Resse as a child was timid, quiet and shy, when it comes to talking with people outside of those superior. Teachers, Parents, and even other adults alike grew interested to her through the quality of respect and intelligence she showcased throughout her childhood. In fact, she was the smartest one in her elementary class, though she didn’t take compliments well. She takes studying into heart, mostly out of habit and less out of dream, for she didn't truly think about where she'd like to be after finishing school. Realizing her uncertainty was what we call fate, and it changed her perspective of life forever.

It was 10:59PM, September 23rd, 2000, when the roof of the childhood home Resse had lived in lit aflame from the ground up. Smoke and flames were surrounding the quiet girl, who stared aimlessly into what she thought was a fiery void. Her voice was faint from the sounds of the flickering flames, as she called out for her mother, for her father. It wasn’t too long before she made it to her parents' bedroom door, and slowly opened it. Her parents were inside, yet only one of them was moving. The father was on the floor, his left arm burnt to a crisp, but it looked like he had perished due to asphyxiation. Resse’s mother was trying to shake him up, shaking the body left and right with no response in return. The sound of her daughter's voice turned her around, who was standing there, confused, scared, innocent. The mother rushed to her and grabbed her, sobbing globs of tears as she rushed into the hallway. The floorboards were collapsing under, and soon she only had time to throw her to what she presumed to be safety, before she succumbed to the wood and fire beneath her.

The girl was found outside, unconscious as the fire seized the bottom of the house, and the couple of other homes surrounding it. A man in a burly coat found her like that, before wrapping her in his coat and taking her away from the danger. He..knew her parents weren’t coming out. It was best to take her to the hospital as soon as possible. After the incident, Resse was raised within the headquarters of the “ Crimes Defined “ Agency. The girl asked him if her parents were okay, and to keep her innocents, Mr. Hicks promised her to tell her the full story of her parents' "disappearance" when she turned 18. Her lack of persistence at this age caused her to let the promise be established, before falling exhausted for the remainder of the night.

Despite the loss of her parents, she grew re-accustomed to studying, reading the various case files within their accordant storage room, even those the man soon told her was unsafe for her to read. Years go by, and something seems to have changed in the girl. She became more open to talk to people, volunteering to help with debriefings and cases, even, once again those that were too serious for someone of her age. That was when she was enrolled in the University of United Beliefs at the age of 15, and faced events that changed her life forever.

Backstory Events:

  • The Burning Incident ( August 7th, 2000 )
    • As soon as Resse started college at 13 years old, there was anticipation burning inside of her, yet not just in a figurative sense. During the third week of her freshman year at the University of United Beliefs, during the field trip her biology class took to the Science Ward of Oddities within the Liberty Science Center, Resse faced an unfortunate incident with the meteor of Y2K that the class was observing. Five minutes into the lecture about Y2K, Resse’s eyes began to burn from the inside, a pain unbearable and an incident so brutal she had to be rushed to urgent care. She was unable to open her eyes, for her own fear that the lights above her would make the burning worse than it already was. And she was stuck seeing only darkness for six whole months.
    • It could be clarified that she was blinded, yet she kept her eyes closed on purpose, blinding herself from a burn worse than fire. After those six exhausting months had passed, Resse had opened her eyes to the nurse that served her breakfast that morning. The nurse immediately realized that the usual, common black iris that the humans usually have had changed drastically to a near blinding white, shaped into a sort of symbolic presence of the iota centauri star.
    • Her father figure who worked at “ A Strange Look “ Agency was called to investigate the matter, however this was nothing neither anyone or his agency had seen before. That was when Resse’s sudden change in her usual dialogue and the sudden peek into the nurse’s memories that stumbled everyone, the case of the burning eye girl never truly being solved. It is also unfortunate that even Resse herself does not remember how she was before, and what exactly caused the sudden change in her iris and academic appearance.
  • - The President and the Faux ( March 8th, 2002 )
    • Almost every school had their own scandal. One that ranges from consistent threats of violence, to disturbing revelations of beloved staff from teachers to principals. The University of United Beliefs may believe to have a scandal, yet it was less of that and more of an event that immortalized the school's value system forever.
    • The Case of the President and the Faux focused on a student alumni's threat against the President of the University of United Beliefs. A threat of “dethroning” and “murdering” the president has put the entirety of the city in a terrified state. When Resse returned to the University, she had this strange dedication to investigate the threat and help the police officers of her campus interrogate potential suspects in between school and life. This case lasted around 2 weeks, when the true convict and perpetrator showed their true colors in the form of keeping the president hostage.
    • Resse was the one who took the initiative to negotiate with the hostage within his office. At first, they were not letting up, and threatened her to choose either the president's life, or her own. This lack of decision lasted three solid minutes until Resse suddenly detailed the culprit's past, without being specifically told who the person was. The culprit attempted to deflect said statement, denying that she knew the truth until they sobbed onto the floor, overwhelmed by the verbal hostile nature of Resse.
Backstory ( Age 16 - Present ( Age 21 )

