No one really knows if the Einar is a unique mythical creature, the last member of a near-extinct species, or just one of the many members of an extremely reclusive species. Many artistic interpretations of similar looking creatures exist across history. There is some variation to how they are drawn, whether it is a different "mask" pattern or other subtle differences (including different "accessories," such as the earrings or straw-like "cloak" on their backs). This may imply that they are a species with different phenotypes among them or that the mask-like face is truly a mask they can take on or off (if so, there is no confirmed sighting of an Einar without a mask).

They seem to be associated with themes of autumn, harvest, change, and hibernation.

Interestingly, some of these interpretations of the Einar have a completely different color palette than the established muted palette of blue-greys, greens, reds, and yellows. Some historic records mentioning the Einar (whether as a species or an individual creature) have said that it can often take on an uncharacteristically bright palette, corroborating the existence of this unusual bright color palette. The advantage of such a palette is unknown, but they seem to be considered rare and a lucky sighting.

If the Einar are a species, there is no confirmed population anywhere in the world, only mere sightings of individuals. Due to their extremely rare sightings, no one is sure of the Einar's behavioural patterns. Though it may be tempting to say that they are flighty and timid, that may only be their behaviour when being observed. Some claim them to be curious and capable of tool making and tool use, but none of these are confirmed by evidence.
