Intro

  • Name Wynn Davies
  • Species Human
  • Gender Female

Wynn Davies, the soon-to-be authority on cockroaches and termites the world over. Or at least, that’s what some people say when thinking of the girl. Ever since she discovered a new species of cockroach at the age of 11, she’s been vehemently studying the Blattodea order of insects, writing numerous papers on them that get posted online using her real name and previously a pen name.

Though her appearance is a surprise when knowing her recently-obtained talent, many say that she is quite dependable and will be able to do great things with her knowledge, if it ever does wind up useful. The young lady notes that she’d like to be considered a dictyopterist soon as she is doing research on mantises in combination with her current studies. Compared to her humble views, others believe she could become a full-fledged entomologist if she ever wished to.

Looking further, one would see that Davies is a prominent figure in preserving biodiversity and keeping endangered species of flora and fauna safe, starting in her home of Seychelles and expanding to the rest of the world.

As well as coming from a high class family, being the daughter of the former Ultimate Etiquette Teacher Oliver Davies and noteworthy entrepreneur Jessie Davies, certainly she is on a path to greatness.

"But...I can't mind it. I try not to let those words affect my choices concerning this."

Personality

Wynn can easily be seen as a kind and sweet young lady. She always does her best to be respectful and patient with others and seems quite demure, a close enough image to refined young belles of years past. Offering assistance when she can, she simply wants to be a help to others and can even be noted as looking up to many people, no matter their history or current situation. She doesn’t talk much of her own talent or skills on her own, thinking they’re not that impressive or important in comparison to others. She seems to have trouble with things, causing her to nervously ask for help but also not wanting to be a bother. It can also be noted that she can show a decent amount of focus and determination on something, trying hard to even sometimes go past her limits if it means accomplishing something.

Yet, behind the guise of a well-mannered young woman, Wynn hides a rebellious heart that differs greatly from what one publicly sees. Her patience, thought to be great, is always being tested with how she acts, as she hates playing such a role and prefers to act more ‘free’. Should someone tick her off enough, they’ll quickly be met with a loud and hot-headed blattologist swearing up and down at them, though her use of such words may be incorrect at times. She tries her best to keep this away however, as she likes to stay on top of things and use her charm and outward friendliness to her advantage. She can be manipulative whenever she wishes, getting people to do things for her that she ‘messes up’ or ‘simply doesn’t understand’. As long as she gets what she wants, she doesn’t care if she has to trick people or have them get hurt to accomplish it. The only issue would be getting caught after all, and she doesn’t plan on having that happen. She’s a spoiled brat who sees herself as at the top and who cares for herself mainly, though she may share some concern for others depending on the relationship she has with them. She can also be grumpy and uncaring at certain negative situations and usually leaves before things get worse, wanting to save herself from any possible issues that arise.

Yet some good points still remain. The girl undoubtedly has an ambitious drive, working hard in what she does and even delving deeply into her work beyond what the average person would try to do. She’s active and dislikes the idea of staying still when something can be done, potentially providing some needed ooomph. This, combined with her deceptive nature and childhood teachings offering her an easy way to be charismatic around others, helps her do all that she does. She draws people in and does a good job easing hesitations and worries while also putting energy and passion forth without question. As well, she also seems to be fair with others if it means getting what she wants, not trying to reap the most benefits for herself if the initial deal sounds good. Her work has done some notable help in improving the situation regarding numerous species of plants and animals. These acts, she does take pride in, even if they haven’t directly helped with her main goal, and she wouldn’t exactly be averse to continuing them once said goal is completed.

History

The story of Wynn Davies does not begin with the girl herself, but rather with her father. Oliver Davies was the only son of the Davies family, a household that was already a part of the upper class. Having the best education one could afford and so much at his disposal to benefit him and his potential ventures, the boy would certainly achieve greatness some day, and anyone that knew of him was aware of that. Yet, they hadn’t expected him to do so well that he’d be scouted by Hope’s Peak Academy itself at the age of 16. Even less expected was the title he had obtained. Yet, with accomplishments such as tutoring businessmen and political figures, along with their children, and transforming rebellious classes of one of the country’s lowest-ranking schools into the finest and some of the most proper, it wasn’t difficult to believe that he had truly been crowned the Ultimate Etiquette Teacher.

Choosing to go ahead with attending the school, the name Oliver Davies, along with the Davies name itself, became more known across the globe. Each new job taken lended more profit to them and each new person educated helped increase in the population more of, what they believed to be, the proper way for humanity to act. In their eyes, the world had grown quite unruly after all. Disgustingly so. Thus, it was their duty to change that, especially if the world chose not to seek out or ask for the help it needed.

