I own a closed speices called Nimbeis. They are not very popular or well known, i just started on deviantart with them.
I usually created them on a other site, to practise drawing. But soon they got some fans and i decided to bring them to DA too, haha. (,,´ 7 `,,)
World and habitat:
Ever since the first Nimbei was seen in this world, many people hunted and sold them. So much, that they came to the border of extinction. A small group of poeple now created the "Nimbei Protection Agency". Their declared goal is, like the name already says, to protect the last living Nimbeis on this earth.
Once they found a exemplar in danger, or in a area where it can't stay, they start to gain it's trust and then find a new owner for it. The new owner will be choosen very carefully, and needs to pass some strict examinations.
Some Nimbeis who aren't endangered or without a owner will be catched and brought to a huge, secret, protected area, where they can live in peace and fully for their own.
Some owner also wish explicit that their Nimbeis live together with the other ones in the protected area, since they think this kind of living is the best for them.
But however, there are many Nimbeis that still live for their own, aside and undiscovered from the NPA. They managed to master a life without any help and dangers.
It is also said that some exemplars found a way of their own to a human and started to develop a friendship with them....
Species and appearance:
They are lizard-like demons with saurian-like, rough tongues. The body of the most Nimbeis is smooth and velvety to come along with a super-fluffy tail. Some of them should also have a body made of fur. Also other ones say, they have seen some Nimbeis with special tails; like made of cotton-candy, fog, leaves, et cetera. Many people who have a freshly adopted Nimbei need to look first of what their tail is made of!
No one can clearly say why Nimbeis have such a wide range of different looks. No one really looks like the other. Some assume that it mostly depends on the habitat they live. But one fact is clear, some traits appear more often than other ones so that Nimbeis can be classified into 4 frequencys: common, uncommon, rare and mystic.
Here and there will be also some very new Nimbeis discovered, which have traits that no one has ever seen before.
Body and skills:
Every Nimbei can see very bad in the dark; but on the other hand they can smell very good! Their teeth are very small, but sharp!
Their height depents on their rarity, so they can grow from 50 centimeters (1,6 feet) till 100 centimeters (3 feet) high! But however, some exemplars are much more tinier or bigger than this datas. The species’ general anatomy is similar to those from perenties and komodo dragons, only with the exception that Nimbeis have slightly longer legs. They move very carefully and silent and try to not be seen by anyone.
The most of the common and uncommon Nimbeis aren't very strong and can maximum bite or tackle someone with their body, but the saliva of some exemplars is toxic and can poison humans and animals once they got bitten. It is said that some Nimbeis have special powers; such as magic, shaping into a human-form or healing. Thats why they are called "Lizard Demons". No one can say from where these few Nimbeis get their abilitys.
Behavior and social structure:
Since Nimbeis are wild creatures, they also behave like them. Most of them are very shy at the beginning and start to trust their owner very slow. You can't teach them tricks, since Nimbeis will never be domesticated pets. You can only give them a new home and try to be a good friend and partner to them. ♥
These demons communicate between each other with the help of sounds, such as snarling, grumbling and hissing. Their voice depends on the gender. Male Nimbeis have a more deeper voice, while the one from females is much higher and more squeaky.
Nimbeis live as loner and prefere a life without any other exemplars of their species. But however, once they found a partner they love, they will always stay at their side, no matter what.
Every Nimbei has congenitally a special liking that reflects on their behavior and sometimes also on their appearance. This can be a color, a food, a person, a object; literally anything.
Reproducing and diet:
Most Nimbeis eat meat of smaller creatures. But some also feed on fruits, plants and vegetables.
A Nimbei-couple lives together for the rest of their life. Their mate consits of a long chain of buzzing sounds, "dancing" and gently biting. Depending on how strong their bond is, they produce between 1 and 3 eggs. Those eggs will be warmed from both parents for a period of around 30 - 40 days. The young Nimbeis stay with their parents until they are a half year old and fully grown, after that it left both to live it's own life.
