Don is a very aggressive and chaotic policeman/detective with a sharp tongue, but he doesn't usually do anything against the law. We are talking about big offenses, because he happens to commit small ones. Like yelling at random people on street...
Don gestures a lot and has many sudden reflexes. For example, Zach likes to suddenly touch the back of his (Don's) neck, which always shocks and annoys Don, who, all in shivers, jumps away.
McKenzie is also stupidly brave and honest. He often complains and talks a lot. He is unpredictable, and therefore his psychologist was not sure if it was a good idea to approve his application for a job with the police.
Don is generally rude, even to the people he likes. This is his protective mechanism - he doesn't want anyone to know he likes them.
Don (despite complaining) likes his job, rainy days, bars and cooking.

Their meeting was accidental - Zach was acting shady, so Don started chasing him with the aim of arresting him, but when he caught him, the man passed out.
Seeing his eye (the glowing one), he decided not to report it and took care of Zach himself.
Zach and Don are very close, but they don't usually show it. Zach usually pisses Don off and they argue a lot, but it's nothing serious.
There are times when you can see their bromance, when, for example, they accidentally fall asleep next to each other on the couch. Or when one gets hurt and the other tries to help. Nothing too romantic tho, they are not lovers.

Leslie and Don met because of a mutual friend (Zach). They respect and even like each other. Leslie always tries to calm Don down (Unlike Zach who constantly does the opposite thing).
