Wrench settled down in his apartment and began listening to the tapes Marcus had stolen from the FBI headquarters. Finally, the dark veil that covered Mousy would be lifted. He took a deep breath and pressed play on the tape recorder, unprepared for the story that would unfold.
"Please state your name for the record," a female voice gently commanded.
"Micah Hir--"
"Your real name, please, Yuki."
"My real name? But...if you already know it, then why do I have to say it?"
"For our records and for this session. The faster you cooperate, the faster we'll be done, okay?"
"Okay...I guess. My name is Yuki Hirota."
"Good, good. Now, do you know why you're here?"
"Not really."
"You hacked into one of N.A.S.A.'s satellites."
"Oh, is that why? I should apologize, right? Okay then. I'm sorry. Can I go now? I'm thirsty."
"Would you like a glass of water?"
"My daddy said never to talk to strangers. He said not to take anything from them either, especially if they're wearing suit. You're wearing a suit, so I don't think I should take anything you give me..."
"Your daddy is very right. You should never talk to or take anything from strangers, but I'm different. Not everyone in a suit is bad. You can trust police officers and detectives, and even federal agents. We're here to keep you safe."
"That's not what daddy said."
"Oh? What did your daddy say?"
"That you're bad people, that you want to control every aspect of humanity."
"Do you believe your daddy?"
She fell silent. Wrench could hear slight fidgeting from the child's seat.
"Where's your daddy now?" the woman asked.
"I don't know." Her voice fell even quieter.
"Don't you think if your daddy cared about you, he wouldn't have abandoned you?"
"He did it to protect me," Yuki said defensively.
"From stopping himself from putting you in the hospital again?"
"That wasn't his fault!"
"He stabbed you in the arm when you were five. How was that not his fault?"
"B-because...it...wasn't. It's not his fault he can't tell reality from fantasy."
"How do you know that?"
"He told me. I had to make sure he took his candies, but he said that they bothered him, so he didn't want them anymore."
