Matthias is a German son of Hades who, like many children of the God of the Underworld, is much older than what he appears to be. He stays at Camp Half-Blood, now a year-rounder since the Thanksgiving after his first summer. While he doesn't mind it away from home, he is often even an outcast within the already 'weird kids'. More times than not, he is in trouble with Chiron whether it's for skipping out on lessons, training, or chores, or punching Joshua square in the jaw for something the son of Apollo said.
He tends to display very little care for the people and things around him, whether it is actually true or not can't really be seen. Picking fights seems to be his favorite passtime, though it does have roots in how he grew up, finding violence tended to keep other kids at bay when no one cared to stand up for him. Even so, when he's not being loud and aggressive, Matthias is usually quietly and contently doing what HE wants to do. Wether it's reading his newest favorite book, learning how to fight with a spear, or simply sitting in and listening to Olivia's newest play ideas.
Despite his tendency to be very loud, mean, and sarcastic, he doesn't enjoy the spotlight at all. He shrinks back from attention and will almost always make snide comments against those that bring any attention to him or the Hades cabin, as there aren't very many of them there to begin with. However, he also will stand up and defend the honor of his cabin when needed, as often kids will poke fun or even outright show distrust and animosity toward his divine family.

Early Childhood
Born on x of December, 193X in Dresden, Saxony, Germany Matthias Ziegler was the result of Hades, god of the dead and many other things, and Isolde Ziegler meeting for a time when the former's wife left for her mother's half of the year. Isolde, wanting so badly to marry, thought for sure this man would be the one. As most gods did, however, Hades left her eventually. He had an Underworld to run, and a wife to return to. Isolde was never going to be a true love for him, just a passing fling.
Despite her attempts at being a good mother to the baby, heartbreak ultimately made her bitter. She was a single mother attempting to raise a child of a god, who in her eyes was just another deadbeat man who couldn't care less about family, while war waged around them. Matthias became a bad luck charm more than a son. Weird things happened with him around. He scared male suitors off, whether it was with the idea of Isolde being a single mother or his uncontrollable aura of... strange. Slowly, this blessing became a curse, but she never had the heart to completely abandon him.
He might've turned out much different had she simply gave up her parental rights, but it was not the case. Matthias became a quiet child out of habit. Mother never came to him when he cried for her, and she never wanted to hear about what kind of injury he sustained from being a "reckless idiot". He learned adults didn't want to hear about the silly stories from Kindergarten, and she certainly never cared to comfort him when other children began to bully him because he couldn't read well or couldn't sit still, and often talked about things no one wanted to listen to.
Matthias' perception of the world was warped very early on, and he began to feel very lonesome even in rooms surrounded by people.
Bombing of Dresden
At the height of the war, during the second raid of Dresden, Hades finally returned. It was only briefly, enough time to ensure the safety of his child. As Matthias was still young, and Hades had no reason to let Isolde die, this included her protection. He took the two, not explaining why, and brought them to a hotel similar to the Lotus Hotel. There they stayed until the 21st century.
Within, his mother completely took to neglecting him. She was never there to scold him, or praise him. She never made him eat his greens or tucked him into bed. Matthias was a kid in a candy shop, an amusement park, eventually an arcade, unsurpervised for years. (to be elaborated on)
Life in America
In the summer of 200x, Isolde and Matthias were pulled from the hotel. They moved to America and had to adjust to new life very quickly..
Hades, God of the Dead
[ father ] Incredibly rocky at the start, though Hades proves to care deeply for his children and Matthias eventually finds his dad to not be "so bad". TBC.
Isolde Ziegler-Williams
[ mother ] Isolde serves only as a force to rebel against by time Matthias reaches his first year of high school. They share no familial bond and it's safe to say Isolde is not very fond of her son. TBC.
Olivia Ward
[ best friend ] His first friend at Camp, and the first person to truly not judge his worth on who his father was. TBC.
Rosa Fusco
[ half-sister ] Though at the start, he wanted nothing to do with her nor the attention she once again brought to the Hades cabin, Matthias came to care for her more than he anticipated. Along with Olivia, it threw a wrench in his plans to simply detach and never feel hurt again due to the disappointment of humans. TBC.
Joshua Campbell
[ rival, "sworn enemy" ] Due to a few bad first impressions, Matthias has it out for all children of Apollo. (Joshua was the reason for this). TBC.