By the time he was 24, already a former Ultimate for some years now, he met Jessie Midgley. She was an entrepreneur, a client, and eventually Oliver’s girlfriend. There managed to be a spark between the two that didn’t go out, and after a year and a half, the two were married. This was partially fine to his parents, Jessie had a good amount of money and a smart mind after all, but they still would have been more content with having connections to another family that could benefit them, another circle of high class like them. The etiquette teacher was told this and, despite keeping it in his mind, continued to happily be with his wife.

The two of them soon had a son, George Davies, and raised him as well as they could. They wanted to provide the best that they could for their son, getting the best tutors, buying the best toys, and...well, love and affection from them was much tougher to give, seeing as the two both lead busy lives, but it wasn’t entirely absent from the kid’s life. Life went on like this for eight years before the family decided to move, not just to a new home in the same city or even country, but they instead moved to a different continent entirely. Seeing a good future and profitable potential from this, their next home was now in Victoria, Seychelles. It took time to adjust, of course, but as some months passed, things seemed to be going fine. And then there was a new arrival to the family: a little girl that would be named Wynn.

Just like her brother, Wynn was treated wonderfully by her parents as well. The best education they could offer, she was given. The most wonderful toys they could get, she would have. And little attention was a given as well, since her parents were busy trying to make their new lives here prosper. The most attention she got was from George and her tutors. Otherwise, she was left to her own devices. Whenever her parents did spend time with her, it was a bit of playing together and telling stories, but mostly discipline and extra lessons. There were some lessons on business and mini lessons on academics she was already being taught, but the main teachings were centered around what Oliver Davies was known for. They taught her how to behave properly, to be like a true lady and be above others when it came to ‘the proper way to act’. George had been subjected to similar lessons, though they were about acting like a proper gentleman instead. To young Wynn, this seemed normal, and as the years passed by, she slowly became a spoiled lady meant to be worthy of the Davies name.

And also during those years was more than just learning prim etiquette. Concerning the classes she was taught by tutors, she was a fine student, normally obtaining above-average grades most of the time. If she tried hard enough and put in the full effort, straight As were almost guaranteed. She didn’t have many negative opinions on the ones lecturing her; they were simply there to ensure she succeeded after all, and they did their job well. A couple of them she could find herself being more friendly with, her biology and chemistry instructors specifically, but it was all mainly a professional relationship in the end. She didn’t interact much with neighbors or other kids her age, thus not being too social with the outside world despite knowing about it well enough. Wherever she went, she kept up what her parents had taught her. Keep a gentle smile on your face, don’t invade others’ personal space, always have good posture and walk elegantly, etc… Yet, odd stares and glances were common for her to notice wherever she walked, from both children and adults. Whether it was because of her appearance, family and lifestyle, or some other reason, she wasn’t really able to connect well with others, only having a professional and disconnected interaction with them all.

The only person she could really enjoy being with was her older brother. Despite the nine-year age gap, the two were quite close. They spent their free time together discussing lessons, playing games with one another, and spending time exploring. George always had been more of the athletic type, also being supervised during exercise by a coach while Wynn had been given more domestic tasks to learn. This way, they could teach each other what they weren’t being shown and get along better as well. These times were something that she truly enjoyed, actually being able to be around someone and having fun, not having to go along with strict lessons or rely on her imagination alone.

Her brother told her of many things that seemed to contradict what their parents said. He took her on little outings to see nature and get close to the bugs, plants, and dirt around them. It was odd, but also a little fun, having her world opened up more with this. And whether it be with swearing, slouching, or some other ‘unruly action’, he also taught her how to act unlady-like, saying that having to be prim and proper members of society all the time wasn’t a good way to live. At least not for him. She knew well that George had too much of an adventurous spirit inside of him to stay put and just abidingly listen.

He told her stories and rumors, trying to share with her his wonder and excitement concerning the idea of undertaking quests to investigate the tales he heard. The floating treasure chest off the shore, the ghosts haunting the foot of Morne Seychellois, and the creatures present in so many fairy tales and myths.

Though their parents considered it all childish and barbaric to even think about, George was enamored with the idea of it all. Perhaps it was from his free and adventurous spirit, but he even believed that he could find one one day, if he tried hard enough. The fame and fortune he could get if it were accomplished didn’t really matter as much to him as the thrill of actually doing the supposed impossible did. Wynn...honestly wasn’t too sure about it all. Getting a lot of money and success from finding some undiscovered creature, architecture, or treasure sounded cooler in her opinion, but she couldn’t help but be excited like her brother about the idea. Discoveries and investigations were something she enjoyed now because of him.

