| Tarou married his college sweetheart while they were still attending, the sweetest girl he'd ever met. They got a flat together straight out of college and were happily moved in. They were a very loving happy couple who were planning to have kids, but in the mean time bought some cats (Indigo, Plato and Mako). It was a long time before they felt stable enough to actually think about having a kid seriously, and they started putting aside money and trying, until the day she happened to catch him. Covered in blood and eating a stranger off the floor when she'd come home from work early to surprise him. She yelled and swore and told him no child of hers would ever have a cannibal for a father, and Tarou understood why. She called the authorities on him and he didn't resist, just wanting her to be happy. He served jail time, during which the divorce was finalised and he can only assume she met someone else. She took the cats with her in the divorce, saying he was never allowed to see them again, not as long as he was a monster. When his sentence was up, Tarou was placed into the country's Cannibal Rehabilitation Program. No cannibal could return to society if they couldn't stop eating people, and this was where to learn how to stop. Tarou however failed the test. With the next teacher, he still failed the test. And the next and the next, until he was declared unteachable. He was scheduled to return to prison, except his most recent teacher, Fitz, spoke up for him, saying he saw potential. Tarou knew it was a lie. Fitz's classes served no interest in stopping cannibalism. As a cannibal himself, who hates everything about the program, Fitz instead teaches them how to not get caught and the right things to say on their forms. People fly out his class, passing tests with flying colours, none to ever walk back through those doors after their probation period. Tarou disagreed with Fitz's practice, as a person actually interested in recovery. Fitz made it clear he didn't give a shit about recovery, as far as he saw it there wasn't anything to recover from, and the mentality scared Tarou. He purposely failed the tests (that he was unlikely to pass anyway), not wanting to lie about it. Even though it would have made it so much easier to get his wife and cats back. Fitz eventually went through him, pissed that Tarou continued to do this when Fitz literally handed him every answer. Tarou simply apologised, feeling bad about it even though it would of felt wrong to do it. Fitz then admited he'd only vouched for Tarou because he thought he was hot but wasn't interested in fucking about with someone who'd rather be behind bars. Tarou was shocked to hear someone still compliment him, and let the comment wriggle in his mind for weeks, until the next progress test came through. He got just under the passmark, feeling like he owed something to Fitz. Fitz caught onto it pretty quick, asking if Tarou had done it cause he was interested in him, but Tarou only shrugged. Fitz loosened up on Tarou after that, and started to treat him as more of a friend than a student. He let Tarou into his office and they'd talk and Fitz would bring him stuff from home. Tarou's grade rose a little, but he was still genuinely struggling with a lot and wasn't really able to pass the full exam. Fitz let him off with it, since he'd taken to having Tarou around. About a year after they became friends, Tarou asked Fitz if he was really interested in him like that and the two ended up dating. Despite Tarou's failure to pass the class, Fitz managed to get some special permission to allow Tarou to stay with him, counting him as a "special" case, who needed "special tutoring". Tarou has to stay with Fitz wherever he goes, or he has to return to the centre and stay there till he is deemed safe. | |