The case of the President and the Faux had came to an end, and Resse was thanked for her valor and deduction by the President of the University himself. It was from then on that school life became, somewhat normal to her. She became to be known as Ms. Harris from time to time, due to her intellectual language seeming older than she actually was. Some say she talks like a thirty year old professor when in reality, she is simply a smart woman at the age of 16 and on. She came to graduate from the University of United Beliefs at the age of 19, majoring in Law and Sociology. After her graduation, she was immediately hired by her father figure, Joseph Hicks, to work as a head detective of the recently renamed "A Strange Look" Detective Agency: The Agency Investigating the Natural, Unnatural, and Supernatural. Throughout her years as a detective, her reputation grew. Through collaborations with other agencies, along with establishing relationships with the police force, the commissioner, and even the mayor of the state of New York herself.

At the age of 18, Joseph Hicks spoke the truth of the death of Resse's parents to her, in which she accepted with minimal emotional reaction. She took the deaths of that night as the death of the family, a sort of rebirth that encompassed her body to carry on through life. Mr. Hicks was surprised at this, yet questioned her reaction no further, thinking that this reaction could be the effects of the Burning Incident she went through three years prior. In fact, she could not remember her parents after the incident happened, which made the manner even stranger to let go of.

At the age of 21, Ms. Harris participated in the Case of the Dawnwick Puritan, where Alfred Dawnwick was found dead in the middle of the woods next to another body burned at the stake. There were several concerns and questions about the sanity of the Dawnwick Family, including the moment when the two young children( 12 and 14 ) of the Dawnwicks became missing three days prior to Alfred's demise. The Dawnwicks were known to be raised throughout many generations as Puritans who strictly hunts down and burns "witches" at the stake.  Of course, they modernized themselves to the point of following the law, and volunteered for executions of those who were given Death Sentences for their crimes involving mass murder, sexual based kidnapping, and other heinous crimes to the naked eye.

Ms. Harris was given a note from who she remembered as Adelina Dawnwick, the widowed wife of Alfred Dawnwick to meet her at the mansion the same night, specifically when the clock striked midnight of the next day. Realizing the note detailed the importance of the case, Ms. Harris silently agreed to attend, leaving one of the more familiar employees of A Strange Look to finish the closing hours of the agency before attending.

Ms. Harris is a patient individual, a very patient individual, and when she is forced to enter without the consent of the individual who she cared about, something is bound to go wrong. For Adelina did not answer the door when the clock striked midnight, when Resse knocked on the door just at the right moment. So, Resse had no choice but to find a way inside, discovering a shattered window 2 times her size. The trail of broken glass and dried blood led her to the unwanted, distraught causing discovery of the mutilated body of Adelina Dawnwick, who was killed a singular hour before her arrival.

And it was then on, her strange life continues...
