☆ About

The ghost of a man long dead, brought to a living state once more. Isamu despite his brutal death lives again among tuners. He still never truly scapes his issues from his life, and has to work through all the new ones that come with a strange after-life and powers he never wanted.

The flowers in his eye treat him like a corpse, feasting off his body to grow, they spread quickly and he has to pull out sprouts and cut them back and their leaves to keep himself from being consumed and killed by them.

☆ Headcanons (That are now canon)

Isamu has an incredibly dark and dry sense of humor. In fact, most normal jokes are lost on him.

☆ Personality

At his heart, Isamu is a grumpy old man, bitter about the world. He's impatient and unhappy and acts older than his age at the time of his death. However, due to the damage caused by having a sword through his head, he is partially spacey, sometimes seeming lost in thought or just outright stalled. He'll either come out of it on his own or be stirred around by others. He is easiest dealt with by Ransi, due to his lack of trust and negative reactions to others.

☆ Story Summary

Isamu grew up with his older brother, dreaming of becoming a samurai. Throughout his childhood, he would cling to others, and would struggle with opening up to new people. It annoyed his brother but the neighbour's older boy, Ransi, didn't mind and happily let Isamu cling to him. The two became close friends and Isamu trained with him so they could both be samurai.

Isamu eventually became a samurai and lost his left arm in battle when he was 20. Around that time, Ransi and he started dating, causing Isamu to take a backseat and he became more reliant on Ransi. Isamu was happy and loved Ransi dearly, kissing him on his way through the door and sleeping with an ear to his chest. Isamu didn't mind living at home and working on just things around the house. There was some talk but Isamu's great pride in himself and his boyfriend helped him to ignore whispers.

When Ransi was 33, he was killed, leaving Isamu alone. A lot of people shunned him as it was widely seen that he'd leeched off Ransi for his whole life, and hadn't done anything himself. Isamu started drinking more, and a friend of his, Saburo Yamashita, started worrying about him. He would chat with him and offered his house as a place for Isamu to stay. Isamu took the offer since he had nowhere to turn to, and Saburo was quick to make their relationship as intimate as Isamu would allow. Isamu appreciated him as a friend and appreciated his kindness, but once again fell into relying on it too much. He stayed with Saburo and would cook for him and clean. If nothing else it was pleasant company, someone to keep him going with a kind smile and cute nicknames.

By the time Isamu was 48, he had returned to being a samurai, although he still stayed with Saburo. When a war broke out, Saburo betrayed them much to the shock of everyone. Isamu refused to believe Saburo would do so willingly, refused to believe the person closest to him would want to cause him harm and decided to meet with Saburo. He died from being stabbed through his right eye, the eye came out on Saburo's sword as he withdrew it and walked away. Isamu's body was found and the people knew that Saburo was nothing but a traitor. Isamu's eye socket was filled with flowers to hide the damage at the funeral.

The flowers stayed with him when he returned to the living world and are at risk of growing into his body and spreading as they live off him parasitically. He suffers from frequent nightmares about them growing into his brain and throat. Due to the fact he had been killed from being stabbed through the eye and brain, he lost a considerable amount of his memories. He could remember scraps, and he was filled in on some things; such as his relationship with Saburo and how it lead to his death. Isamu greatly struggled to connect to people, knowing it had brought his death once before. He only held the faintest of memories of Ransi, not being able to put a name or face to him or even remember their relationship.

It was years before Isamu happened to pass by Ransi and Ransi stopped him, begging to know if it was really him. He was met with disappointment learning that his beloved barely knew him anymore. Isamu was suspicious of him, finding it hard to believe he could forget someone who claimed to be as important as Ransi when he had been forced to remember so much of Saburo. Despite his somewhat broken heart, Ransi set to rebuilding their relationship, hoping Isamu would remember him eventually.

☆ Relationships

Ransi Kagarou [ Boyfriend ]
Pre-Death
Isamu and Ran Ran met when they were little kids, Ransi a little older than Isamu. Isamu would cling to Ransi and follow him everywhere, wanting to train with him to be a samurai. Isamu would give Ransi silly presents, like cool leaves, that Ransi would hold onto forever. Despite his clinginess, Ran never seemed to find him annoying. They trained and played together until they were able to achieve their dream.
Around the time Isamu was 20, Ran and he started dating. The two were already so close that Isamu was quick to move in with him, much to Isamu's brother's delight. Isamu was extremely sweet and sappy, cooking for Ran and sleeping on him and kissing him every time he walked through the door. The pair were an extremely sweet lovey couple until Ransi's death.

Post Death
After being reunited, Isamu remembers next to nothing of Ransi, but Ransi sets to work trying to rebuild their relationship. They started out small, Ransi would try and tell Isamu about stuff that had happened, and Isamu wouldn't believe him. Eventually, Ransi put the past aside for a bit, wanting to just go with the present if it was the only way to get his boyfriend back. He would take Isamu out for coffee or lunch, and just talk to him casually, and eventually, Isamu's defences started to waver. Everything about their conversations would feel familiar and safe. So, Isamu allowed himself to get closer.
Due to a lack of other options, Ransi eventually convinced Isamu to stay with him, at least temporarily. Isamu struggled greatly getting used to living with others again after having isolated himself for quite a while. Eventually though, over a while, he got some faint memories of Ransi back or would slip up without thinking about it. He'd call him "Ran" or "Ran Ran" again without thinking, he'd say he loved him, followed by complete shock at what he'd said. The two still have to work on their relationship, but the occasional kiss slip up, or falling asleep his an ear to Ransi's chest after a night of drinking happen more frequently and less drunkenly as time goes.

Saburo Yamashita [ Ex Best Friend ]
Formerly a close friend of Isamu's, they met when Isamu was 18 and Saburo was already a samurai. He was one of the few people Isamu managed to get along with at the time. The two drank together on occasion and would train together while Isamu was still a samurai. After Ransi's death, Saburo ended up taking Isamu in and getting very close to him, only ever calling him "Isa-chan". Isamu both enjoyed and hated the attention, as he was mostly still hung up on Ransi. Isamu never really saw him as more than a friend despite Saburo's advances. When Isamu was 48, Saburo killed him.
