Jean Chastel (Archer)

Madness Enhancement (E) – The lunacy of werewolves stirs within her. As an Archer, this Skill has been Ranked Down.

Independent Action (A+) – The ability to operate without commands from a Master. Chastel is a relentless hunter who works best alone. Combined with Madness Enhancement, diverting her attention or interfering with her prey leads to negative consequences.

Magic Resistance (C) – As a Mythic Beast, Chastel has some protection against arcane influence.

Beast Slayer (EX) – Chastel is the mythological hunter, here to protect Humanity from the Mysteries still hiding in the world. As such, she is always prepared with the appropriate countermeasure and expertise to deal with any Beast or Demonic foe. In addition, she gains a damage bonus against those types of enemies.

Marksmanship (A+) – This skill ensures Chastel and her mix of custom firearms, ammo, and weapons will hit her mark. A silver bullet is no use if you can’t hit your target.

Curse of Lycanthropy (C) – Ranked Down as an Archer. Chastel is a twisted existence, both the hunter and the hunted. The skill is a mix of Shapeshift and Wild Beast’s Logic, allowing her to turn into a beast as needed. However, continued use of the Skill may result in an automatic activation of Grimm Mantle.

Argent Votum [Silver Which Banishes the Darkness] (Anti-Unit) Chastel makes a solemn promise to defeat her enemy, and shoots a silver bullet. The bullet strikes her opponent’s weak point for massive damage–and if a weak point doesn’t exist, it simply creates one. While it does not guarantee a kill through a reversal of casualty, those with famous weak spots are much more susceptible to a killing blow.

Grimm Mantle [Beast Who Stalks the Darkness] (Anti-Unit (Self)) Like wearing the fear and folktales of wolves as a cloak, Chastel transforms into a massive, man-eating Phantasmal Beast. Her Class is forcibly changed to Berserker, and she completely gives into animal her instincts. A beast with no weakness, except for her human self…

From nameless hunters such as the individual who helped the famous Red Riding Hood to the Dracula’s arch-nemesis Prof. Van Helsing, humanity is rife with stories of those who fight things that go bump in the night. However, it was thanks to Jean Chastel, slayer of the Beast of Gévaudan, who gave humanity its first weapon against the supernatural: the silver bullet.

The historic Jean Chastel was a farmer and innkeeper who killed a man-eating wolf in 1767 with a silver bullet. The incident gave rise to modern werewolf lore about their weakness to silver. Archer Jean Chastel represents mankind defending themselves from Magical Beasts without the aid of Magecraft. But, like a lycanthrope changing from human to wolf, she is a Servant with a mutable class.

The Servant Jean is a werewolf, in fact she is also the very beast history claims she slayed. The Beast of Gévaudan and Wolf of Soissons are just a small number of infamous lupine monikers from the late 18th century that Jean embodies. Again, as an Archer, her humane side is fully in control and there is (almost) no situation where she would lose that control.

When summoned as a Berserker, Jean’s alignment shifts from Lawful to Chaotic, and she has no hesitations about killing those in her way. Her werewolf side has been twisted by Europe’s fear of wolves in addition to stories from the proceeding century, most notably by the Brothers Grimm. However, much like the of a certain Wallachian ruler, she doesn’t appreciate jokes about these fantasies–especially those about blowing houses down.