One such discovery would begin leading her to the path she’d follow in the future. At the age of eleven, the girl was out exploring with her brother, having lied to their parents about deciding to go to the store to buy some things. The two made their way through sparse woods, talking and looking around for any pretty items that were lost there, when something caught Wynn’s eye. She followed after something she saw jumping across the grass and dirt, and then leaped towards it, hands ready to catch. The ground was painful, and the sound of her brother yelling to her entered her ears, but what was important was that she felt something scuttling inside her hands. She gestured to George to give her something to put whatever she caught into, and he gave her an empty bottle of water he had. The thing was dropped in and the two looked in wonder at the cockroach they had.

“...did you know they live out here?”

“Yup, they tend to roam about everywhere. Looks average though, except for the creepy legs. Still wanna keep it in there?”

"I do!"

And so they snuck back home, George having a small bag from a nearby grocer with him now to make the pair’s lie believable. In her room, Wynn attempted to learn more about the little friend she had found, trying to first figure out its species after giving it a more spacious ‘home’. She had narrowed it down to one species, Saltoblatella montistabularis or the leaproach, but certain oddities made her unsure. For one, this one had wings that it could actually use, and it seemed to combine jumping and some amounts of flying to help it move around better. Asking for her brother’s assistance and not getting a good answer, she decided to take it to an expert to learn more about it and figure out this conundrum. This resulted in her having her brother escort her to a nearby university and go see an expert in entomology who was teaching there. It was a confusing matter, and after dropping off the bug there once the talking was over, the two didn’t hear much about it...until a call arrived. They were being called to ask about where they had found the insect and, after dressing up in their finest and showing the researchers that had showed up the location, they were soon credited with finding a new species, to which George gave more of the credit to his little sister. Needless to say, Oliver and Jessie weren’t happy to hear this news, but the recognition they partially got managed to assuage their temper by a small amount. Saltoblatella montisillabor truly was a coincidental wonder. While wondering about where it could have come from with her brother, he jokingly remarked that it might have been from some magic nest and came out just to see her.

The months afterwards passed by calmly, though her brother wasn't spending as much time with her nowadays due to his job and taking far more initiative towards his adult responsibilities. Her parents were also still the same, now having a very good business set up and having a very good income for a while now. Life was a bit more dull for the girl, but this was fine. She could deal with it. That was, until her brother hadn't returned home for a few days. He usually would have returned at some point by now, and this strange behavior quickly had Wynn’s parents call authorities and report him missing. The girl couldn’t remember too much of it all at the time or even now. It had been incredibly confusing and she figured that George would eventually turn up anyways, so she tried to focus on her studies and lessons instead. Yet, in the days right after, no news showed up that could signal a positive end, and five days after it was reported, the family had to come face-to-face with the truth. George Davies had been found deceased. He had fallen to his death while trying to climb Table Mountain. This news had a definite effect on the three remaining Davies, and the atmosphere around the house grew much colder after the funeral. Wynn’s parents focused more on work than ever before, and Wynn herself kept her head in studying, trying to keep herself as distracted as she could from George no longer being around. Yet, nightmares entered her head whenever she slept, painting possible images of what his last moments were probably like. Sometimes she’d see him, hear him, and sometimes she’d be in his place, unable to stop the fate she knew would quickly come no matter what. She’d stop sleeping for nights at a time, before she inevitably forced herself to power through whatever dreams she might have at night.

As she progressed further and further into the type of woman she was taught to be, a rebellious nature was growing in her as well. She had no desire to stay a proper young girl and have her parents control the path she took, or rather her father. By now, her mother had become more passive as time went on. When she had free time, she went on more outings, exercising and building up her muscle and stamina. She needed to be stronger if she wanted to have a better time exploring.

She’d also further research the bugs she had grown fond of and that brought her any specific attention from the public: cockroaches. She’d collect more species in secret, study them, and write papers on her studies, posting these and her miniature studies and experiments online to be viewed by the world. This expanded to termites as well, first beginning when she noticed an infestation of them inside an abandoned house on the outskirts of Victoria. Her papers covered a variety of topics, such as phylogeny and eusociality, but most of them were based around the insects’ behavioral patterns. At first, they were written under the pen name Aussa Koenig before she eventually went ahead with her real name. As long as her parents didn’t seem to notice, it was all fine.

Subconsciously, her brother’s ideals were living in her mind, just with different aspirations and end goals. While he had simply been a fan of the thrill and fun, she was looking at the end goal, using whatever means necessary to get the success and riches she wanted, the results of growing up spoiled and being given what she liked, and yet still wanting more. She’d use her good manners and charm to her advantage, she’d use her determination to progress, and she’d use the money she had to buy whatever she needed. Such was her way of getting ahead and obtaining her dreams.

