As a little child living in poverty in Sword Coast, Kujo often dreamed of being ridiculously rich, but as the youngest child of a penniless shoemaker with four mouths to feed his dream didn't seem attainable, at least not with honest means. As Kujo as his family struggled everyday to make a living, young Kujo made a promise to himself: he would become rich, no matter what.  Kujo had only barely reached adulthood when his hard-working father passed away and all four of his children were forced to make their own luck in the world.  After waving his siblings goodbye Kujo soon found himself in notorious company, ready to start his quest for wealth.

Adulthood

Shortly after leaving his childhood home behind, Kujo joined a group of highwaymen calling themselves the Wildlings and spent the next almost ten years ambushing travelers, robbing coaches and enjoying the perks of stolen wealth. It was a hard life, full of risky endeavours and dangerous situations, but Kujo always trusted his luck. The Wildlings once happened to rob a group of traveling thespians and decided to steal some of their theatrical masks for the fun of it, including the hare mask that Kujo wears to this day as a reminder of his rowdier days. The masks soon became the group's trademark and as their infamy grew, so did the hoard of gold lining Kujo's pockets.  (As well as his ever growing love for strong alcoholic beverages.)

After many years of criminal success, Kujo's luck finally ran out one moonless night. He and other two Wildlings were on their way to rob a nobleman's house when they were spotted and were forced to flee the premises. Two of them managed to run away but Kujo's escape came to a painful halt when a guard dog twice his size managed to sink its teeth into his thigh, leaving him lying on the ground and begging for mercy. The nobleman didn't want to be held responsible for his death, so he took the bleeding bandit to the local monastery where the monks tended to his injuries. As soon as Kujo was healthy enough to stand again the nobleman returned with the city guards in order to bring Kujo to justice, but the monks suggested another solution: instead of being thrown in jail, Kujo would stay in the monastery so the monks could help him become a better person. Out of respect of the monks the nobleman agreed, and Kujo's road to redemption had begun.

Kujo's first year in the confinement of the monastery was not an easy one and the monks had to deal with a lof of his frustration during the first twelve months of atonement. For a long time Kujo despised the quiet life of a monk and often lashed out in anger, declaring he would rather be rotting in a dungeon. Eventually, however, Kujo managed to let go of his past self and stopped brushing the monk's teachings off as soft-hearted nonsense. As Kujo began to make peace with himself and the world the monks trusted him enough to let him occasionally leave the monastery grounds to run errands. Initially he had planned to use the opportunity to escape and return to his thieving life, but when he was finally allowed outside he no longer wanted to do so. The outlaw that had entered the monastery that night was no more.

Latest Years

Years passed and while Kujo was happy - ecstatic, even - with his reborn self and his new harmonious life and no longer dreamed of being rich, he started to feel restless. Despite the peace and happiness he had found in the monastery he felt like he could no longer remain inside its walls. As much as it pained his heart to leave and the monks' hearts to see him go, it was clear that his destiny lied elsewhere.  So he bid farewell to his fellow monks and his beloved teacher and set out into the world in hopes of finding whatever it was that he was looking for, sporting the same mask he had worn in his past life and hoping it would inspire him to do whatever it would take to repay his debt to the world and restore balance to his soul.
