Always welcome! Thought obviously nothing disrespectful re: he's ace. May not be shipped with other characters unless it's something we've planned together!

Appearance
Coprosma is a small, relatively stout avus, though his long neck and tail lend him a rather gangly appearance despite his compact body. Their gently curved beak is as long and dark as their featherless neck. His feathers are for the most part entirely white, with the exception of the black tips to his primaries, and his wings are long and broad. His fur is thick and plush, but often sticks out in odd places of it’s own accord. A dark stripe runs from his black tail all the way up between his shoulders, and bar his white arms, his pelt is a warm grey that fades to buff on his underparts. Around his neck is a ruff of long, shaggy white feathers he has to keep covered during his work in the kitchen, lest he stain them. His golden eyes are warm and welcoming and his face is almost always set in a smile, which coupled with his talkative nature and loose, laid back movements, makes him a very easy avus to approach.

BACKSTORY

Nestling-Fledgeling
Born in Crescent Bay to a pair of well respected fishers, Coprosma had an easy start to life. His family wasn’t rich, but they could always make ends meet. As soon as he left the pouch, Coprosma frequently accompanied his parents on their fishing trips. While they would occasionally leave him with the town carers, the fledgeling required a lot of attention and often grew bored and restless without the distraction of a particularly interesting carer or playmate. Taking him fishing, while a rather dull job on the surface, allowed his parents to teach their curious chick all they knew about fishing, which sated his boundless curiosity.

Sub-Adult
Coprosma was quick to prove he was an excellent student. He was polite, friendly, and picked up most subjects with ease. One day during a foraging lesson, the class stumbled upon a small band of humans hunting boar. While the skittish apes scattered as soon as they caught wind of the watching avus, the teacher was quick to give a brief explanation of them. Everyone had heard of humans, but Coprosma was fascinated to hear more about them, having noted that the creatures seemed to be working together much like a pack of wild dogs. From that moment he was hooked.
While he still excelled at his schooling, Coprosma was far more interested in pursuing studies on humans than any other subject. Unfortunately for him, studying the creatures of the land wasn’t much of a priority in the war bar figuring out what you could eat and what made good pelts, so all he could find was brief descriptions of them amongst the other animals. Undeterred, he would always venture the furthest from the class when scavenging in the hopes of catching glimpses of the illusive creatures. He quickly roped his closest friends, two twin harpies, Carpobrotus and Telopea, into his antics, and the larger avus would accompany him on his adventures into the jungle outside of school, for fun and also to protect the smaller avus.
His teachers, on the other hand, spotted his intelligence and tried to nurture it in other directions, giving him extra assignments on farming, construction, hunting, anything in the hopes of sparking his interests in a more useful area of society. It didn’t work. Coprosma completed his assignments, but he grew to detest the subjects, as the extra workload forced him to dedicate his free time to subjects he deemed dull. He passed school with flying colours, but with a marked distaste for any further study.

Adult
Now graduated, and entering the workforce during a time of unprecedented peace, Coprosma had the world at his fingertips. With his excellent school record, he could secure just about any role in the kingdom he wanted. Except he didn’t want any of them. Exhausted by the strenuous but uninteresting assignments his teachers had thrown at him, he wanted anything but a high-profile job that wasted all his energy on things he couldn’t care less about.
He drifted, using his new surplus of free time to pursue his interest in humans, discovering some of their trails through the jungle and spending the majority of his time there, jotting down every detail of their behaviour. Carpobrotus and Telopea obviously stuck with him, though their apprenticeships elsewhere didn’t lend them as much time as him.
After half a year, his parents began to express concern for his career. He’d had enough of a break, surely he’d decided what he wanted to do by now. He hadn’t, but to escape the badgering of his parents, he took a job as an assistant in the royal kitchen. After quick spiel to his old teachers about how dedicated to cooking he had become, how he wanted to climb the ranks to head cook and bring a new era of food to the kingdom, and his former educators gave glowing reviews of his performance to the entire kitchen. He was moved out to the capitol and apprenticed under the head cook in a week. While he certainly did well enough at the job, picking things up in a matter of days, the truth was he’d chosen it because washing dishes and preparing ingredients for the cooks left his mind free to think on his findings, and it was one of the more well-paid entry positions in the kingdom.
A few months in and the head cook sat him down. The ruse was up. It was clear his heart wasn’t really in the job. For a few seconds, he thought his employment was done for, but the kindly cook just shrugged and said he was welcome to stay on as an assistant. She didn’t care if he wanted to climb the ranks so long as he did his job well and stopped wasting her time accepting tutoring he clearly didn’t want. And so life continued. He spent most of his days working, and the rest of his free time studying humans.
For the next couple of years, he bided his time, saving money in the hopes of one day founding his own research facility. It was frustrating, but he could do it.