Around the time her seventeenth birthday arrived and passed, Wynn noticed her father bringing a young man around the house more and more often, forcing her to spend time with him so that they could know each other better. The teen acted in the way she was always taught to, despite being uncertain about what all of this was for. But after questioning Oliver about this and not listening to his requests to cease, he finally informed her that the man was to be her husband as soon as she was eighteen, or at least a few weeks after. Her surprise fiance was Cervantes Amarante, a person of high class, and would assist the family with rising higher should the arranged marriage go through. All the planning had been done and things were pretty much set. Wynn was meant to be informed in a matter of weeks but the announcement happened sooner than was hoped for.

Hearing this, the bug girl was surprised. Her, to be married to some man in his 20s...just for her family’s wealth to keep going up and for them to be better and better… Even if such a thing was useful to her too, the idea of not having her own say in the matter and the high probability of winding up a mere housewife didn’t sit right with her. She lashed out finally, ridding herself of the proper guise she was meant to have and stating everything she felt right to her father’s face. An argument soon erupted, with Oliver saying that this was the only way Wynn would truly be of help to the family, and with Wynn saying that she could do far better with her own work. And finally, she let out what seemed like an absurd suggestion.

“I’ll get us wealth! Watch! I-I’ll find some stinking treasure! Or finding! Or whatever! Cave, lost city, hill temple, dicking wherever! I’ll find one of them, and all the treasure it’s got! I’ll find so much that we’ll practically be drowning in that shit! How about that?”

Hearing something so preposterous, the arguing only escalated until her father finally gave her a chance. If she was able to find any sort of ‘secret treasure’ before her wedding day and bring them some fortune from it, the deal would be off. Yet if she didn’t, she’d have to go along with the premade plans, whether she liked it or not. He doubted such a thing would be possible and knew that he’d be the winner of this, but Wynn had confidence in her chance to find something, anything, even with how some had disappeared before while making similar treks. She agreed to the deal, and, after being reprimanded about her behavior and lack of manners just then, she hurried to her room, ready to undertake this new mission of hers.

The following weeks were spent studying recent discoveries in botany, zoology, and biology, trying to see if there were any connections overtime that could lead to a hint or clue towards any fabled treasure’s location. She also spent more time researching her bugs of choice, trying to expand towards including mantises and beetles to her studies as well. Insects contained the largest number of species compared to all other groups of organisms. There was no doubt in her mind that something new about them could be remarkably discovered in a place full of biodiversity.

Along with this biodiversity, she also did her best to keep the varied biodiversity that already existed from disappearing from the world. She had done small parts of supporting the endangered animals of her country, but once this goal came in mind, her efforts more than tripled. She could be found going out and being on television and newspapers advocating for the environment and keeping it and its residents safe. She would host events to get the public involved and even managed to travel around the world a few times while spreading her messages and hopes while also conducting more events. She hoped something valuable would come out of it.

During this time, she also was made to have more meetings with her fiancé and with her family, which included lessons and such that would help her with the expectations and responsibilities she’d have involving and after the marriage. While she hid her true thoughts and kept up her facade while around Cervantes, it was more difficult to do so with her father. The disdain would be far more obvious and minor arguments would happen here and there. All the interactions she was forced to have further fueled her determination.

Eventually, a letter soon arrived at her door. A letter from Hope’s Peak Academy, indicating that she was invited under the title of Ultimate...Blattologist. Fitting. Perhaps it’d be easier to get to her goal if she accepted. She could excel… With only a bit of thinking to do, she happily took the offer.

Soon after Wynn started attending the renowned school, she began trying to find out more about her peers in that particular branch and make connections, this time with those of similar skill level to her and beyond, even if they were all in varied fields. While she was able to make more connections with other HPA branch students, get more resources to research species and attain more chances to travel around the world for explorations, no actual results managed to pop up yet, frustrating the lady.

And then there came the lottery and news that her name was one of the ones pulled. While initially she had no interest in it, thinking it would waste her time in her quest, that quickly changed when she recalled the location. Ruins of Aeon… The spot was one of the ones on her list actually, and if it could be of some use… Maybe this could end up a good thing after all.

Relationships

Wynn’s father and the former Ultimate Etiquette Teacher. He makes sure to have his children act like proper individuals in comparison to the unruly one around them and all across the globe. He wants Wynn to go along with a marriage that he arranged for her and expects to win the deal they had settled on regarding it.

Wynn’s mother and an entrepreneur. She went along with Oliver’s choice of how and what their children should be taught, then eventually became more passive later down the line.

Wynn’s older brother by nine years. He had a sense of adventure and disregard for sticking to manners and etiquette that Wynn eventually obtained as well. He died at the age of 21 when he fell while mountain climbing.

Wynn’s fiancé and a high-class heir to a luxury goods conglomerate. From the times she’s had to meet with him both before and after her finding out about the marriage, she harbors a disliking towards him despite his gentlemanly manners and niceness towards her.
Knew it, see, I win again; That will never change!
