Rasmus was a nobleman with, what his parents believed to be, an unhealthy obsession with magic. When he was supposed to be training for his station later in life, he was more often found watching magic shows or reading about the art in his family's library. Rasmus also managed to teach himself magic - after a fashion. He became skilled with sleight of hand, and while it was not real magic, it was something. It amused him to go out and perform such sleights of hand for the entertainment of others.
What Rasmus wanted, though, was to obtain real magic. He wanted to be like the sorcerers and witches he had read so much abut. In hearing about the Magical Society he saw it as his opportunity. He left his family and duty behind to seek out the magi.
Much to Rasmus's dismay he was informed that magic was something you are born with and cannot be learned. He was ready to leave, to return home defeated, when he was approached by Arianna. She invited him to train with the sword and to teach the magi the physical arts. It allowing him to remain in a place of magic, he accepted.
Ramsus now works as second in command to Arianna in training reluctant magi on physically fighting. From time to time he still practices his own magic, much to the vast amusement of the real magic users.
