stuff.

I have a rule for my sona, which is that anything I draw for her is worth 1$ because that’s a lot lot lower than what I would charge commission wise, and still adds value to her log.

yes I count super old art and silly doodles but it also means my super detailed paintings balance it out worth wise so it works for me!
