Lucien works at a very high-end clothing and fabric shop in the capital. It's a bit of a hole in the wall sort of place, but is renown for its excellent, quality fabrics and beautiful clothing. It's the sort of place that will tailor the clothes to fit you before leave the store with your purchase -- no way can they allow someone to walk out their store with ill-fitting garments!
He is the lead assistant for the shop; an up-and-comer tailor who aspires to own his own line sought after enough that even the nobles and high society socialites wear and brag about.
Personality-wise, Lucien is a bit of an asshole, if we're to be honest. He's pretentious and views himself in high regard. He's vain, stuck-up, and judgmental of others--especially when it comes to appearances. Lucien hides behind snide remarks and sarcasm. If you can get past the biting exterior, though, he's really not all bad.
He treats his job with the utmost respect and seriousness, and is exceptionally polite and professional with customers (in front of them, at least) as long as they don't go making a fuss or wrecking his store. He can still come off a bit cold, but it helps give him an air of 'knowing' command that makes him good at his job. Lucien has a good sense of dry humor (even if it's more often than not at the expense of others, usually it's not /that/ harmful). If one manages it, he can be very loyal to those who gain his respect, and despite his attitude he has strong moral values of right and wrong beneath it all. He's fiercely protective and proud, and isn't afraid to tell off anyone who he thinks deserves it.
The trick with Lucien, I s'pose, is ignoring all the surface snark and snide. He's good at heart and will give the world to those who earn his respect--it's just burried under a lot of shitty self-importance, high standards, and rudeness. So, okay, maybe you have to squint a little to see it, but it's there, I swear!
It probably takes someone who can give as good as they get, and/or maybe has patience of a saint to properly put up with. Lucien is not the friend for the weak of will.
Some notes/tidbits about his character (mostly for myself, not necessarily important):
Currently, he's working on developing extravagant sleeping garments that will help regulate the wearer's sleep, using his dust. It's still a work in progress, but has been showing great results so far.
Lucien, as self-important as he is, can also be a bit dramatic about it. He will spin tales about how, in a few years, he will be the most sought-after designer in all of the capital, nay the country! He will be rolling in riches and invited to all the parties and balls -- where everyone will wear his clothing! They will all brag to each other about their newest piece, and then gossip about how attractive and desirable he is! Ah yes, it'll happen! Just you give it a few years. To which, he will receive many eyerolls and 'yeah, yeah's. (And Lucien will scoff back, because just they wait!)
I'm still a bit torn about what the shop keeper/owner will be like. I'm leaning more towards an older, more mature lady who Lucien constantly bickers with. Like an older sister, or sorta-mother type. Lucien probably showed up one day /demanding/ she take him in as an apprentice, and when he showed talent, she agreed.
