Yule

Yule is an incredibly talented warlock and far too curious for his own good. A former student and research patron of the esteemed University I Havent Named, Yule got himself into indescribable trouble with the ancient forces of magic when digging around in archives he didn't belong in, and had his head privileges revoked as punishment. He bargained his arms in exchange for a way to interact with his now-intangible face - he needs to eat to live after all - and was begrudgingly gifted an enchanted scarf in exchange. Its been years since and he's... coping.

Now that his high-sorcerer dreams of his childhood have been dashed (its fine, he wasn't really sure what he wanted come college-age anyway), Yule leads a fairly average life for a mage and spends a decent amount of his time working with professors at the University on various deep-theory research projects. Poor judgement aside, Yule is quite smart and a good magic scholar. He's not an official employee and mostly works under contract via research grants, but he's considering an adjunct position of some sort in his future. Maybe. Yule's missing-limb predicament has permanently handicapped his magic abilities, and besides, he has other hobbies.

Yule is an avid Maze runner, infatuated with the mysterious structure just as any other enthusiast. He loves the sense of adventure and the challenges the Maze presents and still visits it fairly regularly, though not as often as when he was in his teens. Having lost his casting focus, his hands, and with them a significant margin of his safety, Yule does his best to take it easy, but he's never really been the type to worry about self-preservation.

Recently, Yule has met a young woman and their mutual crushes have developed into a steady relationship. Jasmine has coerced him into helping teach her magic - she has little intent to pursue it professionally, but it has always fascinated her, and what better way to bond with a partner to which it's so important? Her dedication is admirable to Yule - most people develop their magic as children, when it's easier - and he's very excited to see what happens when her magic comes in properly.

Yule is an impulsive, lackadaisical child. His head is in the clouds and he is a forgetful, insatiably curious trouble magnet. He might exude an unflappable air of coolness upon first impression, but he's a huge dork and will shatter those expectations pretty quickly. Despite his happy-go-lucky attitude, though, Yule has some extremely deep-seated problems with being different and tying his self-worth to his magic abilities. He tries very hard to remain upbeat and push these feelings down with positive things instead, but it doesn't always work.
